The sight-seeing bus the other day talked about property value in Cape Town being based on view and wind. We passed proof of wind: trees growing on extreme angles. But it was such a beautiful hot sunny day, it was difficult to imagine. Yesterday however, the wind was out and it was intense! It really whips. The South-Easter wind is also called “The Doctor” because when it comes, it clears everything out and brings along good weather. Very very rarely however, a Black South-Easter comes along and with it comes black skies and storms. A Black South-Easter is here. Today it is pouring rain, very windy and COLD! Today is also when I’d booked my Cape Peninsula Bike Tour. Not a good day for biking. None of us on the tour wanted to bike, so we ... read more

Today was a beautiful day in Cape town. We are woken by the sun pitching in our room each morning which make such a nice change from home. Today we rose late and had a massive breakfast in town before collecting our hire car. By 11.30am we were on teh road to Hout Bay. Beautiful beach. Unfortunately Chapmans pass was shut so we has a massive detour back to cape town virtually and then got lost in the Silvermines national park. Eventually we made it to our destination of Cape point national park. It was awesome. The lighthouse was a little crowded for my liking but once we found the small paths round the cliff it became much more enjoyable. After spending a good few hours whale watching we headed for Boudlers beach and the famous ... read more

So after getting some much needed sleep - I seem to have sleep problems when traveling east - Jen and I woke up early for our big adventure day! (note to all...I've had three beers and am currently drinking a glass of wine...this blog might turn out to be the best ever) Today (Monday) was the adventure day to Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. I was really excited about this. Probably more excited than anything else we planned to do. The mini bus picked us up at 8:45 am. We went with a group called Day Trippers and were with a great group of people from around the globe. Two girls from Ireland, one girl from Australia, a girl from Belgium with her man from France but they now both lived ... read more

9/14/08-9/15/08 I love bargain shopping. This is why Court and I were ready to wheel and deal at the Green Point Market, which is held each Sunday across the street from our guest house. Philip told us to haggle-- in fact, he told us to halve their asking price, then halve it again as a place to start, but that seemed extreme (we're new at this...) As we walked around the market, we got better at it, buying all sorts of gifts and mementos. In fact, we got so good at it that after a few hours of browsing and bargaining, we ran out of cash completely, even after avoiding the overly aggressive vendors! That night we ate at a grill where Court had warthog ribs and I had an ostrich fillet, and we both shared ... read more

Today we visited False Bay College which is and FET (Further Education and Training) College. FET Colleges were established to provide students with practical skills and training to prepare for the world of work. One program offered by the college is hospitality training which we witnessed first hand as we enjoyed a wonderful lunch prepared and served by the students as part of their program. In the afternoon we toured the coast. Our stops included a visit to the penguins who were so cute and memorizing we could have watched them all day. We then visited Cape Point which is where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. Given our time constraints, only a few of us made the mad dash to the top. We literally ran to the top in 10 minutes! But, the view was ... read more

I went on the Cape Point Peninsula tour today. What an amazing day, the weather ended up being beautiful and met some really nice people on the tour. The tour consisted of a drive down the peninsula from Cape Town to Cape Point where the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet. Very scenic, convaluted drive. We stopped in Hout Bay where we got on a boat to Duiker Island - a seal colony. I'm not sure what impressed me more - the seals or the 7 meter swells our boat ended up surfing!! The next stop was to Simon's Town to watch the African penguins run around. Simon's Town is quite a beautiful place, lots of big beautiful houses on the beach. Just recently, (in the past 10 years I think) penguins started roosting on the beach ... read more

My last trip as cabin crew was a favourite of mine!!!! We had very little time but still managed to see some amazing things! We went on a tour to Cape Point (the most Southernly part of Sout Africa) and on the way we went on a little boat ride to a little island called Seal Island. The rock island is covered in hundreds of Seals!!!! It was amazing to see!! On the way to Cape Point we passed through very wealthy areas of Cape Town with stunning views and houses! Its winter in Africa but the weather was perfect! We also went through a town called Llandudno where Elton, Madonna and Simon Le Bon own houses, though it was funny as my Mum was born near there but the Welsh Llandudno!!!! Not so exotic although ... read more
