Today was yet another beautiful day (as was yesterday). However, I will start from yesterday (as it was pretty uneventful). We went down to the waterfront early in the morning on Wednesday (2 May) to buy tickets to Robben Island, but they were all sold out for the day...so we bought tickets for Friday the 4th of May. The rest of yesterday was pretty chilled out. We walked over to Long Street (basically backpacker central, and lots of clubs, bars, restaurants, and craft markets). We did the rest of our shopping there for friends and family (yes, friends and family, you are getting presents). In the evening time, we called our friend Bar, whom we met in Oudtshoorn a few days ealier (I think he is of Indian descent), for dinner on the waterfront. He is ... read more

21st Today we travelled to Cape point after picking up our hire car. Cape point is the bit we all learnt about at school. To the right of the first picture you can kind of see swirls in the water - this was where a ship wreck is under the water (i think!). It was well known for sail ships to be deliberately crashed/ran aground so that the ship owners could claim on insurance when sail boats went out of fashion. Stayed for lunch (a BLT for Paulie and a quiche for T), then zoomed off to Swellingham. Was pleased to get out of the big city. The big cities are a bit scarey, but all the little places in between are really nice. Swellingham was a lovely little town where we stayed at a ... read more

Thursday 22st March Woke up early again to have a good breakfast. Bacon, eggs, toast, and fresh fruit. The fruit is so tasty in South Africa. The only bad news is the weather! Its cold and rainy outside and we’re picking the Harley Davidson up in 1 hour. Walking down Kloof Nek Road is about a 40 minute walk, did we get drenched! Typical it was 80 degrees yesterday. Must press on as we can’t delay hiring it. After initial wet ride up to Table Mountain, through the clouds, we headed inland on the N3 to the Constantia Wine region where we visited and had an hours wine tasting at the oldest Wine Farm Estate on the cape (founded 1685) called Groot Constantia. Here we fell in love with some art which we subsequently bought ... read more

Today was a free for everyone to explore Cape Town and the surrounding area. Peter, John, Dave, Otto and I followed the coast to Cape Point, back into wine country Stellenbosch and lunched near Franschhoek (Allee Bleu). We then rode back to Cape Town to meet our guide Frank. Baboons are pests here. They’re often chased away out of inhabited areas and are not afraid of people. At one point during the ride I almost hit a baby baboon who darted across the road from its troop. I didn’t want to slow down too much and end up being swarmed by the rest of the troop. South Africans are pragmatic about road rules. Any part of the road can be used for passing. The shoulders are often paved are as wide as a full lane. Most ... read more

Wednesday and Thursday Two days of Beach and Exploration. Found a really great beach Sandy Bay its about 15 Km south of Cape Town. The beach has beautiful sands and backdrop, easy access to the not so warm Atlantic waters. Gets a bit windy in the afternoon so that’s when we move to the rocks or go off and explore. Yesterday afternoon we set on an expedition initially in search of Penguins ! We had to postpone our visit with the penguins as it was too busy and they were not receiving visitors. We set of South and eventually got to Cape Point and The Cape of Good Hope the most South Westerly point of the bottom of Africa This (we think) is where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Indian Ocean. Went to the top of ... read more

We drove out to Cape Point this day. Wow! It was absolutely amazing to be standing at the Cape of Good Hope! It was still sunny and warm so it was a perfect day! That afternoon, we went to the Victoria and Alfred waterfront mall. We did some shopping and I also bought some CDs of some great music that we had heard down there that we had not heard back home. One was an older Kylie Minogue and the other was Lena Fiagbe. Good stuff! We had a great seafood meal at the mall and then explored the area some more. This was the last night here, so we made it a good one. Stayed out drinking a little bit.... read more
