Today was a free for everyone to explore Cape Town and the surrounding area. Peter, John, Dave, Otto and I followed the coast to Cape Point, back into wine country Stellenbosch and lunched near Franschhoek (Allee Bleu). We then rode back to Cape Town to meet our guide Frank.
Baboons are pests here. They’re often chased away out of inhabited areas and are not afraid of people. At one point during the ride I almost hit a baby baboon who darted across the road from its troop. I didn’t want to slow down too much and end up being swarmed by the rest of the troop.
South Africans are pragmatic about road rules. Any part of the road can be used for passing. The shoulders are often paved are as wide as a full lane. Most drivers are courteous and pull over onto the shoulder to allow faster traffic to pass. Speeding is primarily enforced with radar cameras. I haven’t been pulled over for traveling to quickly yet.
We stop for coffee in Simon’s Town where one of the friendly waitresses handed Otto a CD of her music. I have to remember to ask Otto for a copy of the CD.
