Was a great trip, here is what we did. We had the option of doing a trip with the company we are staying with to the Kruger Park but we felt that we would like to spend more than a day in the Kruger. So with the help of on of the people who run the course-Tisha, we arranged a 3 day trip to the Kruger for 3 of us. Tisha arranged the rental of a car for us and accomodation at some friends of hers in Whiteriver, we did want to stay in the Kruger but all the camps where fully booked. There was one girl Tee with us who can't drive and then Susanne and I. I drove on the roads outside of the park and in the park and Susanne only drove in ... read more

Hiking down the Manoutsa Mountain Today was gonna be one for them days that would blow my head away with the sights and sounds of the south African country side, and it did in more ways than one. After about an hours drive towards the mountain range the scale of the mountains was incredible, the size, colours of the rocks and the greenery of the trees will remain with me forever. It was a complete contrast to the African bush that has been home for the past week. First stop was at a road side cafe were we stopped for refreshments and for the owner of the cafe to drive us to the stop point. He then dropped us all off and then drove the jeep to the pick up point. Just before we started ... read more

Slept in my bed the first night, second night was in the bush ( no pun intended) third night was on the look out tower, forth was in my bed, fifth was in town after a night out, sixth was on the look out tower. So much was happened in the past week i'm starting to find it hard to remember what days i've done what. Had a great night in town on friday evening. went for a meal in the Sleepers Restuarant in town and had Ostrich kababs and were very nice. Then a group of us then went to an opening of a new cocoktail bar in the town and were entertained by a great new singer who is very big in south Africa. Then of to the local ... read more

Hey there, Been so busy that it has been really diffcult to keep up to this, so here is a run down of what I've been up to for the past 3 weeks (time just seems to be flying by!). So lets begin with my first week. We spent a lot of the 1st week around camp, we get up in the morning and then about 7.30 - 8am we go out and do some work, anything from digging sand and collecting rocks for the roads and lying out twigs to stop erosion, make the animals us a seperate route. Then after the work we have breakfast and then a lecture about animals or conservation related, really interesting. Then it's lunch and then around 3pm before it gets dark we go for a drive through the ... read more

Day 2 Bit of a chill out today after a goodnights sleep. Still up early then a lecture about Survial in the bush. I now no that you can survive for 4 minutes without air,4 days without water and get this 32 to 44 days without food (great diet plan girls, not) also how to navigate by self if lost by finding North etc. After dinner we then went deep into the bush and joined the experienced guys that have been out here for between 2 weeks to 2 months for a night out sleeping in the bush under the stars. They had set up camp with 4 fires anon the outside and we had sleeping bags in the middle, this is so the Lions, Hyenas, Elephants and Jackels went come into camp because they wont ... read more

After leaving Heathrow T5 it was a 10.5 hour flight with British Airways to Jo'berg. During the flight i managed to watch "The Bucket List" starring Jack Nicholson & Morgan Freeman. All about what two guys do once they have been told they have 6 months to live. They then write a list of thing they need to do before they kick the Bucket. During many of there adventure they visit Kruger Park and go Sky Diving, both things that are planned on my travels. Arrive into Jo'berg a 6.50am then a domestic flight on a 50 seater twin propelled plan onto Heodspruit about 50 minutes away. I arrived in what i can only describe as one on the most beautiful airport around. Met with Bree one of the staff and we then had a quick ... read more

From Matt- Last night we went on a quest for the leopard. (not a jaguar as we said in the last blog) We just passed by all the other critters we had seen before. We found tracks of a mating pair and there were several trackers going through the bush helping. The mating pair were being very discreet! Close to dark we got a call on the radio that a leopard had been spotted several km from where we were, so we took off at breakneck speed bouncing all over the road. We slowed as we got closer and sure enough we came upon a lone male leopard! He came within about 10 feet of our vehicle and the camera was snapping away. Unfortunately I had the wrong settings on the camera! Darn these new fangled ... read more

This weekend we were treated to an unbelievable African safari experience at Entabeni Safari Conservancy. Entabeni is located on 22,000 hectors of land and the animals roam and live much like they would in the wild. Immediately upon our arrival, we saw zebras and giraffes. Throughout the weekend, I enjoyed games drives, bush walks, horseback riding, and an evening with delicious food and drumming at a recreated Pedi village. We were able to see a variety of animals during our stay including kudo (antelope), rhinos, hippos, and an amazing encounter with a lion . . . On our last evening game drive, our guide found the pride of lions. He explained the pride is currently transitioning from the father’s leadership to the son’s which is causing some tension. We found the son the tall in grass ... read more

From Rush - Nana I hope you are not mad but we saw 2 White Rhinos! We already seen 4 of the big 5. We just need to see the leopard. e have 1 and 1/2 days left. I'm pretty sure we will see a jaguar in the time we have left. We saw a cheetah today while we were looking for an elephant herd. While we were out on safari we stopped to have tea, hot chocolate and coffee. Weve already seen Imalas. they are a striped Impala. They will let you pet them because they are so tame. There have been multiple monkey sightings in the camp, but no baboons. There have also been warthogs in the camp. Thats all I have to say for the middle of the day. BYE !!!! From Matt ... read more
