Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! That’s about where I start my explanation of last night. Wow, holly cow, amazing! What a night, what an experience!!!! I will remember last night until I am old and senile. It started out a grey day so Bri and I hit of the shops for a bit and then she headed out to do a bit of work whilst I finished writing the blogs. A work friend of hers, Leah, showed up from Joburg for the game and we got all dressed in red a gold and organized a ride down to the game. We got dropped off by the owners of Bri’s guest house and started the long walk into the stadium. Along the way we saw all sorts of interesting and strange people, German and Spanish fans alike, with a few BafanaBafana ... read more

Geo: -29.853, 31.0164Today I was again dropped up to complete an activity not held in the highest of regards by my 'travel-buddies'It was the Umgeni Bird Park I would be exploring. For all my adventures, and safaris to date, there was one creature I had yet had the pleasure of laying my eyes on; The Ground Hornbill. After checking around, it was here at Umgeni that I discovered it would definatley be, in abundance. The park itself was located in Durban itself, just a few minutes drive south of the Stadium. It wasn't huge in size but big enough to be satisfying and enjoyable for a couple hours.First up on arrival, was to attend the 'Birds of Flight' show. From front row center, this gave me the chance to get a good look at a Hornbil, King Vulture, Malibu ... read more

Geo: -29.853, 31.0164Today was about two very difference awesome experiences.Matt and Dave were bound for the beach.Rather than that, i decided to be dropped off at uShaka Marine World in Durban; renowned for having one of the biggest aquariums in the world. The Park also includes a 'Wet n Wild' and four shows (Shark feeding, Penguin Feeding, Dolphin Show and Seal Show. The aquarium itself was incredible. The theme of it was the design of a sunken cruise liner. The interior was all rustic, with different liner-rooms, unbalanced floors and the like. Amongst all this there were windows, tanks and rooms full of several types of fish. The shark feeding was impressive, along with a nice touch-pool. The size of the aquarium was huge and provided a good couple hours viewing. The penguin feeding wasnt thrilling, but awesome to ... read more

Geo: -29.853, 31.0164So its taken me a while to recap the last few weeks, but now we come to the present time, in my current location in Durban. Here starts the final leg of my holiday.I arrived last night at my accomodation, Albion Guest House, at the princely cost of 450rand (about $80au).The place itself is nice indeed, but nowhere near anything really. It took me an hour or wandering and several sets of directions to get where i am now.Matt and Dave arrive here tomorrow, and we've hired a car for the duration of our stay, which is essential really for this area. Itl cost us about 600rand each for the whole week which is nothing in comparsion to the fees we'd have to pay for cabs.Im gonna relax a bit today, im really highly strung, a ... read more

We arrived in Jo-burg early on Wednesday hoping that things would go smoothly so we could get to Pretoria and the third game versus Algeria on time. For once... They did. We picked up our third Chevy Aveo of the trip (this one was silver and named the Silver Bullet unlike the White Bullet and the Blue Bullet, the names I gave the first two Aveos) and headed North to the capital. I will say while not having any power at all (it felt like a 600 cc dirtbike engine when you hit the gas) the Aveos treated us well and will be remembered. Having boycotted GPS altogether and frankly, from being exhausted from traveling non-stop for over 3 weeks - the trip to our hotel in Pretoria was an adventure. I have no clue how, ... read more

Last night was our last night at our hostel in Durban, and it has been difficult finding a hostel in Durban on game day. So after breakfast, I got some more minutes added to our cell phone and went online to find hostels around Durban, preferably to the south as that is the way to Port Elizabeth. I looked on the map for cities not too far from Durban, hoping that we could drive there after the game and make it in time for the Brazil - Chile Round of 16 match, which was the late game of the day. In order to do that, we needed to call around, find an available bed, rent a car, exchange some money and make it to the Durban stadium for the Holland - Slovakia at 4pm. Afterwards, we ... read more

Early start off to Bloemfontein for England Germany game. It is easy to see why Tolkien based Mordor on this city, it's dire. We meet the Aussie boys who have booked us into a hotel as all camp sites are full. As Australia didn't make it through their group, they now have been allocated Germany tickets so will be as the same matches as us, handy! It's walking distance to the waterfront so off we go for prematch warm up. Unfortunately Bloemfontein didn't seem to know we were coming as all pubs on the waterfront ran out of beer 90mins before the game. We make our way to the stadium which luckily hasn't run out, yet... Disatrous game with a disallowed goal for England, morale drops and we lose :( Even worse I lost my phone ... read more

We woke up today to rain and wind, lots of it, so that pretty much put an end to our plans of walking around Durban alongside the beach. We had a nice breakfast at Ushaka Marine World, backed up my camera memory card on a DVD and decided to go to Gateway Mall, a massive new mall just north of Durban. FIFA has set up shuttles not only to and from the stadiums; they have also organized shuttles to popular destinations, and Gateway Mall is one of those places. Workers are all over the place to help you find the right shuttle. The only problem with the shuttle service, is that we found out about them AFTER visiting Gateway Mall...so let’s say that we had a little adventure today. Hehe So here’s how it went...we got ... read more

OK - first up - I have been less lazy this time and culled some shower stories - apart from the fact that most have been freezing, as a matter of fact only one has been hot start to finish. Enjoy! Oh - and I tried to upload the video again and it doesn't work for me, so hopefully it might work once it is saved so sorry if it doesn't work again, it is the only way I could even hint at the excitement of the locals at the FanFest. Saturday, 12 June 2010 Fanatics HQ, Durban Up just after 7.30am and quick shower and then brekky with Kelly. Then down to laptop, downloading heaps of photos and video from yesterday and get ready for internet around 10am - lucky someone said yesterday about a ... read more

After driving through Swaziland, we still had a few hours to go before making it to our destination...Durban. Daddy was a little bummed he was not able to watch the USA v Algeria game and had to settle for listening to it on the radio. Just as he was saying it looks like the USA was going home, the best player, Donovan, scored a goal, with seconds remaining in extra time. Daddy screamed with excitement so I added in. He was very happy. The rest of the trip to Durban was not as happy as it was getting late and all of a sudden there was a big log in the road....daddy swerved and ran over it and we heard a big "thug" but the car continued to drive okay. About an hour later, at a ... read more
