Southern Iberian Peninsula Part 1 Prepare yourselves, this shit is long. Also, if these pictures don't post correctly, I'll use this site to upload them. Trying to link to my google drive account to get the placement of the pictures to flow better. We meant to leave Lisbon southbound on the 10:50am train to Faro, Portugal, and then take the 6:00pm bus to Seville, Spain. It turns out Chegadas (arrivals) does not mean Partidas(departures). We looked at the wrong monitor, stood on platform five (the train arriving from Faro) and watched our train to Faro (platform seven) roll out of the station. Whoops. Four hours and €8 to change the tickets later, we left for Faro. Consequently we missed the bus to Seville so we decided to stay in a Hostel in Faro. Its funny how ... read more

Day 11 - Leaving Aït Ben Haddou, going to Marrakesh Oh yes.... Another good nights sleep, I never fail! The really heavy blankets make me so comfortable! We were up naturally at 6.30; showered, and ready for breakfast at 7. It's been s good group for timing. We've never had any latecomers! We set off at 8am for Marrakesh. I sat with Sarah today. We watched Philomena, but although Saerah was enjoying the film, it wasn't good for her travel sickness! After about 90 minutes, we stopped for coffee and toilets. I felt sorry for Sarah, she's suffering today! Poor Sarah, the further we travelled, the worse she got... Until she was so sick! The drive is really scary. The mountains are so high, and the roads are narrow and winding, with horrendous hairpin bends. I ... read more

Day 10 - leaving Todra Gorge, going to Aït Ben Haddou I woke up naturally this morning at about 6.30am... Then snoozed until about 7! Ooohhh... My aching hips! When I put my feet to the floor I felt like I had no legs! That bloody camel! ... Lol I went outside on the terrace, which I not noticed before, it's so nice out there! The water runs by the side of the hotel, there's a pool, a lounge area, sun beds etc, it's so peaceful, and picturesque out there! I nearly missed it! Everyone made it for breakfast at 8am; it was pancakes and jam today, with added choice of boiled eggs and bread, and as always, coffee, tea and orange juice. We set off at 9am to go to Aït Ben Haddou. The first ... read more

Day 9 - Goodbye Merzouga, hello Todra Gorge Another early morning, but today was different, no alarm, just Marcel! It was his wish to do the morning assault call! He did it well. We were up and away very quickly. The camels were ready and waiting for us. We slowly trekked our way back across the Sahara to the hotel. It was about an hour trek. On the way we stopped to watch an amazing sunrise unfold across the horizon. We arrived back at the hotel, I was not too cold in my body, as I was well wrapped up from head to toe.... But Awww.... My hands were like ice, I could barely move them! We went in for breakfast, everyone went straight to the hot coffee. The first one was just to warm my ... read more

Day 8 - Goodbye Fes, hello Atlas Mountains and Sahara desert/Merzouga Ohhhh.... It was an early start this morning! I was up at 4.55, breakfast at 5.15. Really, it was ok for me as I went to bed at 8.45! I got showered, watched an episode of Suits on Netflix, then slept like a baby, as always! Breakfast today was scrambled eggs, bread and cheese, followed by pain de chocolate with coffee. Very nice it was too! I brought my bag down with me this morning, so I'm good to go! Haled came through with 3 pairs of socks..yayyyy... My warmer world is now complete, and just in time for our visit to the Atlas Mountains. When I was in Taghazout, I was warned about the cold and snow in the north, I was not disappointed! ... read more

Day 7 - Fès medina, shopping! Another good nights sleep! I went to bed at 10.30, and slept solid until 7am. I went to breakfast with Heather, and met up with Cy from Boston. Breakfast was good. Today we are doing a sight seeing tour of Fès medina. We started with a short walk through a town area. There's were a few small shops with houses above; Muslims live on the left, Jews on the right, but all in harmony. The guide showed us the green and brown loose soap cream; green for domestic use, and mown for the skin. He raved in how good the skin one is; although it looks disgusting! We continued to a panoramicbr viewpoint. What a view! I had a great picture taken, a hit similar to my picture jumping at ... read more

Day 6 - Goodbye Casablanca, hello Meknes, Volubilis, AFRA Project and Fes Last night I shared a room with Heather from Toronto. Originally, she was upset at the prospect of sharing, but she accepted it, we actually got on well. As always, I slept like a baby! We set our alarms for 6am, for breakfast at 7. I was well rested, and up, showered, dressed and packed by 6.30. Breakfast was good. I went for all three course: cereal and fruit, omelette with salad and bread, then a croissant and coffee.... Hmmmm, I love my breakfast more than any other meal of the day! We set off on the tour bus at 8am. Everyone was on time and ready to go. We expect to be stopping in about 2 hours at the imperial city of Meknes. ... read more

Day 5 - Goodbye Taghazout, hello Casablanca I was up, by the alarm, at 6.45 this morning. No yoga today, as I am leaving Taghazout to go to Casablanca to join an 8 da tour. I booked it last minute, so quite honestly I'm really not very well prepared! Laden and Chakib have been telling me that it is going to be cold where I am going so I've been doing some last minute shopping for warmer clothes! I'll be ok, apart from the footwear, no one had boots small enough for me to buy! I'll try again when the opportunity arises. It'll be alright in the end, if not, it's not the end.... As Ankur would say! Larsen had got a taxi for me to go to the bus station this morning. He arrived at ... read more

Day 4 - More yoga and surfing I had to use the alarm to get up this morning, all of this strenuous activity is starting to catch up with me! Yoga started at 8am, but I went up to the studio Carly to do a few sun salutations to prepare me for the yoga! I am so sore.... All over. I am feeling the effects of having such a long break from yoga! I didn't feel so had as everyone else is also really feeling the pain! I struggled through, but I still have to say, I did feel better for making the effort! We went for breakfast, all good as usual! We were joined by another German lad last night, so now there are 5 in their group. Larsen took me to buy my bus ... read more

Day 3 - more surfing and the souk Another really good nights sleep. When I'm away, I feel so free and relaxed, that I nearly always sleep really well. I was up at 7.30am, this morning we are doing a yoga class with Ella. I'm worried, I haven't done any yoga for about 18 months! The yoga session was such a rude awakening for me! I seem to have lost my flexibility, abs ceased up! I struggled this morning, but felt better for making the effort. It does help bent in such a beautiful surroundings. Yoga was swiftly followed by breakfast. Again, I enjoyed the breakfast, but I always do. I think breakfast s my favourite meal of the day! No matter here I am in the world. We got out surfing gear ready to go ... read more
