I 'm tired ! Last night we stayed in a BEDOUIN camp in the Sahara desert . Our transportation into the desert was via camel ...The ship of the desert they say . I say a rather cumbersome beast who has an I credible sway when he walks which of course causes the rider to sway as well . His breadth is WIDE , REALLY and there is no where for your legs except to let them dangle.Trying too bend my knees and lift my legs just caused them to shiver and left me feeling more insecure . Going up and down the dunes was a challenge , leaning forward and hanging on for dear life going up and leaning back going down both required my whole attention. BUT it was worth it . Our night ... read more

No easy way to summarize this side trip from Malaga. Two booking errors on my part led to some temporary grief, but we still came away with a worthwhile experience in a part of the world we have not visited before. The local bus got us to the ferry terminal in Algeciras, but I had bought tickets to Tangier Med, not realizing it was 50km east of the city. Instead of the expected 10 minute walk to our guest house we had to find a way there. Fortunately for us Omar, a fellow passenger, recognized our confusion and arranged to get us into a taxi-van with 3 other passengers and share the fare. Omar actually apologized for not coming with us! The taxi dropped us off outside the Medina (old walled city) and gestured vaguely in ... read more

Another interesting day . This morning we left Chefchouen and proceeded to drive through the Rif range of mountains to the Atlas range. It was nearly all agricultural land growing wheat , lentils and some hay . The land looks aMazingly rich and the fields were in various stages ofgrowth . Some soil newly turned , about to be turned , planted with growth ranging from inches ( the lentils)to knee high , the wheat . I saw only 2 tractors ! The plowing was done mostly with donkeys ,occasionally with a horses. It seemed to be a family affair..6_8people working in the field. The plots were all side by side, sometimes a narrow ditch separating them . It looked good in the sunshine and fresh air . There were a lot of olive orchards about ... read more

I,m in Africa ! The journey was not difficult although I can,t say I slept to much . Suzanne met us for lunch in Montreal and we had a great visit . All is well with the Bourasa family . We arrived here at 6 am and had no trouble finding an ATM a and the train into town but the train was delayed nearly an hour for some reason . We didn't, get to the hotel until nearly 11am . It is a comfortable enough space within easy walking distance to the Medina and the Hussan II Mosque . We walked and wandered all day and found the people we encountered to be pleasant and helpful . .They seem relaxed .The sun was shining and our coats were too warm ...except when the wind was ... read more

Was wir ... read more

This is an insight about my hometown Marrakesh. Here you will discover Marrakesh Medina, oriental market, places to eat drink and spend a great evening. One of them is single of it's kind, Narwama, a family owned restaurant fusion of Moroccan and Thai food. Located in the Medina, in a splendid Riad dating from the 19th century, heritage world of UNESCO. Enjoy the exotic umber city of Marrakesh.... read more

Ouarzazate situated South of Morocco. It draws it's Berber name Dumot. It is often the stop of predilection for tourists on their way towards the doors of the Sahara. Most of them stopover to supply provisions for their travels to the desert. You can surely plan one day or two in the city, You can find many hotels for accommodation and benefit from the traditional food locals offer. It is worth the turning. The town's popularity are the cinemas sites which are present here. Their are films like Lawrence of Arabia, Star Wars, and Gladiators which where turned here partially or in their integrality. Some of my pictures evokes the atmosphere of this city. Enjoy the ride.... read more

Tagine, couscous, dates, mandarines, camels, cats, tile mosaics, cold nights, hot sun, repeat! Since I skipped traveling internationally this past summer, I splurged this winter break. For the first time in years I had two full weeks off of school so I bought my airline and found a great 15 day tour of Morocco with Intrepid and that was pretty much all the planning I had to do. All of my expectations were exceeded by a mile! The Intrepid trip, Best of Morocco, really covered a lot of ground! I'd highly recommend not just the trip but the company (I also used them when I traveled to Turkey in 2011). The only other places I'd still want to explore in Morocco are: Tangier and Chefchaouen which are both near the Mediterranean coast. Our tour began in ... read more

Toda we head from Fez to Casablanca. Our taxi arrives on time and our driver speaks English so all is looking good. We first head to Volubius which is a Roman city outside of Mekness. Becs wants to get a guide but Constance is convinced we can self guide using Lonely Planet. Inevitably this leads to an argument, to settle the peace Gus runs off to find a guide. I would probably say that even though he was difficult to understand sometimes the guide was worth the DHM150 (the Chief Negotiator wanted to have a crack at him but we convinced here that Gus had already negotiated very hard). Although Constance did follow us around with the Lonely Planet trying to prove that it could have been done just as easily. After Volubius we head for ... read more
