Geo: 31.3336, -7.467453 hours away from Marrakech, in a lovely Berber village in The Atlas Mountains. I became very attached to this place. had a wonderful time wandering through the mountains, through the fields of wild flowers, past the waterfalls and the donkies taking a picnic of fresh fish. The villagers were all extremely friendly and welcoming. I drank lots of mint tea! My principle bonding experience with the locals was when i decided to visit the local haram (public baths) for a clean up. Quite an experience! Huge ladies poking and rubbing me whilst I starred in shock at the amount of dirt coming off me!! It's a real social gathering there, the hubb of all gossip and apparently the prime place for wife hunting for their sons!... read more

Geo: 30.71, -9.00487Taroudant is a lovely place. Very much like a miniature Marrakech with all the atmosphere but none of the stress. It's a great place to buy cheap and authentic gifts. I gave into a carpet here!!... read more

Geo: 35.8179, -5.65409My flight fell through so in order to get back to Lille I had to sit on a 38hr coach journey (they said it would be 14!!), right through Spain and on into France. There were definitely a few illegal immigrants onboard!! Every hour the Muslim call to prayer was played over the radio. Very interesting for the first 5 hrs but not all that appreciated when I was trying to doze off!!... read more

Geo: 31.8857, -7.55943Disappearing off to Morrocco was one of my ideas on impulse and definitely a very good one! I was studying for a term in Lille, France at the time. It was one of the many 'jours feries' and I thought why not!! I wasn't particuarly popular with the uni but a pot of pure saffron soon remedied that! I am prone to getting lost, so putting myself on my own in the maze of a Marrakech souk was a recipe for disaster. I definitely regretted my impulsive nature as I wandered around, completely and utterly lost, far too hot and burdened by my huge rucksack. However, as always it all worked out just wonderfully. I bumped into Hicham, who offered me a cup of coffee and for some reason I accepted, perfectly aware that ... read more

I can't help but enjoy Morocco. It feels so good to be back in an Islamic country. I got a 60 euro ticket from Paris to Casablanca(very cheap), and as soon as I left I might as well have arrived, with the Arabic and Berber music blaring in my ear, the smell of foreign food and sweat. It occurs to me that my friend Muhamad said he thought I was Moroccan before he talked to me on the bus, and I was going over all of the nationalities I've been mistaken for in the last year: English, Spanish, Portuguese(today), Afghani, Tajik, Uzbek, Chinese, German, Irish, French, and others I can't remember at the moment. I talked to Muhamad somewhere around Tangier and he offered his hospitality. It was nice to stay in a proper Moroccan ... read more

Hey Folks, sorry its been months and month since I've posted anything. Life in Morocco is busy! I had a big adventure last week. I had a week off from school so I finally decided to head up into the mountains. I went alone because most of my friend had to stay in Fes for various reasons, but I did have time to stop in Rabat with my roommate Amanda and have an amazing sushi dinner with some of our friends before I went down south. The sushi was almost as good as the mountain trip even though it cost me what I'd spend for a week's worth of Moroccan food. We sat next to a sushi conveyor belt and picked what we wanted as it came around. I'm so sick of Moroccan food... The chicken ... read more
