Sbah l_xir! I hope this e-mail finds you all well! Some of you I've been in good contact with recently while some probably haven't heard from me for quite some time, but I wanted to let you all know that I am over in Morocco serving two years in the Peace Corps and if possible I'd like to stay in touch with you all. So far I've been to Casablanca, Rabat(the capital) and now Fes where I am receiving training in Moroccan Arabic and culture. Next week I'll be moving in with a host family and in December I will be given my site assignment: At that point I will begin my two years of service as a Youth Development volunteer. I'll be working in a Dar Chebab (Youth/Community Center) teaching English and organizing community development ... read more

Hello everybody Sorry there's no photos for this blog. Many technical issues going on over here. The good news is: I can't say enough how awesome the other people in my group are. Training is a bit like summer camp; but even better. It's a diverse group. Besides being from all over the US and with different backgrounds we're not all recent college graduates. Our youngest is 21 and our oldest is somewhere in his 40s. I can't remember exactly. We lost the oldest of the group we started out with in Philadelphia. Barbara is 77 and she went with the other half when we split in Rabat. It's a fun community of volunteers. Last night somebody got out a laptop and others found DVDs and we borrowed a screan and projector from the PC staff ... read more

Rabat is an amazing city, I only wish I had more time to visit it. The Peace Corps is keeping us busy all day with training and such. We have to go through safety and PC policies and learn countless acronyms and names which sound very unpronouncable at first. I wish I had more exciting news, but for now it's mostly meetings in a windowless room just like in Philadelphia. They're interesting, but they're still meetings. Instead I'd like to leave you with some of my favorite parts of what we've been talking about. The cover of the PC Morocco Pre-Service Training Handbook has a very appropriate poem by Lao-Tsu (6th century BC). Go to the people Live with the people Start with the people Work with what the people know Learn by doing Teach by ... read more

6 am bedtime.... zZzzZzzz... read more

This was my favorite city in Morocco. Stayed in realy cool riad. The main square had so many things to look at. Dad held a snake by my head. He said it wasn't poisonous, but I dont believe him. Lots of music and action. I was sad to leave after the 2 week trip to Morocco and look forward to my next trip to Africa someday.... read more

Casablanca was a big city and only stayed there 1 night. While the city was not too pretty, the highlight and reason for not skipping the city was a magnificent mosque....Hassan II, one of the biggest religous monuments in the world. It was very impressive.... read more

WOW! There is so much to write about this weekend! I would have to say it was one of the best 48 hours of my entire life! I´ve never laughed so hard and seen and done so many interesting and exciting things! Thursday night the group of 10 of us left for Tarifa, Spain. Tarifa is the most southern point of all of Europe. Our bus left at 11:00 p.m. Heather (a girl from my school) and I spent the 8 hour trip under the seats of the bus curled up in a sheet that I brought! It was a little squishy, but, hey, it worked and I was able to sleep some of the way there. We arrived in Tarifa around 7:30 in the morning. From there, we had to call Manuel, the head of ... read more

Salaams In a day or 2 Ill leave Rabat. Plan is to go to MEKNES , a small town just before Fes which is called the cultural heart of Morocco. From there onto to FES for a REAL taste of Moroccan Culture. Been to the Tunisian Consul and they assure me that I can get a VISA issued at the Airport. Now I have to find some cheap flights, since the border between Morocco and Algeria is seemingly closed. In the internet cafe to charge the camera which died last night when i wanted to take pics of the medina when busy . I also need to take a pic of the main road on my way out. I changed the reolution of the pics so now they canty be uploaded since they are too small. ... read more
