Well we spent a full day in Santiago, basically doing a blitz sightseeing tour of the city, laundry and even a movie. I spoke of Santiago briefly in my last blog entry, but we had not fully explored the whole area at that point so I will add a bit more information regarding what we saw. We visited the presidential palace, and managed to catch a glimpse of their troops putting on some kind of nationalistic display, marching around in front of the royal building, with stray dogs chasing away the renegade pigeons so they were not to bother any of the trumpeters. From there we delved further into the city center and enjoyed all the pedestrian walkways about town, these are quite something actually. Basically they are roads where they no longer allow vehicles. I ... read more

Well after a few days in Lima due to Semana Santa (easter) and all the transport and accomodation being fully booked we were finally able to get out and headed south to Ica and out to the oasis town of Huancachina. We spent just two nights here - Mike and I did the wineries in Ica while Gary visited the bars in Ica! Wineries were classic and our guide was great - able to practice our spanish and on more than one occasion he got to practice his english! We left Ica at 6pm on Monday and for 16 gruelling hours made our way to Cuzco. The bus was comfy enough however we were thrown around all night from side to side and alot of people suffered pretty bad from the change in altutude - little ... read more

So it was us, our guide Samuel, the arriero Morino, and two Israelis Idan and Omri. Lucky those boys went mad with their digicams so we have a bunch of photos. oh yeah, the night before i had an emergency visit to the emergency section of the huaraz hospital because my tum was still rotten adn i really hadn´t eaten anything and kept it down for over one week. Lo and I met Lotte at Lima airport, it was very exciting. We had a night in Lima catching up before we headed off on a plane to Cusco. Cusco is beautiful, I am suprised that noone told me HOW beautiful it is. It has amazing buildings, ruins and mountains. Also has a great night life. It is one of my favourite citys. The 3 of us spent a couple of days acclimatising and looking at all the inca sites around cusco. The Sacred Valley of the Incas. There are loads and loads. The Inca trail was amazing, probably one of the best things I have done. We set out the first day and met our group, guide and porters. There were 13 of us trekkers, 2 guides and 17 porters (to carry our stuff), 2 ... read more

A quick change in our plans lead us to the small coastal town of Pisco, where there are beautiful chicas and plenty of birds. Pisco lies between Ica and Lima, and offers great tours to Peru´s Paracas National Park and Ballaestras Islands, which are considered "poor man´s Galapagos." Let´s just say that during the two hour boat ride, there were alot of birds. Tens of thousands of birds on a small island, which is white because, yes, it´s covered with bird droppings. There is also an abundance of sea lions. Over a hundred sea lions lying on the coast line, making wailing sounds that can be quite disturbing when echoed off of the shoreside cliffs. The tour ended at 4:00PM, and now we´re sitting in the town of Pisco enjoying the high speed internet. Will head ... read more

Lima Peru: April 21 2006: First Day My flight was early flying into Lima at 10:30pm on the 20th. It was fairly painless, got some good sleep on the plane, and the Japanese couple next to me didn’t speak any english so it was a quiet ride, minus the crying, seat-kicking child sitting behind me. When I exited the plane I followed the signs leading to Imigrationes. On the way to customs I asked a man who had been on my plane a question about the baggage claim area, and we ended up chatting for a few minutes in line waiting to get our passports stamped. I told him about how I wanted to go to the jungle, la selva, near Pucallpa, and about how I had sold everything a few weeks ago because I felt ... read more

Hi, we had a pretty good flight and arrived early into Lima. When we got to the hotel we had a sleep. After a very nice lunch we checked out the Central plaza, SanFransisco chuch and the Inquisition museum. The kids liked the catacombs under the chuch, lots of bones.... read more

After another night of rum and coke drinking games, of which i was severly rubbish at, the burning morning sun felt hotter than usual. We headed to Ica to get bus tickets for the 15hr journey to Cusco that night, id been informed that night buses where confortable and nothing like the usual buses in the towns. After a quick look about, fake Oakleys bought for $2 and a some food we head back for the buggy and sand boarding trip ran from the hostel. As we start ourselves into the rat like off road vehicle, Tom confesses he thought the buggy was just for dropping us at the top of the dunes, he was very wrong. As we leave the town the driver, who is trying to impress a female co-pilot, shifts into turbo and ... read more
