So, KLM lost my fucking bodyboard. The fucking fucks. They said they'd send it out the next day, but did they? No. Fucking fucks. Landed in SP and immediately got introduced to the thrills of driving in Brazil. As far as I can make out, it's kinda like a computer game. Imagine that you get points for driving as fast as possible, and then braking as hard as possible in order to bring yourself to a stop. Points are awarded for changing direction at will without using the indicators, and also the horn is to be used liberally, especially in association with chronic impatience. If you are a taxi, double or even triple your points by overcharging your customers by the aforementioned multiples. Sao Paulo is an intense experience - you get told the horror stories ... read more

We woke up at 5.30 to get the bus from Buzios to Rio. With 5mins to spare we made the next bus to Angra Do Reis where we then got a ferry to Ilha Grande. I was ready to go to Argentina but Maz werent ready to give up Brazil just yet and as he heard so many good things about Ilha Grande we made the trek there. We stayed in AquaRio hostel which is apparently the nicest and most ´happening´. It is clean and the staff are helpful and speak English. They hold barbacues and arrange daily trips too so it was a good chance for us to start meeting more people. We met a mixture of interesting people. But apart from that we both don´t really rate Ilha Grande as much as what we ... read more

No really, that about sums it up. Thousands of kilometers of idyllic beaches with good breaks (and strong currents, whatchout!) line the coast of the Bahia and the northeast of Brazil. And in Salvador..they beat drums. All the time. They really really really love drums. Unforturnately, I didn´t have enought time to really see all the spots around the northeast, but I did have a few days in Fortaleza before my flight. Well, let´s just say I will definately be back to see all of you, northeast.... read more

Another overnight bus journey from Curitiba took us to Foz do Iguacu at 7am, for our visit to one of the seven wonders of the world. Iguacu Falls is stituated on the tri borders of Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. We stayed on the Brazil side of the falls in Hostel International which was well located and much better than Curitiba! After arriving and having breakfast we got chatting to a Belgian guy who was checking out. He told us that the Brazilian side was a lot smaller than the Argentinian side and that a few hours would cover it but to spend the whole day at the Argentinian side. In the afternoon we headed the 12km out of town to the national park and viewed the waterfalls. Overall there are 275 individual falls but the major ... read more

Hab also doch Taktgefuehl ;-) Morgen werden uns das erste Mal ohne Guide in di... read more

so Penny got back onto that Catamaran. Proud too cos I (Penny) beat some grown men. They filled sack fulls but I only vomited a tiny bit and overboard this time! From Salvador we took a 2hr flight with OceanAir to Rio. We both scared of these little toy planes so I sure the journey has added afew more white hairs - but overal the journey werent too bad - the lack of security on the plane didnt help either - the cock pit door was open the whole flight! We booked a room at a Hostel for the night in Rio, Casa 6 - which was just what we needed to get a good night rest for a cheap price, and then we got the bus to Buzios. It was 3 hours and not a ... read more

Hallo! Touristen halt ;-) ... read more

I´ve been putting off this entry for a couple of days, as I seem to have accumulated SO much to write about. With this in mind, I have a feeling that this entry may end up a bit of an ´I did this, then I did that´kind of thing, so apologies to all those who were hoping for an inspirational piece of writing! So, where was I? Oh yes, Rio baby! I´ve moved on twice since then so I´m having to cast my mind back all of, ooh, at least five days. Which actually seems like a lifetime when you´re travelling. Rio was, quite simply, awesome. In hindsight, I think I enjoyed it more than I thought I was at the time and I now feel as though I would quite happily go back there. There ... read more
