Another overnight bus journey from Curitiba took us to Foz do Iguacu at 7am, for our visit to one of the seven wonders of the world. Iguacu Falls is stituated on the tri borders of Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. We stayed on the Brazil side of the falls in Hostel International which was well located and much better than Curitiba!
After arriving and having breakfast we got chatting to a Belgian guy who was checking out. He told us that the Brazilian side was a lot smaller than the Argentinian side and that a few hours would cover it but to spend the whole day at the Argentinian side.
In the afternoon we headed the 12km out of town to the national park and viewed the waterfalls. Overall there are 275 individual falls but the major one is Garganta del Diablo and it was superb. The viewpoint is further away than the Argentinian one but you feel the vapour as the water tumbled below.
After such a tiring day we decided to go to a rodizo of meat for dinner. This consists of a buffet of different types of salads, pastas and other side orders to accompany the different types of
Brasilian side
Lato brasiliano meat, which are constantly brought to your table and carved in front of you. Luckily we were sitting beside an American couple who were now living in Brazil and they were able to tell us the different types of meat so we could avoid certain options like chicken hearts which seem to be very popular here!! This rodizo was so good (and sooo cheap) we came back the next day except this time it was pizza!! Chiara was very happy!
After 3 days of Foz do Iguacu we said goodbye to Brazil and headed on to Argentina to visit the other side of the waterfalls. We took transport from our hostel and completed the border crossing without any problem - another stamp in the passport!
As expected the Argentinian side was huge and took us the full day to see some of the main waterfalls in the national park. We saved the best till last when we walked the boardwalk towards Garganta del diablo. The sound deafening, words cannot describe the site of the largest waterfall in the world. We stayed there more than an hour captivated by the sights and sounds of the falls and the Iguacu Basin around
us.
Our hostel collected us and left us to the bus station in Puerto Iguazu for our overnight bus jouney to Corrientes (Bad Boys 2 on this one!)
This journey was fine and we arrived to a warm morning in Corrientes. The city was nice but really a stop off for us on our way to northwest Argentina and Bolivia. Enjoy the photos of the sunsets over the Parana River!
ITALIANO!
View from Garganta del Diablo
