Hi it is Nitzan and I am going to write a long blog. From La Paz we drived 20 hours in a bus to a small town called Rurenabaque. There we found a hostel that was full of Israelis but we had no choice. The next morning we found an agency to go to the Pampas. The Pampas is a kind of a savanna. The next morning we woke up early and got on the way with our group to the Pampas. We drived in a jeep for three hours and on the way we saw lots of hawks, eagles, and even one Austrich!!!!! Then we drove 3 more hours in a boat but that was already the begining of the Pampas, after one second we could already see one crocodile!!!!! then we noticed that there are hundreds ... read more

Last Friday, 23/10 I arrived in La Paz from Copacabana. I spent pretty much the entire day trying to obtain my Paraguayan Visa--which I recently found out was actually a planning mistake and now Im traveling to Paraguay because I feel that I HAVE to, given the expense. I took the 6:15 flight from La Paz to the jungle town of Rurrenabaque, which borders Parque Nacional Madidi. Even making the flight was very lucky, as there had been rain for several days prior, and flights cannot land in Rurre after rain because it is made of dirt. The flight in itself was very scenic flying several km by snow-capped peaks (we were below the summit) in a 12 person jet. I opted to take the Pampas tour instead of the jungle, because no matter how tough ... read more

We headed off down death road once more but this time on the new improved one, its still classed as one of the most dangerous roads but its paved and has crash barriers in places so its not so bad. It took us 16 hours on mainly unpaved roads to get from La Paz @3,660m to Rurrenabaque @ 150m. I have to say the heat of the Amazon basin was a welcome treat. After 5 months in 25*C + and then 3 more in cold winter climates of 15*C or less it was great to put on shorts and flip flops again. The bus ride has a really bad reputation as being undoable but we have been on some pretty bad ones and couldnt afford 10 times the price to fly. In all honesty it wasnt ... read more

We´re back from our 3 day trip to the Pampas (amazon lowlands)! The trip was great (the weather could´ve been better, but oh well) because we were able to see a lot of wildlife. We were skeptical that we´d be able to see all the wildlife they advertised, but we weren´t disappointed at all. I´ll get to that in a little bit. The first day was quite tiring because Myra and I had to wake up at 4:00 to catch a 6:15 flight from La Paz to Rurrenabaque. It sounds like an unimaginable hour to wake up at, but we´ve had to wake up really early for all our tours so far so we weren´t too put off. What did put us off was our 3 hour car ride from Rurrenabaque to Santa Rosa (to get ... read more

Heading into the Jungle and down the Death Road Funny - time seems to fly when you work hard but when travelling one would assume time is travelling slower. I can confirm that is NOT the case! We are now 55 days into our trip and I need to do some catching up on our travel stories. From our last trip to the Salt Flats we went to La Paz - officially Bolivia´s capital at 3660m. The first view of La Paz was breathtaking. The city is located at the base of several mountains and houses are built all the way to the top of each mountain. All roads in La Paz go eventually uphill, which makes walking kind of a nice exercise. On average we walk about 4 to 5 hours each day. Interestingly enough ... read more

The are two options for those visiting Rurrenabaque: A pampas tour or a jungle tour. Nearly all the tour operators were pushing the pampas tour, and nobody seemed interested in taking us into the jungle. However, since we had come to see the Amazon rainforest, it seemed strange to then only visit the pampas. Wer wanted to see big trees and were also under the impression that the pampas tour would be very busy with large tour goups. So when one of the operators we talked to finally got excited about the jungle and told us it would be a much better, more intimate and authentic tour, we opted to go with them. This was a decision well made. The tour guides were a family-run operation, of Tacana people who still live and work most of ... read more

Our adventure started as soon as we tried to board our 18hr bus journey from La Paz to Rurrenbaque, we were told to go to the office around the corner due to a slight problem with our tickets. After 5 mins of confusion we were advised that there were only two seats available! However, there were four of us gringos wanting to get on this bus….mmmm slight problemo! I thought that’s it we’re not getting on this bus, but surprisingly after a few more phone calls we received new tickets and told to board the bus. All was ok, that was until we found our seats already occupied by 2 other people with valid tickets!! So we just grabbed some spare seats and hoped all would be fine. The first few hours went by with no ... read more

On return to Rurre from the Pampas we were all buzzing however it was time to start saying our goodbyes as Cinthya was heading out on a flight to La Paz that evening and Dave was following the next morning. The six of us booked ourselves into the same hostel and whilst doing this Cinthya rolled up telling us her flight had been canceled due to the weather so she had to stay the night. A shower was the first item on the list for Sharon and I and the second was a beer. After telling the rest of the guys where we would be we headed to the local bar and once again relaxed and relived the last three days. Eventually the whole group were together and we had a last night celebration with quite ... read more

Rurrenabaque is the jumping off point for adventures into Bolivia's portion of the Amazon jungle and wetlands. We decided to start with a three day trip into the jungle, so packed lots of insect repellent and climbed aboard a boat as it sped up river. On the way to our jungle camp we stopped off at a sugar cane planation and collect freshly picked oranges off the tree. Once at our camp we begin our jungle training with bow and spear practice, before heading out on a trail for a three hour hike. Although it was early afternoon the tree canopy prevented much of the sunlight getting through and we seemed to be walking in perpetual dusk. Once the sun had set, and after dinner, we went out again to see what the jungle and river ... read more

People that think the travelling life is easy is wrong. Don't get me wrong you do get to see some amazing places and the majority of the time life can be quite relaxed however it isn't always late nights and late mornings..... On Tuesday morning my alarm went off at 4.45am as we had to be at the airport for 5.30am in time for our flight. So the four of us Sharon, Scott, Kate and I caught a taxi to the military airport and duly checked in. It was the first surreal experience of the day as whilst we were sat waiting to board the flight it felt like we were in a 1970's Bond film as the walls were painted yellow and blue and the military staff were walking around in coats with fur lined ... read more
