When someone says ‘What do you think of when I say “Exmouth”? my reply is simple….Pristine Beaches and Picture Perfect. Located 1270kms from Perth, WA, with an overnight stop in Kalbarri, the drive and wait is truly paid off as soon as you hit the beaches of Exmouth. After returning from Exmouth back in April….I was sad to be leaving but also relaxed and in awe of where I had just been. With the sun on my back and the smell of the oceanit was fabulous, I honestly didn’t want to come home. We rented a house in the town centre, which was close to the shops and resturants and was perfect for 2 families of 4 plus more. I would also highly recommend staying at the Lighthouse Caravan Park which was absolutely devine…perfect for the ... read more

I had a full day in Exmouth which gave me the chance to do one of the things I specifically came to Australia to do- scuba diving. Everyone in the world should try this at least once in their lives. Exmouth would be a good place to do it. The day didn't start off too well as me and the other certified diver in the tour group tried to do pancakes for breakfast. Unfortunately, the gas-powered hot plate didn't light immediately, allowing gas to build up, and then suddenly WOOMPH towards her face. Bit of a shocker, that. Luckily it stopped just short of burning her face off, and so we went off to do our dives, her with a few hairs shorter than they used to be. But anyway, we got picked up and put ... read more

Broome- Exmouth We went to the deckchair cinema at Broome and saw a film with Paul Hogan - It was a road trip from Victoria to Cape York and they went to loads of places that we had been - they even got their fruit taken away at the fruit fly zone, just like we did! We went on a tour of the Willie Creek Pearl Farm where they taught us all about oysters and how to get great pearls from them)(makes your eyes water, and rather put me off pearls to be honest) - but it was quite interesting! Port Smith - there is a tidal lagoon here where there is supposed to be great fishing - what better thing to do on your birthday! So that is where we went for Barry’s 60th. It ... read more

WESTWARD HO! We did this clever thing, not completely by accident, as we knew that northern hot-spots like Katherine, Kununurra and Broome turn hellish in the dry season - camping grounds chocker, shops overwhelmed, people turned away etc, as half of NSW, WA and most of Victoria flee their home states at the first signs of winter. The plan was to stay in Darwin till late in the season to avoid this Grey Nomad feeding frenzy, leaving just before the ‘build up’ and start of the wet season. So far it’s paid off - we’ve had waterfront camp sites, empty roads, free boat trips and special tour deals. Talking to fellow travellers it appears we got out of the Northern Territory about a week ahead of the oppressive humidity, cloud build up and storms. Our first ... read more

Day 178 - Exmouth Somehow being in Exmouth feels really comfortable. We’ve only been here once before but it’s such a simplistic place even with the new marina that it feels very homely and familiar. It was nice to be on electric last night, sometimes you miss it and sometimes you don’t but when the weather is hot the fridge copes much better with the assistance from the electric fan so that makes it a big plus! We were up well before 7am so had time to help the lovely lady behind us pack her caravan up ready for the tow truck. She’s done most things, “I even emptied the toilet” she told me proudly! When you’re travelling a lot you get into a little routine of who does what so when the other isn’t around ... read more

Day 177 - Tom Price to Exmouth Poor Tom Price, we haven’t really given it much of a chance to impress with our whistle stop overnighter! From what we can see it’s a nice little place (if a bit pricey in parts!) and the cuisine from the local Chinese restaurant comes highly recommended! The town is surrounded by mines, huge mines and infact the town’s Pilbara Iron mines is one of the biggest in the world. Tom Price was named after an American who in the early 1960’s was a key player in convincing the big companies that it was worth mining here, his theory was later proved by the rich ore deposits found. Iron ore wasn’t all they found in the hills, they also mined asbestos from Wittenoom Gorge which despite being a beautiful place ... read more

14-10-09 Well what a morning, Corey rang at 6.30am & we had a chat to him & then I rang the fishing company to confirm our trip & she said it was on & did we know anyone else that wanted to go. I said I did , but we had no one to mind the dogs. She offered to mind them for the day, so split decision we took it. By this time it was 7.20am, we had not had breaky, I was still in my PJ’s & we had to drop off the dogs & be at the Marina by 7.50am. Poor dogs got chucked in the car, had not even been for a walk to be good girls, got dressed, had a banana for beaky grabbed what we had to & out the ... read more

12-10-09 We left Onslow at 8am , into a headwind. So will be a bit of a slow trip today. We stopped at Nanutarra Roadhouse for petrol $1.56.9 then off again. We turned off at the Exmouth turnoff 166km to go. We arrived at Exmouth at 1.30pm & booked into Ningaloo Caravan Park for $35 a night for 4 nights. Thanks to Brett & Kara we had $80 left on Top tourist gift vouchers, so that helped with the bill. The park is nice, half of it is closed for the season & its not too busy, it has a nice pool & good amenities & it is only one block to the town centre & shopping. We set up & did some washing & I got tea ready to put on & went outside for ... read more

Tuesday was the big day, diving on the Ningaloo Reef! It was a full day trip, with two possible dives, supplied lunch and snorkeling! There was a bit of a problem though. Turned out it was very windy that morning. While waiting to be picked up, we were informed that due to the wind the tour would be delayed, and the itinerary changed. Instead of going to the nearby Muiron islands, we would be diving at Lighthouse Bay. This was supposedly better for diving, but no chance for snorkeling, as the water is too deep. As this was our last chance to dive before moving on, we had to take it. Luckily for us, everything still turned out great! It was a bit chilly on the water, but that was to be expected with the wind. ... read more
