We arrived at Pt Hedland around 11.30am very low on fuel and Warwick filled the car while Marg went to woollies. Rang peter and sue nethery who kindly offered for us to stay at their place for a few days, so after getting the address we arrived there just after lunch. We were made extremely welcome which both Marg and Warwick thought was lovely as Warwick and Peter had worked together and out of the kindness of their hearts they opened up there home for us. We had a wonderful weekend with them and their 2 beautiful daughters Katrina and Tara. Bailey and Chloe have made 2 new friends here as Bailey played ball with Katrina and Tara fell in love with Chloe. So the whole after noon we chatted, that night Peter cooked a ... read more

Today peter and sue gave us a guided tour of Pt Hedland with peter leading the way and adding commentary on the uhf cb. They took us to a little lagoon where the dog and children played. Katrina lost her kite (I mean peter did) as when it was flying the string broke and it landed in the bull rushers or as peter said “ it landed in the middle of a pack of sharks” he looked for it bit it was lost forever. Peter ended up a great tour guide. We decided to take peter and sue and kids out for dinner as a big thank you for their hospitality. We both agree we had a great weekend with a wonderful family, the stories and pictures that they could tell about their travels over ... read more

The girls were sad to see us go not really mainly Bailey and Chloe so on the road again. We stopped at Karratha for lunch and decided to continue on to Robe River (462). It was about 3pm when we got there and it was hot so we decided to go in the river for a bath and cooling down. Today we travelled 372 kms and we are past the ½ mark in distance. Not much to see and still pretty warm (29). Had slack dinner bacon and eggs. ... read more

Went to Karratha and straight to the visitors centre. Asked about a campsite we were told about on the Burrup Peninsula. Not an official campsite we were told. There is an overflow at the Country Club for $15 a night with toilets and showers. We drove out to Burrup Peninsula. There were plenty of campsites right on the beach with no-one else around, but unfortunately Kate is not ready for real bush camping and having to take a shovel and dig a hole for the toilet. So we opted for the Country Club. The showers were hot with good water pressure - very enjoyable to get the red dirt off us. That made up for the dust and wind being out in the open. The first night we had a light sprinkle of rain again. This ... read more

Left Karratha and went into Dampier. It was a nice place. Went into Onslow for a night. On the way out we had a look at the salt pools we had seen yesterday. The sun evaporates the water and leaves the salt behind. We managed to grab a bit of the salt in a block. On the way to Exmouth we saw Variety Club cars driving past. There were lots and lots of them. Each car had a different theme and one had a motorbike on the roof. It as sponsored by a motorbike shop. Stopped at Pebble Beach, just before Exmouth. It is called Pebble Beach because it doesn’t have sand; it has little pebbles all over the beach. One day we went to Jansz Beach, we had a swim. There were a lot of ... read more

Left Karratha after getting more food and drove a long way in to Onslow. The salt pools are at the side of the road everywhere. They fill the pools and the sun evaporates the water and the salt is left behind. I got a bit of salt to keep. At Onslow the sun rises over the water and also sets over the water. It is a narrow piece of land with two beaches. One facing East and one facing West. They have a really long jetty with a conveyor belt on it. It takes the salt from the big piles on the land to the ships at the end of the jetty. The ships then take the salt away. On the way to Exmouth we saw a lot of Variety Club cars. They were all done ... read more

Well if Broome was the place that I saw my first whale in the flesh .... then Exmouth is the place that I saw the MOST whales in the flesh! Yes ... I am in Exmouth. I arrived yesterday afternoon, and after setting up the Thunderbox in the Cape Exmouth Caravan Park (which is very nice I must say), I headed out to the lighthouse for what I expected to be a good vantage point to watch the sunset. I was pleasantly surprised to find that there were bucket loads of humpback whales passing by - alot of them close to shore. So I ended up spending several hours watching, enjoying and taking pics - including some that I have added on here. This morning I woke to find Exmouth overrun by Variety Club Bash vehicles ... read more

Well I thought it it was about time to add another blog. Exmouth has been wicked to us, its a great place so chilled out we don't want to leave. It seems to be that type of place that sucks people in, you talk to people who are like "we were only meant to be here for 3days and that was 3 years ago!" and we know what they mean. We've made a good crew of friends and always heading to the beach for a surf, walk on the sand, or to mess with the hermit crabs as I like to amuse myself doing! John from my work took me and my friend Natalia out snorkeling to the mildura wreck and we saw some amazing things. Sea snakes, turtles, blue starfish, a dugong (google it!) who ... read more

So, since we've been stranded up here it was time to get our serious heads on and find work. Most places we went into were very reluctant to giving backpackers jobs as they usually leave within a week so it didn't look good at first. But, as of now (Monday) we are both employed, yey! We're working for the Pot Shot Hotel Resort, Robs is working in the bottle shop (the off licence) and I'm working in Graces Tavern serving food and drinks, and also doing some housekeeping in the resort itself. It's not perfect but it brings in the money. So, in the mean time there won't be too many blogs until we can move on as all I'd have to report is work, work and more work. With perhaps a bit of snorkeling, cycling ... read more

Alrighty, putting yesterday’s complete disaster behind us we prayed for a better day swimming with the whale sharks, wooooo! It was worth every dollar we paid! First we had a practice snorkel in the open water and I saw a turtle and a manta ray. Then after a few false alarms, some unplayful whale sharks, lots of waiting around, and me having a bit of sea sickness (my first) we saw WHALESHARKS!!!!! Three of them in fact, two smaller ones around 3-4m then one around 7.5m and these are baby ones! After an exciting morning and noon, it was time to eat, mmmmm, and to warm up, the winds made it bloody freezing on the boat! Then it was time to go Humpback whale spotting and we saw loads! A few breached for us, we saw ... read more
