Darryl and Sarah - Wallaby Wanderers

Wallaby Wanderers Welcome, come in, take a seat and enjoy the view!

This is the sort of adventure that our dreams were made of and we find it hard to believe it's a reality at times! Us, travelling Australia and living in a caravan far away from our beautiful little home in the UK! It's only for a year but wow, what a year it will be!

We wanted to have a good reminder of what we're seeing, where we've been and the people we're meeting along the way and this travel blog is it! Our daily diary of life on the road where most days start with a different view out of the window and end with a whole load more memories.

Join us if you like as we bumble around looking for new places to explore and if you have the time to say hello on the road or via the blog then we'd love to hear from you!

Check out where we're planning to be month to month using our google maps! Australia and New Zealand

Day 207 - Kalbarri Shivers, the weather is still a bit on the bleak side! Well we didn’t save all that money to come over here and sit in the caravan because it’s a bit windy and wet, we could have done that staying in England for half the price! We had a good catch up on our friends Kangaroojack’s blog and are a bit wow’d with what they are seeing and experiencing at the farm in Woodstock. It’s all amazing and a sensational experience. The photographs are beautiful of the harvest but what with fires, tractors and things that don’t [View Full Entry]

Day 206 - Kalbarri Our birthday shout out this morning is in two bites! Firstly to Aunty Barb in Tewkesbury, Happy Birthday my lovely, we hope you have a beautiful day and enjoy the Tarran Gray concert at the club. Secondly to Oz (Brown), are all your birthday presents associated with the new drag car? You lucky lady you!! Hope you have a lovely day Oz! The time has come for us to have the car serviced again. We’ve completed 28 073 kms on our journey so far and we try to service the car every 10’000 kms or so figuring [View Full Entry]

Open wide
Greetings, I am here to represent my people!
Stretching for a fish to beat the seagulls

Day 205 - Kalbarri Ever had a ‘nightmare’ that you have recollection of? Well that’s what happened to me this morning! When I opened my eyes and said good morning to Darryl he responded with “Are you alright after your midnight crocodile attack?” Apparently I’d sat upright, lifted the quilt and was looking at my feet yelling “No, No”!! This was all news to me and I’ve got no idea what prompted it, as far as I was concerned I’d had a good nights sleep. Maybe Darryl was dreaming! We treated ourselves to a quick breakfast this [View Full Entry]

Day 204 - Kalbarri "Alright Shag, Happy Birthday" would be the message we would normally send to Mark Hartnell today! Well, in fairness it's not normally sent on his actual birthday because we always forget but today whilst we're half way around the world we've remembered! Happy Birthday mate, hope you have a great day! Who would have thought that being camped by a river would be noisy - fishermen start early apparently! The roar of the motors woke me up at some ungodly hour and then my fidgeting (apparently!) woke Darryl up soon after. Whoops! We wanted an early start [View Full Entry]

I have a mysterious liking for dead trees!

Well we just love this place

Thanks to Tez for sending this through to us, kind of puts things in perspective regarding how far we've come and how much we've got left to do!
Day 203 - Galena Bridge to Kalbarri We wake from a good nights sleep beside the river and again we’re not in a terrible rush this morning so potter around a bit before moving on. We start with a bit of reading! Dar’s been reading the “Down Under” book by Bill Bryson, it’s really very funny and covers a lot of the places that we’ve either been to already or are travelling too soon. I’m still battling through “Lace Reader” the book given to me by Bel (of the Elliotts) which at page 117 is finally engaging my imagination, it’s take [View Full Entry]

Day 202 - Denham to Galena Bridge (Murchison River) Somebody has stolen the ocean! We wake up to find the lowest of low tides this morning, quite incredible really considering that part way through the night I made Darryl get up and check that we didn’t have water lapping at the caravan door because it sounded so close! Yet again with such beauty surrounding us we have to question why humans think it acceptable to leave rubbish strewn about the place when they leave. Glass bottles, plastic containers and all manner of toilet associated items, all easily cleared into a refuse [View Full Entry]

Day 201 - Near Denham Happy Birthday Mark ‘Mush / Shag’ Coulsell! We hope you have a fabulous day and that Mrs Coulsell brings you all your heart desires, or at the very least she doesn’t bring you a mouldy bread bacon sandwich! Happy Birthday mate, lots of love from both of us x It hadn’t really crossed our minds about how high the tide would come through the night, we must have just assumed that despite our relative closeness to the shoreline that we were safe enough and luckily we were! Higher deposits of the sea grass proved that we [View Full Entry]

Day 200 - Denham to Whalebone, Shark Bay Our alarm went off early this morning, we’d set it deliberately as we wanted to be able to get some more blogs uploaded before we left the caravan park for a bit more free camping. Each time I do this task early in the morning we inevitably get to catch up with Ed as he’s always up really late back home! It works very well and this morning was no exception. Thanks for the shout out Ed, always great to catch up with you. With the wind having dropped overnight we were presented [View Full Entry]

Day 199 - Denham, Shark Bay It was an early rise for us this morning as we wanted to phone home to check all had gone well with Dad K’s ‘super stent’ op. We got up at 5am figuring that would be 9pm in the UK and got quite a shock when Mum told us Dad was with her in the hotel in Bristol. Turns out the doctors have decided Dad needs to be super bionic instead of just plain ‘super’ and as such Dad is to have a heart bypass sometime in the next 2 months. All pretty worrying stuff [View Full Entry]

Day 198 - Gladstone Scenic Lookout - Denham Nikita Howells, come on down, you’re 18 today! OMG! That’s like so amazing! Happy Birthday chick, we’re very sorry that we’re not available to be the drunken Aunty and Uncle at the party but there will be plenty of others around to take our place! Ha ha! Hope you have a fabulous day. What happened to the wind?! Not long after ‘lights out’ it just disappeared completely! Not that we’re complaining, we got a great nights sleep but it was just a bit of a surprise considering we were parked on [View Full Entry]

The highway was busy this morning with at least three vehicles in one 5 minute period!
Look closely for the Emus! They were a long way down!
