Darryl and Sarah - Wallaby Wanderers

Wallaby Wanderers Welcome, come in, take a seat and enjoy the view!

This is the sort of adventure that our dreams were made of and we find it hard to believe it's a reality at times! Us, travelling Australia and living in a caravan far away from our beautiful little home in the UK! It's only for a year but wow, what a year it will be!

We wanted to have a good reminder of what we're seeing, where we've been and the people we're meeting along the way and this travel blog is it! Our daily diary of life on the road where most days start with a different view out of the window and end with a whole load more memories.

Join us if you like as we bumble around looking for new places to explore and if you have the time to say hello on the road or via the blog then we'd love to hear from you!

Check out where we're planning to be month to month using our google maps! Australia and New Zealand

Day 305 - Travelling down the West Coast from Marawah to Waratah Aches and pains this morning! We clearly need educating about where to set our tent up, ie not on the only lump for miles around, have we learned nothing over the last 10 months?! The rest of the campers were sleeping soundly while we packed up and left just before 7am. If you’re intending to visit Marawah then Green Point is a great spot and rumour has it a very good nature tour is run from here, one that takes you to watch Tassie Devils in the wild. We [View Full Entry]

Day 304 - Queenstown to Waratah to Marrawah We were supposed to be leaving ‘bright and early’ this morning but at 10.30am I still hadn’t had a shower! Hmmmm! The weather was again very misty to start with, hopefully it wouldn’t take too long to clear as Tony & Jane are off on their train trip this morning. We said goodbye to them and wished them a fabulous time, we’ll meet up again at Cradle Mountain on Friday morning. For the next couple of days we would be travelling on our own through the west coast of Tasmania without the caravan. [View Full Entry]

Day 303 - Queenstown After an amazing amount of rain throughout the night, we wake up to a very dim, grey, misty looking morning. If the locals are right then it’s going to stay like this for the rest of the day but if they’re wrong, well who knows when the sun will return but we’re keeping our fingers crossed that it’s by early afternoon at the latest! We’re booked onto a Gordon River cruise later today, despite us not doing many tours this is just one of those little treats we’ve been told we really shouldn’t miss. Plus of course [View Full Entry]

Day 302 - Hobart to Queenstown It was our last chance of a shower in the fancy water tanks this morning before getting back on the road and heading for another new destination. There’s a 90% chance of rain in Queenstown today which is where we’ve booked our caravan pitch for tonight. It’s been difficult to figure out any free camping for this section of the trip as the sites aren’t very well placed for the things we want to do. We were right on time with everything going to plan when we hit the highway just gone 8.30am, but what’s [View Full Entry]

Day 301 - Day trip to South Bruny Island from Hobart Call the police, there’s been a crime committed; one of my socks has gone missing! You take them to the laundry, get them washed, put them on the clothes line to dry, change your mind and bundle everything into the tumble drier because it looks like rain, get all your dry and warm clothes back to the caravan and then find you’re missing a sock. Devastating! Get some wood Sarah …. build a bridge! The blogs are getting a bit behind now, we knew we’d struggle to keep up and [View Full Entry]

Day 300 - Hobart A couple of birthday shout outs this morning, firstly to my fabo cousin Bert out here in Aus. Happy birthday little cous, hope you had a great day with Kim. The second shout is to Harry (Brown) of Thatadoo Racing back home in Thatcham. Hope you're back on the track soon buddy and we'll see you when we get back. Happy Birthday both! Got to admit we were a bit weary this morning after our big day trip to Port Arthur. I must have been half asleep when Darryl left the caravan to visit the water tanks [View Full Entry]

Day 299 - Day trip to Port Arthur from Hobart Well we can’t be accused of sitting around doing nothing can we! It was another early start this morning so after a quick shower in the water tank amenities we were off towards Port Arthur. The drive is just over an hour and the journey is easy in the early morning with little traffic on the roads. Port Arthur is a place steeped in history, a convict prison from the 1800’s which has always created curiosity for tourists even in the early days. Sadly it was also the scene of a [View Full Entry]

Day 298 - Coles Bay to Hobart We have a Happy Birthday wish to deliver to a lovely lady back home in Bristol, Norfy it’s you! Our lovely Lisa is celebrating today. Happy Birthday chick, see you soon for a good ol knees up! Lots of love from both of us x x . Once we’d decided to have a go at a day trip to Port Arthur from Hobart rather than staying in Port Arthur itself, the only other thing we needed to sort out was where to stay. There are no free campsites around the city, the Showground is [View Full Entry]

Day 297 - Coles Bay We would like to wish our lovely Uncle David a Happy Birthday today. You’re a gem Uncle David and we hope you have a great day. Love from both of us x x What a beautiful morning to wake up to, clear and bright and just what we’d ordered! A chap camped behind Tony & Jane came over last night for a chat and to give us some walking instructions which included the ‘fact’ that Freycinet national park didn’t open its gates until 8am. We thought it strange but didn’t argue and were happy to use [View Full Entry]

Happy Birthday, sorry we’re not there to help you see out another year but we’ll have a belated session when we get back! See you soon! Lots of love from both of us x x Hurrah, its moving day! We should be used to it by now, it’s happening every two days for the foreseeable future. We were all packed up for an 8am departure from Moulting Bay so we left just ahead of Tony [View Full Entry]
