12-10-09 We left Onslow at 8am , into a headwind. So will be a bit of a slow trip today. We stopped at Nanutarra Roadhouse for petrol $1.56.9 then off again. We turned off at the Exmouth turnoff 166km to go. We arrived at Exmouth at 1.30pm & booked into Ningaloo Caravan Park for $35 a night for 4 nights. Thanks to Brett & Kara we had $80 left on Top tourist gift vouchers, so that helped with the bill. The park is nice, half of it is closed for the season & its not too busy, it has a nice pool & good amenities & it is only one block to the town centre & shopping. We set up & did some washing & I got tea ready to put on & went outside for a drink, Den went over to the Tourist Info Centre across the road to get some maps of the area etc. I started tea & then before we knew it we , we were talking to the people at the back & next thing there was 10 of us having happy hour, tea went out the window & we had a great night. I came
home & got tea & as soon as it was over I was in bed. Den washed up & had an early night too. We did 400 km today, we are over 20,000 km’s . I was awake at 1am & up for 3 hours, still itching. It was 32 deg today but does not feel like it.
13-10-09 We were up & left to do some sight seeing , first stop info centre to book Den into a full days fishing trip on a boat for tomorrow. Thanks everyone for Dens birthday money that’s how he spent it. We then went to Bundegi Beach on the east side that was just past the Naval Base. It was a communications base between the USA & Aus, it is now run by Australia, it had communication towers everywhere, amazing. The beach was nice but it was very windy so a bit choppy , & low tide. Next was off to see the SS Mildura Wreck off the point. We then went to the Surfers Beach, not like Wollongong Beaches, as Exmouth has Coral Reefs nearly off every beach. From there we went to Vlamingh Head Lighthouse to see the view.
You could see the Gas Drill Offshore Rigs that were little specks in the distance. There were helicopters flying out there all the time. You could see 360 deg & the coastline was great, there are lots of sand dunes around the beaches so that they are not visible from the roads & you have to drive into them. So we went to a few of the beaches to have a look, the Jurabi Turtle Centre , Mauritius Beach ( the nudist beach & no we didn’t). We went down to Tantabiddi Boat Ramp , it was nice, it looked up to Jurabi Point. We then went to look at Yardie Caravan Park, it was OK but a long way out. We had already done 60km from town as it was. We were just bordering on Cape Range National Park & we had to get a permit , so we will go back & do it on Thursday. We headed back to town & then went to the Marina & it was nice, it looks very new & near the Novatel Resort. You should see the new development that is going on, house blocks that all the back on to
canals, with huge walking bridges, will be very posh when finished. We then went on to Town Beach & we 4 wheel drove up the beach, took the girls for a swim & had a sun bake, they had been so good they were in the car all day. After that we went further down the east coast to see the Shothole Canyon , where you drive around the base of the canyon, it was nice. We then stopped to get fresh prawns from the Exmouth Fish Co, they have 15 trawlers & export 1 million kl’s of prawns in the prawning season. We then headed to Charles Knife Gorge where we drove on the rim of the canyon, they are both worth a look if you ever get up to Exmouth. We went to the Thomas Carter Lookout with the roughest road into it, but we did it. We had to get some supplies for Den for tomorrow for his fishing trip, that done we headed for home, it had been a long day & we had not had lunch. I hopped in a shower & Den went over to the neighbours as they had started happy hour without
us. We called it quits early tonight & came home & enjoyed our prawns . I caught up on my diary & the photos & Den had an early night to get up his stamina for the fishing trip. Alls good, I am staying home with the girls tomorrow & having a day to myself. 34 deg today. But with the sea breeze you don’t notice it. Sorry 2 pages of photos
