Cobb and Co 4 - Michelle and Dennis Shaw

Michelle and Dennis Shaw Let us introduce ourselves, My name is Michelle & my hubby’s name is Dennis & we are both 50 something, (not telling exactly). We have two grown up sons both married to great girls & they live in the country so we don’t see them much. We have 3 Beautiful grandkids & 1 beautiful Great Grandchild, 2 weeks old & we have not seen him yet ( we are known as GG’s ) . We are heading up to see everyone before we leave on our trip. We decided to go around Aus while our health was still good . We were supposed to go last year but after a few health issues with Dennis we had to put off our trip. Well he is fighting fit now & we decided that the time was right , we sold the house & we are taking our two Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Dogs, Annie 10 & Jessie 8 , mother & daughter with us. We hope to get a bit of work along the way , Dennis is a fitter & turner & I am a florist & hairdresser, so between us we should be able to pack shelves somewhere to earn a crust ( ha ha ). We are travelling in a 2002 Land cruiser gas & petrol, & a 2004 Jayco 21’ heritage caravan with ensuite & plan to do a bit of free camping where we can. Dennis has also bought a Hobbie outfitter kayak for fun, recreation & fishing, its his pride & joy, we hope to have some good times in it, but we wont put it into the Darwin river, we don’t want to be croc bait.

22-11-09 Den headed off to the V8’s & he had a great day seeing Craig Lowndes win his race. (go the Fords) The track is about 70 km away & he had a bit of trouble finding it, but after a few wrong turns he made it. It is warmer today, about 25 deg, so I decided to clean the van & then after lunch I had a rest in the sun & then worked on the computer for a while until Den got home, a pretty quiet day . Merry text me & we arranged to Skype each other later, [View Full Entry]

17/11/09 Left Jurien Bay & filled up with gas on the way 87 cents, the scenery was beautiful with lots of wildflowers to see. I nearly took your advice Margy & pulled on the handbrake so I could take more photo’s . To be fair to Den though, it was too hard to pull the van off the road in a hurry, so as soon as he could find a spot he pulled over. I was so engrossed in taking the pics I did not see this badly decomposed Emu (poor thing) & Den says there’s a head & neck there [View Full Entry]

15-11-09 Happy Birthday Lissy, Started off with a market this morning at Greenough in front of the Caravan Park, so I had a look at it & Den finished hooking up the car (he really wanted to traipse around a market). We were still on the way at 8.30, which I surprised den. W stopped in at Dongara - Port Dennison a pretty little fishing village known for its fishing & Western Rock Lobsters. The foreshore was beautiful, with all the boats in the harbour & the colour of the water just keeps changing. Off again & further down the coast [View Full Entry]

9-11-09 Well off to Geraldton today with a list a mile long. First was the Info centre to find out where things are & what to see. We then went to the Laundromat & had a coffee while we waited. We then went & had the stone chip in the windscreen fixed , only $65 at Novus , Last time it was $115 at Windscreen O’Brien’s, what a difference. Den then dropped me off to do the groceries & he went & booked the car in to get air bags fitted to the springs - the arse end of the car [View Full Entry]

A sleepy little fishing haven with a beautiful beach & a Lake known as The Pink lake. We had a cup of coffee at a lookout & no joke the lake went from Pink , to blue, to green , amazing. The Pink colour comes from Bacteria that provides a rich source [View Full Entry]

2-11-09 Well Kalbarri is beautiful, the wildflowers are amazing, we are on the tail end of them. There are over 800 species in the area, I must have photographed 50 of them, I would love to be here in July, August to see most of them. Den stopped so I could photograph a few of them & I was just in heaven, being a florist I was just in awe. We booked into the Top Tourist Caravan Park ($27 a night) opposite the main beach . We then washed, cleaned the van & went shopping, groceries very expensive, beans $17 a [View Full Entry]

30-10-09 Continued - We headed down the road 27 km to 423 WA Fowlers camp & got a camp right on the waters edge, you know its hard having a different backyard every night but someone has to do it. After we set up, we had a late lunch & I had a lay down, my back was a bit sore & Den went for a walk. Before I laid down he was collecting little rocks & I wondered what he was doing, when I got up I found out. A lot of places we have gone we have noticed & [View Full Entry]

30-10-09 Up & packed up & left the girls in the van (not happy as everything packed ready to go & we went & left them) & down at the info centre to get our permit for Fowlers Camp. The day was sunny & not as windy today, about 26deg. We were at the Quad Bikes by 9.45am & we got set up with helmets & goggles, not a good look but who cares. By the time I got the helmet off after 3 hours I would be having a bad hair day too. I was a little nervous when he [View Full Entry]
