Perth Our last day in this lovely city. We got back on the bus down into town and walked down to the Jetty to see what trips were going - and booked ourselves on a lunch cruise up the Swan River to a Winery for wine tasting. This gave us 2 hours to spare so we took the free blue cat bus to the closest stop for King’s Park. The bus stopped right outside the hotel that Dave Taylor and I stayed in 16 years ago! Sullivans -and it doesn’t look like it has been painted since! We climbed the 242 [View Full Entry]

Kalbarri - Perth Got the camera - less functions than the old one and twice the price - but hopefully it won’t keep breaking down! On route to Perth we stopped at the Pinnacles National Park - acres of desert sand with these variously shaped pointy rocks. They are not sure what formed them but we favour the theory that they are calcified tree trunks. They are very entertaining, almost as much as the devil’s marbles. We took lots of photos with the new camera. Arrived at the campsite in Perth to find it fully booked. (it is a very small [View Full Entry]

Exmouth - Kalbarri Exmouth - a lovely little town. ‘We catch what we sell’ was the slogan for the fish company with the big prawn. We purchased rather too many tiger prawns and sat on the beach watching whales breeching whilst we scoffed them - does life get any better than this? Nice campsite in town, good restaurants (well 2 restaurants and we frequented both of them, and they were both good. 2 hairdressers - but a 3 week waiting list for a haircut! Great hospital where I was able to get a prescription for some pills for my swollen feet. [View Full Entry]

Broome- Exmouth We went to the deckchair cinema at Broome and saw a film with Paul Hogan - It was a road trip from Victoria to Cape York and they went to loads of places that we had been - they even got their fruit taken away at the fruit fly zone, just like we did! We went on a tour of the Willie Creek Pearl Farm where they taught us all about oysters and how to get great pearls from them)(makes your eyes water, and rather put me off pearls to be honest) - but it was quite interesting! Darwin to Broome Darwin was a bit of a disappointment. Most of it had been flattened by the typhoon in 1974 and this had given them the opportunity (you would have thought) to build some nice buildings when they rebuilt it - but they didn’t. The Parliament building was quite nice, but nothing else was. We spent the afternoon there and most of the next day, then headed out to Lichfield National Park to spend some time with the Magnetic Termites (they build their mounds north-south so they are flat and look like tombstones ). We then went for a dip [View Full Entry]

Alice Springs to Kakadu. First stop was Wycliffe Well - the UFO Capital of Australia. Even the barmaid had seen about 40 UFOs in the 4 months she had been there. Most with rows of blue and red lights. The road is on a bit of an embankment, making it about 30ft above the campsite and roadhouse. Interestingly, most road trains seem to support red and blue lights along their sides at night -I wonder if this is significant! Needless to say, we didn’t have a ‘close encounter’ - but the signs and models etc were a bit of fun. Next [View Full Entry]

Monbulk, Victoria to Alice Springs. We left Heathrow Tuesday evening and arrived at Belgrave Station in the Blue Dandenongs, North East of Melbourne, Thursday Lunchtime. The weather was actually colder than at home, sunny, but with a distinct chill in the air. Debbie was there to meet us and took us back to their place in Monbulk, where Syd the camper was waiting for us. We spent Friday getting a few bits (puncture repair kit, toaster, new fridge (which we didn’t really need as Deb & Ian were happy for us to use theirs - but we have put on them [View Full Entry]

Hi Everyone - just a heads-up to let you know that we are off again on our Great Australian Adventure. We leave on 29th September and will be back on 12th December - just in time for Christmas Shopping - Oh Joy! This time, the plan is to go North to Darwin, have a look around Kakadu and then head West via Broome to Perth, and then back along the South Coast to Adelaide and Melbourne, taking in our friends on the way. It's a long, long way, but we expect most of the time will be sitting in the van [View Full Entry]
