I arrived in Adelaide today, and the city's tempo is definitely different than those of Sydney and Melbourne. I like it, and I think I really needed it after all the running around in the big cities. This city is charming and there is no need to rush anywhere. Downtown consists of a huge grid that makes it virtually impossible to get lost. I am staying at the YHA downtown. The main strip is Rundle mall and I spent many hours there just wondering around the crowds and even managed to get a much needed haircut!! I visited Glenelg beach with my relatives on a windy day so I did not go in the water. I ended up spending a few days in the burbs with my relatives which gave me a different perspective of the ... read more

Apologies for the tardiness of my latest blog, but have been soo busy hobbling round on crutches and being generally disabled, that it has taken a considerable amount of time out of my life!! I have had to undergo several sessions of physio, which has now, thankfully, resulted in me being able to walk normally (or march, as some of you may wish to comment!!), but nevertheless, I am without sticks. It is an immense relief. Still need some physio but can now actually do more stuff that I want to do, rather than having to do. Christmas was lovely but involved far too much food. The chinese really know how to make a buffet!! I'm sorry to say that the few things I wanted to do in Hk, I was unable to do...ie walk up ... read more

After all my hard work trying and many hours of fish on this trip the hard work has finally paid off with a major catch. I caught my big fish at a nice little place called Coffin Bay. Coffin Bay is one of the main oyster farming areas around Australia and it has a massive inlet where it is constantly flat. So when i through my line in not expecting much i pulled up this monster fish. I did not eat it but instead i was thinking of putting it on a mantle piece. Well now that i broke the streak of not catching fish i think the futur is looking good.... read more

Just a quick entry...... With our time now rapidly running down to zero we headed up the SE coast of South australia, visited Mt Gambier and the infamous volcanic lakes, camped in the Coorong and headed straight up to Adelaide where we stayed with some friends. Conveniently we house sat their house for a few days and looked after their dogs whilst they went away over the Xmas period. So we didnt slum it for Xmas! Had a nice quiet Xmas and a good roast dinner and a couple of walks along the beach with the dogs - kids definately enjoyed running up and down the beach with the dogs. The long drive across the nullabor had to begin so we left Adelaide on the 28th taking a couple of days to get across camping just ... read more

After 8 weeks of travelling we reached our 'half way' point! Due to visa conditions we had to pop into Australia so that we could 'activate' our visa so we had a little 10 day break planned which was very nice. Over the 8 weeks we have had brilliant fun and met loads of people that we have travelled, eaten and drunk with which has made it really enjoyable. Being in Adelaide for 10 days was nice though as we had a nice big comfy bed for the whole time and the comfort of knowing we could eat pretty much whatever we want without having to face rice or noodles!!! We stayed with Niks mum and step dad, and Niks brother and his friend were there so we had a blast whilst we were there. We ... read more

Introduction The hikers are normally silent over summer as SA is way too hot to walk - so this year we headed off down South - to Tasmania. Peter decided to drive - which meant we had an opportunity to catch up with Tom and Kate in Mount Gambier and also visited their family at Beachport. If you want to read more about our Tasmania holiday then you should have a look at this web site My Tassie journey. Mt Gambier walk I got up early in the morning and walked from the Presidential Hotel towards Mount Gambier. I went past quite a few tree processing factories and through a sinkhole that had been converted into a cricket ground, before making my way up onto the ridge of the volcano. On the highest point of this ... read more

Well as you can imagine we were well hung over, but we hit the road early to headed towards the Great Ocean road. We had been looking forward to this day for ages. We drove foe about 3 hours before ariving at the Tweleve Aposoles, we parked up the car and dragged our butts under a tunnel to gain a better view. It was swamped with flies all they wanted to do was to fly into my ears, drove me mad, we did not stay for long. We stopped at the shop and stocked up on liquid refreshments, and hit the road this part was quite enjoyable as the drive was mostly along the caost. We did not even bother to stop in Victoria, we just kept driving got our heads down in a cheep on ... read more

Moving on from GolGol (Mildura) we had a long days drive. We stopped in Berri and bought fruit juice at the famous factory, had lunch in Waikery watching the ferry crossing the Murray River taking cars and trucks across. Trevor joked that he would tie Bazil up and leave him there but he got a bit of his own medicine. We were heading for the outskirts of Adelaide but did not think it necessary to book ahead as at this time of the year the campsites are not busy. By the time we did ring we found that the only park in the area that would accept dogs was full. A slight panic set in, and we took a wrong turning and got lost but after gathering our thoughts and referring back to our campsite book ... read more

Christmas Eve After a night at Annies Place, (most of it spent on the internet catching up with family) we headed for "Wicked Campers", to pick up our camper van. This would be our mode of transport and home for the next 5 weeks. Over the last few weeks we had been debating what we would end up with. I was hoping for something a bit rock-n-roll and Skim wanted the bonking pigs, after she'd seen it in one of the blogs. But what did we get..... Harry (bleeding) Potter Well I was gob smacked to say the least and Skim fell about laughing..... How the hell am I going to hold my head up high driving this thing? We had no option but to drive it away. With head between my knees, I drove away......... ... read more
