This has been an incredible journey beyond all expectations! By the time I made back to Sydney, I felt great satisfaction of having seen so much of this beautiful and diverse country, but on the other hand, I was painfully sad at the prospect of my trip coming to an end. I looked back at the pics and notes from when I first started my trip, and Sydney was no longer intimidating. There was no more getting lost or trying to figure out what to do and how to get there. Back in Sydney after 5 weeks of travel, I was a pretty exhausted from the non-stop running around. The fact that I often did not even feel like getting out of the dorm was a clear sign that I was a bit burned out. I ... read more

My last week in Sydney I took advantage of the weather while it was good. Tuesday and Wednesday I spent at Manley Beach. For anyone going to Sydney taking the Manly Ferry is a must. You get to see the Harbour in its entirety. It is absolutely beautiful. while on the ferry I tried to imagine what would Captain Cook and his crew most have thought when they first entered it. I tried to picture it as it must have been back then, just water and vegetation. It must have been a great sight. It still is I must say. Manly beach is awesome. The whole area is very picturesque with its cafes, restaurants, shops, pubs, and great for people watching. The beach is great for swimming, though one always has to swim between the flags. ... read more

Ok, so here is the story. I went to the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art to see an Andy Warhol exhibit which btw was awesome! Then I decided to check out the rest of the museum and low and behold I came across this atrocity. The author of the work is Pierre Bismuth and the title of the work is" People who I don't know who remind me of people you don't know' which is an interesting title. The work consists of random pictures of people. Take a guess whose pic was smack right in the middle of the work? Ty Domi's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When I saw this I started to laughing and shaking my head and people around wondered what was wrong with me. Anyway, can you believe that? Ty Domi in in the QGOMA? Now I ... read more

I have been in Brisbane for the last two weeks and just can't get enough of this city. It is really beautiful, nice tempo and it is full of things to do and see. The weather is also very nice though it can get very humid at times. I guess part of the reason why I have stayed here so long is that I was also a bit out of juice. I have been recharging my batteries (well, not really). This coming up weekend, Jan 26, is also Australia day and there have events happening all over the city. I am staying at a part of town call gratitude valley and it is the epicenter of all the action. Needless to say it's been a lot of fun. The city itself is beautiful. It is full ... read more

Alice Springs is a city right in the middle of Australia and the starting point for most travelers going into the outback. This city is the heart of nowhere and as far as you can get from anywhere. As one English bloke put it: "This is the furthest I have ever been from the ocean'. In this city, the heat can be unbearable. Hotels and hostels have swimming pools where you can chill and cool off during the day. I found that most people in my hostel stayed in their dorms (equipped with AC) for most of the daytime and would only come out early in the evening. As a matter of fact, the whole city pretty much operates the same way. At night, everyone leaves their shelters and hit the bars, pubs, and restaurants in ... read more

I arrived in Alice on Friday January 11th and booked a tour to spend the weekend in the outback. One of the first places I visited in Alice was the reptile centre where you get to pet and hold some of the reptiles there. In the pic I am holding an olive python named Oli. He is found in the northern part of Queensland. He seemed to like me! One of the first things that stroke me was the complete desolation out in the outback. you can drive for hundreds of kms and not see a car. The first day we did a 6 km hike that took us three and a half hours because it was 44 degrees in the shade. Someone asked the guide why we were doing a hike in the middle of ... read more

I arrived in Adelaide today, and the city's tempo is definitely different than those of Sydney and Melbourne. I like it, and I think I really needed it after all the running around in the big cities. This city is charming and there is no need to rush anywhere. Downtown consists of a huge grid that makes it virtually impossible to get lost. I am staying at the YHA downtown. The main strip is Rundle mall and I spent many hours there just wondering around the crowds and even managed to get a much needed haircut!! I visited Glenelg beach with my relatives on a windy day so I did not go in the water. I ended up spending a few days in the burbs with my relatives which gave me a different perspective of the ... read more

So I left Sydney on January 2nd on an overnight bus to Melbourne city. I arrived at 6 am and headed to St. Kilda base backpackers hostel. This neighborhood is about 20 mins. away from Melbourne but it is right on the beach. I spent the next three days there exploring the city. Melbourne is absolutely a gem. I love it. There are nice coffee houses with the best lattes and pastry that I've had for a long time. The downtown core is buzzing with shops, trams, shoppers, cafes, and a nice wine bars. I had the opportunity of going up the Eureka tower, the tallest building in the southern hemisphere, 88 floors. From there the view was spectacular!!! Melbourne is also a stop in the tennis grand slam which will start the second week of ... read more

Ok, so these are some of the pic that I took on NYE. People starting queuing up in early in the morning to get the best spots to watch the fireworks. I know people in the hostel that left at 8 am to go to a bar across the Harbour and they were going to wait and sit there all day. The most coveted spot in the city is the botanical gardens where you can see the opera house, bridge and the whole Harbour. But people started comping out the night before just to be let into the gardens. The Harbour area was just madness that day. I resigned myself not to have the best seat in the house because I refused to waist a whole day for the half an hour fireworks show. So I ... read more
