Hello again and thanks for returning. Thanks to all those who made it to the fundraising dinner on the 16th. We raised over 1000 dollars on the night for the two charities: Carry for Kids and RSI Action (more on these another time), and further donations have been ongoing. (We hope to get an online donation system up and running soon). It was great to see so many of you there to wish us well. We hope you enjoyed the evening and the perfect weather. We were pleased to see enough people to hoover the pig and lamb up, but we still had some deserts left at the end of the night! Sorry for the maps blowing down - i have now created a small map to indicate the route incase you didn't get to see ... read more

After a day looking round the city I thought it might be nice to get out into the country side, and why not kill two birds with one stone by taking in a wine tour. Edith being such a wine lover was really up for it so we set off at 9am for a full day trip. First stop in the Barossa Valley was the Wolf Blass winery. Tried about 8 different wines including an extra special one which we had to pay a further $5 to try as it cost $200 a bottle. Shortly after that we went for dinner so I decided to try Kangaroo again. Quite like it now but it is a bit more chewy than steak. After dinner we set off to a further 4 vineyards, I had been determined all ... read more

Flew to Adelaide for a few days to have a look round. Found it allot more laid back than the other city's I visited on the east coast. I suppose that’s one of things I liked about it the most that it wasn't as busy as the other places I’ve been to. Took a few pictures of the city centre the botanical gardens and the adelaide oval for you to look at. Going to the Barossa Valley tomorrow to do a wine tour, Yay......... read more

G'day mate, After all the tasting in the Barossa valley, we didn't get on the road until after lunchtime. We drove for what seemed like weeks on this road, to get to the town of Robe, which was meant to be quite quaint and old fashioned. The roads are long with just dry, almost desert land either side of you, they just go on and on. There's just nothing. Ocassionaly you would see a kangaroo sign (or a dead one), or koala or possom sign even, but thats about ti they just have so much space. After 6 hours we arrived in Robe. It was pretty with our campsite write next to a lake. It was late so we just cooked up some pasta on our stove. we are getting quite used to our camper now, ... read more

G'day mate, We headed up to the Barossa Valley as Rob was feeling a little better. We started in an area called Tanunda where you bought wine passes for $99. This entitled 2 people to go to all the vineyards, collect 6 bottles of wine to the value of $20-$25 a bottle and lots of tastings! We started at Jacobs Creek which was pretty cool and very modern. We tasted many different wines, it's a really good idea because you get to try loads of different types of wines you normally wouldn't, as you're not wasting any money. Obviously if you don't want too much, you can poor it away and if you didn't i think after the first place you would be hammered. From here i got a late picked riesling which is sweeter than ... read more

Well it has warmed up a bit since our last blog, in fact I think it hit 40 degrees yesterday - a bit too hot for us Wellingtonians! We enjoyed our last port of call, Streaky Bay, very much - had 5 days there - until the wind drove us onwards! And they say Wellington is windy…. Streaky Bay was named by the explorer Matthew Flinders because of the colours of the water. We spend some time trying to catch crabs off the jetty with no success, but we went out to gather razor fish a couple of times, these are shellfish you pull from the water at low tide, and taste a bit like a scallop or calamari - rather nice in egg and breadcrumbs. The shells are very sharp so you need to wear ... read more

The Exeter pub, in trendy Rundle St, which is a hangout for yuppies and artists during the day and ...oh so cool... students anytime, has some of the tastiest house reds by the glass in Adelaide. And when you daydream about Paris, you can stare at the empty and dusty bottles of Bollinger that line the top shelf above the front bar. If like me, you have been a graduate student, scribbling and watching every penny, and then spending blindly on beer or booze, when the angst of writing a thesis gets to you, you need to shop around for a tasty wine and place to relax. It is best to stick to wine if you are visiting though, as I did meet a date at the Exeter, and got a little piqued, she was already ... read more

G'day mate, As our flight left late in the evening in Bali and the time difference was 3 hours, so we ended up not really having much sleep so when we finally arrived in Adelaide in oz we were shattered. However, our first impressions were really good. Even at the airport everyone spoke asking where we were off to and have a nice time. They are all so friendly. Our first task was to get ourself a campervan for the next day. We went direct to 2 companies near the airport who are popular called Britz and Maui. However they were more expensive than the quotes we got online a few months back. We really did think it would be cheaper than online, they only had 1 van aswell and it was a bit crap to ... read more

Ah! the Mighty Murray River. 36degrees. Bright sunshine - all day. Willy willys. Dust and flies. We left the peaceful and clear waters of the Murray headwaters and headed further westward. Hume Weir is very low. Picked up some fuel and groceries (no fruit - they shoot ya if ya carry fruit around here) in Wodonga. Stayed on the banks of the Murray in Barmah State Park. Swam, caught shrimp and fished all day. Sandy banks and clearish water. The River Red Gums just drop huge branches without any warning. Wednesday 13th Feb. Headed off again towards Nyah State Forest, you guessed it, on the banks of the Murray. Camped overnight and fished some more. Stopped where the Murray and Murrumbidge Rivers meet. Very peaceful, some fish, murky water and our very own sandy beach again. ... read more
