Bucket Billabong in Kakadu N.P. proved to be a challenge for me when it came to catching Barramundi. Leonie didn't seem to have many problems getting a 'keeper' each day. She was even catching them and giving fish to other campers. We outstayed Sal, Mark, PK and Kim. They all retreated to the deserted island off the Kimberley Coast. Ken, Aloha, Bungy and Doreen arrived to try their hand at Bucket Barramundi. Enough of the fresh-water fishing lets go to Channel Point on the west side of Litchfield National Park for some salt-water action. We also obtained a permit to enter [View Full Entry]

Let's head North. Day 12.Left Adelaide after visiting BCF and picking up my new rod and reel courtesy of the Staff of the Rehab Ward at Newcastle Private Hospital. It was nice to leave the rainy, windy cold weather behind and head north through Port Awful (Port Augusta). Bush camp south of Coober Pedy after a day of head-winds. Bush-camp again this time near a bore off the Stuart Highway close to the Woomera Prohibited Area. The new OziExplorer software and Hema maps are helping to find these great isolated camp spots. Passed through Stuarts Well to take a photo. Then [View Full Entry]

Hi, the adventure continues. We are off again. The Plan:- To head north and not experience winter and to have a wonderful time. We left Newcastle on 1st July 2009 and we will be back before Christmas 2009. We have made it to Peta's home in Adelaide (for more painting - this time its the hallway). We stopped for a visit to Brian and Maureen's Country Manor at Cherrypool. What a beautiful spot, the trickle of the headwaters of the Glenelg River, the kangaroos trimming the front lawn, the wind and rain continuing and wonderful hospitality. Tomorrow its off towards the [View Full Entry]

Wednesday 8th July: Wow a Bucket Billabong Barra - 57cm long. Not too bad for starters. Managed a legal barra each day at this billabong. Visit from the National Park Ranger again. He didn’t have time for a cuppa but stayed for 1.5 hours??? Back to Darwin for the mail and some food. Stayed at PK & Kim’s shed. Purchased a Next G phone and external antenna to improve our contact with the working souls in society-(that’s you guys). Headed east to Hardies Lagoon-Wow, no one else there. Fished our little arms off without much luck. It seems like the resident [View Full Entry]

Travelblog 9 Thursday 19th June: Moved to Browns Creek on the Daly River for a bush-camp. Leonie took the car and trailer and I drove the boat. Fished our little butts off and never landed a decent fish. Into Palmerston for food and fuel (by-Harry we seem to go through these things). Spent the night in Berrimah then out to Kakadu and 4 Mile Hole on the Wildman River. Met-up with PK and Kim King and Aloha and Ken Brown. The camp area had been devastated by the National Park Rangers doing a hazard reduction burn-off. Its hard to understand how [View Full Entry]

Saturday 26th April: Westward towards Exmouth, we just got off the dirt road before the rain started. Into the hospital to get the cook fixed up. Then fill up the food and fuel and head around to the west side of the cape to Ningaloo Reef. Wow, what a place. Turquoise water and coral reef right at your door. Picked a nice camp area (Neds Camp). Set-up camp and started fishing. Two nice sized Trevally before sunset. Next day put the boat in tried to find some more fish, but looks like they had all gone away. Tried again the next [View Full Entry]

Saturday 5 April: Coronation Beach, north of Geralton - flies, marchflies, wind and sand blowing everywhere. 38deg. Don’t do it. Sunday 6 April: Up to Kalbari N.P. to see the footprints of the Euryptera and biotubations in the rocks. Camped at the flooded Murchison River. Mud and overbank deposits. Mon 7 April: Lets go to Gladstone Jetty, it was great 16 years ago. From the top of White Bluff it was obvious that the road was flooded. OK, on to Bush Bay this road was also flooded. OK, on to Carnarvon, find the Toyota Dealer and book the truck in for [View Full Entry]

@ Wiluna Sunday 23rd March 2008: 90 overnight. Hard to beat yesterdays boating with the dolphins in the Great Australian Bight, but we tried. Drove into Streaky Bay and found some reasonable town water (as our supply was getting low), a Laundromat and the annual market day. Monday: Northwest via Perlubie Beach, Haslam and then a nightmare corrugated dirt road into Acraman Creek (12km). Beautiful area if you don’t mind seaweed. Tuesday: Gordon gave us a mud map showing a less corrugated road back to the Flinders Highway. However it rained overnight and the short-cut took us over a sa [View Full Entry]

Saturday 15th March: New suspension installed and performing well. Headed west via the beautiful coastal town of Wallaroo. A huge new marina with hundreds of expensive looking mansions. The original part of town still displays the bluesone cottages that are a South Australian standard. The car ferry to Lucky Bay departs from here daily. North past Port Broughton, where the fishing shacks and weekenders dominate the local architecture. Port Perie smelter provides work for the brave locals. Overnight camp at Mount Remarkable National Park, with goannas, wallabys and birds by the score. Next d [View Full Entry]

Good morning on Eyre Peninsula

Monday 3rd March. We are finally on the road after 2 weeks at Peta's place in Adelaide doing odd jobs and maintenance around the house. Also had the 12 Volt fridge problem fixed. Headed north then down the eastern side of Yorke Peninsular. First stop was at Port Parham for some blue swimmer crab 'Raking'. That involves walking out acros the sandy flats, at low tide, and dragging arake through the sand looking for crabs that did not want to be disturbed. Then down to Ardrossen, a quiet little village by the gulf. Blue swimmer crabs are everywhere and people are [View Full Entry]
