This was a fun weekend the first time I have been camping without rain, infact it was so hot in thier I hardly had any sleep. Myself and Kat arrived not long after 7am as we set off at 5am so we could watch the sun rise, but due to trhe clouds we did not get to see the sun rise so we really did not need to get up and travel that early. The camp site was 4* so the erection was about start, on the tent. Kat having worked in the navy had the erection nearly complete by the time I had been to the tollet, great I thought. So off we went to explore this beach and what a view this was, you could see Dunk Island from the beach, I would have ... read more

Well on we plough on our campervan adventures and our next destination was Mission Beach, a quite beautiful 14km stretch of coast that is almost all Beach!! We were staying in a Van park only 100m from the beach so spent 2 days just ambling across to the beach sunning ourselves, having a swim in the sea (no stingers have arrived yet!!), wandering back to the van for lunch and then back to the beach for the afternoon. It was really nice to have a couple of days of doing nothing after all the miles we have racked up over the last 5weeks. We couldn't sit still for too long however and we were soon getting up at 6.30am to head out on a days sea kayaking. We were to cross the 4.5km stretch of sea ... read more

After a few tiring days with little sleep in the Whitsundays I was off to Mission Beach. From what I've heard the town doesn't have a whole lot to offer except a relaxed atmosphere which is what I was looking for. The town is basically one street about 300m long. My hostel was set on the beach and about 10 min from town. The only activity on the agenda was spotting a cassowary. They are the second largest bird in the world and look basically like dinosaurs. They have some nasty claws and have actually killed 6 people in Queensland. After talking with the town info center, they suggested a 8k trail that above town. I persuaded the hostel shuttle driver to drop me off at the trailhead and the walk began. It was a beautiful ... read more

From Cairns (after a day in Innisfail) i went to mission beach for 2 days of activities. I got a package of an 11,000 ft tandem skydive and white water rafting. I decided to upgrade the skydive to 14,000 ft, giving 60 seconds of freefall (which i would recomend to anyone thinking of doing a jump because the first few seconds are largely a blur!)It took about 15 minutes to reach 14,000 feet, which luckily seemed to go very fast as about 8 of us were cramed in to a small plane like sardines. We just sat pulling funny faces at the cameras for the people getting DVDs made. My dive master started strapping us together at which point i thought i should ask what to do if he hit his head on the door and ... read more

Falls, frogs, new friends and the obligatory odd ball. After meeting the group on Tuesday all got off to a good start There are only four of us, a girl from Scotland - lovely, so I am sorted in the room share, always a bonus, a guy from Clapham, (who I am sure I have met before, Aine, you probably snogged his mate! x), also lovely and nice to have a fellow Londoner on the same wave length, and a guy from Bath who's been travelling for about 8 months round loads of places alone. His trip looks amazing, I should know because I have sat through the slide show that logs every little detail. I know after this I will have seen some of Oz, but believe me, there are few places between the UK ... read more

Kyseisessa korjausoperaatiossa avaimenperassa olevalla metallirenksulla on olennainen osuus. Mutta tanssikengat on entista ehommat ja nyt molemmat on taas samanlaiset. Lahjoin respaneitia Timtameilla mika sai hanet luultavasti suopeammalle tuulelle. Timtamit on Australialaisia suklaakeksimakeisia joita saattaa tulla hiukan ikava kun Suomeen palaa. Ne on nimittain tosi hyvia, nam! Yksi Timtam olisi pitanyt saastaa Premier bussin kuskille, ehka se olisi edes hiuk... read more

Mission beach is another place in Australia where there is nothing much there. It´s pretty much another 1 street town right on the beach. The main draw for me was the promise of white water rafting on the Tully River. This day was class, probably the best single activity that I did in Austrlaia. All the ingridients where there sun, high water levels and a good group of rafters. The trip from Mission beach to the starting point on the river was about 1hr. In total we rafted for around 5 hrs back to the offices of the company. The rapids them selves ranged in intensity from grade 3 to 4 so they were pretty taxing, much more than a mere trickle. I was with a group of jokers, guys I had met off the ... read more

If your gonna get wet, then get wet properly and that's what we just did......Whhhoooooooooooooooo Whheeeeeeeeee did we get wet. Put this combination together: Water, Rock's, Rapid's and a Raft, and what do you get, that's right white water rafting on the mighty Tully river. Our day started at 7.45am when we where picked up outside of our caravan park and then whisked 40 minutes up the road to the HQ of "RAGING THUNDER" the company which run the rafting on the river. After getting kitted out out with a wet suit & a pair of sandles (street cred down the drain there), we jump back on the bus and head to our start point. Here once off the bus you get your helmet, life jacket & oar and then given your crew number, these ... read more
