Blender Feet - This is my nickname. They are decieving shiny shells that are pleasing to the eye. Just when you think you have them figured out they attack your body showing no mercy. Oh yes...they will have their way with you like a hot knife sliding through pure innocent butter. I have about 5 or 6 slits on the bottom of my feet that are a mm away from needing stitches. I was sitting in my tent, doctoring up my wounds....a tear silently slid down my cheek as they announced the following day would have lot of walking involved.... So Fraser Island was unreal. Our tour guides name is Alex. He was an absolute blast. The first day we rode through the bush, to the Northern tip of the island. The highway on the island ... read more

We got dropped off at Hervey Bay as our base for the Fraser Isalnd experience. Our Hervey Bay accomadation was called The Woolshed and was really nice. We had a tv in our room which was a missed luxuary we were very grateful of, especially as we had the worst weather for the first day so stayed in our room and watched some commonwealth games. We booked a 2 day and 1 night tour of the island fearing that cyclone Larry would create bad weather and we wouldn't be able to do much. We got to the island and started the tour straight away visiting the rainforest and then the beautiful Lake McKenzie. The rain forest lived upto its name and it started to tip it down as soon as we started walking through it. Thanks ... read more

Our final day on Fraser Island. Had to reach the ferry by 2.30 so remained in the southern part of the island and embarked on the Southern Lakes Scenic Drive. Lake Birrabean and Lake Boomanjin were both lovely, the first being a clean quieter version of Lake MacKenzie from day one, the second being a nice tea coloured lake :-S !! Heading Home after a long weekend was a relief, the fight for the shower once everything was checked back in at the hostel was just comical. Shane, who checked us in, had a good feeling about our group and he was right. Everything was spot on so we were free to go our seperate ways! A long weekend lead to a very long rest!... read more

Woke to a glorious morning on Fraser Island. Sun was shining and the hangover was mild. We packed up camp and headed to a campsite to clean all the dishes and for Tommy to have a shower!!!! shock horror!!! we took a light stroll to a large Sandblow...like a mini desert. Attempts at boardless sandboarding were made but it would have been much easier with something resembling a tea tray but as it was we just kind of jumped and hoped for the best. We headed then to Eli creek, which is a beautiful fresh water creek...cold and clear(drinkable by all accounts). Having splashed around there for a while we continued our jorney and made a stop for lunch. The road to Lake Garawongera was fun...the lake itself was a nice place for a dip...not as ... read more

Up at 7am today, half the tent flat on my face and boiling hot. I was still dying for the toilet as i had waited all night! Once we finally got to the showers there was a huge queue, and later on we had to have one of the bossy Canadian girls come in and tell us to hurry up! wasn't our fault!! The hot water was a dollar for every 3mins, so I decided just to have a cold one instead. It was a trek to Lake Wabby. We had to walk a LONG way down hill to the Lake and dreaded the walk back(about 1.2km). The Lake itself was very green, and the sand dunes were so big it looked like desert. Nothing like Lake McKenzie, so we didnt stay there long and went ... read more

Andy and I were up at 5am to sit on the beach and watch the sunrise, yet again. We were also joined by 4 other people from the camp. By 5.30am I had decided that it wasn't going to be all that good and went back to bed! Andy stayed on the beach. Whilst he was lying down taking a photo he felt something pulling on his flip flop. He turned around to find a dingo attached to his foot! He jumped up and backed off. The dingo started to yelp at him and then went and posed for a perfect picture before coming up to Andy again barking! At this point he decided to go back inside and boast to everyone of his encounter over breakfast. After showers we packed our things up and onto ... read more

Andy was up at 6.30am for a walk along the beach feeling a little ruff for too much goon! We had breakfast around 8am and set off for the day at 9am. This morning we were taking a walk into the rainforest. The amazing thing about this rain forest is that it is all growing in sand! You wouldn't think there is enough nutrients, but there is enough nutrients in the top couple of inches, so they spread their roots along rather than down. We had a few stop offs on the way to the walking track through the forest where Mark told us about various trees, plants and logging on the island. We had a nice steady walk through the Yiddy rainforest and along the Wanggoolba Creek. We saw a few lizards and an eel. ... read more
