Had breakfast in Kellerman's restaurant, and Lorraine and Michelle got a note from the retarded kitchen hands that read "you'se are the hottest chicks ever" LOL!! Went off into the rainforest for a walk and then up to Lake Mackenzie where we could swim. The water was beautiful and clear at first where it's shallow and then it drops away and suddenly turns really dark, it looks quite stunning. We relaxed on the beach and took loads of stupid photos with a waterproof camera, then lunch and eventually back to Rainbow Beach. That evening we got the bus to Mackay, changing at Hervey Bay which looks like a dump, and where we watched the local teenagers do donuts in the bus car park. Eventually we arrived in Mackay which is a really quiet, typical country town ... read more

Got up and gorged myself on the free pancakes, even though it meant getting up at 7am! The things i do to keep my lard intake up! Luce and I set off for Fraser Island - other people on the trip were a lovely Italian couple, a couple from Adelaide, a really quiet Korean guy and 2 Irish girls that i nicknamed Doreen and Doris as they were wearing highheels and were really dolled up. They also had the worst fake tan marks ever! LOL! But they were really lovely and we ended up having a real laugh with them. The guide was called "Teewah Tim" and it was just like having your dad along for the ride - that is if your Dad is in his early 50s, bearded and with a big beer belly ... read more

We've just got back from spending three days and two nights on Fraser Island. We joined a small group tour (12 other backpackers from all over the world) on wednesday morning. First, we were driven up to Rainbow Beach by our guide, Mark, in a 4WD minibus/serious truck. Fraser is an island made entirely of sand and accordingly there is no soil, let alone sealed roads. It is listed as an UNESCO World Heritage site and reached by only by barge or boat. We spent most of the first day driving up the beach (100km+) taking in the "Maheno Shipwreck", stopping to swim in the crystal clear "Eli Creek" and finally whale, shark, turtle, dolphin, manta ray spotting (we saw the whole set) from the top of a rocky outcrop named "Indian Head" by Captain Cook. ... read more

I left Noosa on Saturday morning, on a 3-day tour to Fraser Island. The island is the biggest sandy island in the world, and it's unbelievable to see how much life - Flora and Fauna you find on sand. Many travellers are going to this island on self drive tours, and I was afraid to find myself with a group of "oldies", but fortunately I found myself to be the "oldie" (except for Mark our great driver/guide), with a good mixture of singles and couples (2 honeymoon couples!), 20s and 30s (and some 19 year old as well), and a diversity of English speaking countries: English, Scots, North Irish, and yes - also Americans and an Aussie. Yes there were no British people - they were all proud of their different nationalities. The rest of the ... read more

Had a few stops on the way up to Fraser Island courtesy of my trusty Greyhound Bus Pass. I decided to see if I could catch some waves in Newcastle. However, the dude in the hostel that was going to teach me to surf felt that it was just a little too strong for a first timer and after a good walk along the front I was glad as I don't think I would have made it out of the water alive - leave those waves for the professionals!! Instead I made the most of some beautiful weather and went for a very short run off a very long pier!! Next stop, Sleepy Port MacQuarie. Although I only had an overnight stay here it was really quite sweet. One of the girls from the hostel and ... read more

After North Queensland we set off South towards our next major stop, Fraser Island. Before we got there we managed to catch up with our friends who are travelling round the world for a year. We caught up with them in time for Steph's birthday and spent a great day on the beach getting in some kiting as well. (Thanks for making my birthday really special guys, great bbq!) We stayed near the pretty town of Hervey Bay for one night before catching the ferry across to the largest sand island in the world! Fraser Island is out of this world! The sand is the whitest, the water the bluest and the Jeep Wrangler we hired was the best toy in the world! We had a brilliant (if a little bumpy) three days exploring the 150 ... read more

Our trip to Frasier Island was fantastic. We went with an organised group in a 17 seater 4WD truck thing. The company we went with were called Trailblazer Tours and this is the exact tour we did: 99% of backpackers go for the self-drive tours and seem to enjoy it, mainly because of the cheap prices! However, with the guided tour: -All food cooked for you and included in price -All petrol included in price -Guide drives, much lower risk of getting stuck in sand, and no risk of having to pay for damage to jeep -Guide gets everyone up early and on the road, so you do LOADS more -Guide knows best times to get to each spot to avoid the crowds -Fridge to put your beer in !!!! -Guide is super knowledgable It's an ... read more

I know... I know... I haven't written in a while but I have a really good excuse!! I have been having the TIME OF MY LIFE!! I've been doing things that I've always dreaming of doing. When we arrived in Surfer's, we headed to the largest mall in the Southern Hemisphere (The Pacific Fair Mall) and did some browsing. After that we headed to the CBD (City Business District.. that is what Australians call downtown area) for some dinner. We ate at this little Italian restaurant, then we all headed to an Irish pub (Gilhooley's) for a few drinks. We finally found somewhere that know what a Rye and Ginger was! We finally got a good opportunity to get to know our tour guide John, we had a good conversation. We all then headed across the ... read more

Up at 6am, pack and check out for 7am. We have a quick breakfast and then off to the 4wd centre for our breifing, they make it sound very dangerous. Fully briefed we set off for the ferry. The ferry crossing is quite nice, our group consists of Thor, Elena, Josh, Adam, Manny, Libby, Claire, and Sophy. We land approx 11am and head for Lake McKenzie. Roads are very slow and bumpy and it is over an hour before we reach the lake. Lake Mckenzie in Fraser Island is said to have one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The white sand and clear fresh water gives you the feeling that the beach is artificial but we just chill out in water ... its really hot here and everyone stays in the shade. After ... read more
