At Fraser Island you have to pay for hot water. I went to have a shower at 8am, paid for the hot water in one cubicle to find i wasn't the only one in there, a VERY large spider decided it wanted to watch me. I didnt really enjoy that so i paid again to use another! We got moving pretty early, drove along the beach to Eli Creek. Then to Maheno the ship wreck, stopped at the Pinnacles and had lunch, just sandwiches today! After that I had a major trek walking up Indian Head, what a killer! but it was worth it once we were at the top, views were beautiful, tho we saw no sharks. I then swam in the only part of the sea we were allowed to (coz of sharks) called ... read more

Day 2~Got up at 8 and had some breaky on the balcony-was really nice as the sun was just coming out and the view out to the beach made it look beautiful. Drove up the beach and then in land where we stopped and looked at a few different trees. Then we did a short rainforest walk. Had lunch at the picnic area by Lake Birrabean then spent the afternoon on the beach there which was complete paradise-white sand, crystal clear lakes (with no scary creatures in it) and the sun was out in full! Had great fun playing waterpol and then rounders on the beach! In the evening it was back to camp for some spag bol and abit more wine!! Day 3~Got up after a slightly better night sleep, (apart from waking up thinking ... read more

Up nice and early to be picked up at 8.30am. All on the bus and started to head off, but we had to turn back for a guy who hadn't appeared for whatever reason. This was Ben. So after a false start we set off again. We went over the Noosa river of a cable ferry. (My kind of boat trip, only 5 mins. max!). Now on the North shore we carried on towards Rainbow beach. We drove along 40mile beach, this was good and different to drive and see the waves next to you. At this point we had very much noticed the air con was not working properly. So when we eventually got to Rainbow beach via the Great Sandy National Park the driver took the bus off to be fixed leaving us stranded ... read more

Early again for the real trip to Fraser Island. I has the same briefing, with the same guy, Monty who talked waaaaaaaay too fast. No one understood him especially at 7am. We got put into groups, 2 annoying Canadian girls, Kayla and Hayley, both very bossy, 2 annoying Dutch girls, loud and immature, and 2 blokes Jo (Irish) and Drew (Canadian). We spent most of the day getting told how to load the car, put up tents and how to drive, that sorta thing. We left the depo with our 4 wheel drive, both the lads could drive it, we went the wrong way but still managed to get to the ferry on time, and not last either! The ferry took 40mins, once we got there we let the tyres down and went the wrong way ... read more

Day 1~ Got up early (which is getting very hard) as we were being picked up at 8.30 for our Fraser Island tour! The bus was similiar to our Kakadu tour so we grabbed the back seats this time thinking we were clever as the last time the front ones got sooo hot...well turned out the back ones were the hottest as the air-con had broken-that'll teach us! Got talking to a couple on the bus-Mel & Andy, they were from Essex and really nice! Stopped at the service station on the way and Mark (the guide) took the van to get the air-con fixed as we were all giving him abit of grief about it...1 1/2 hrs later (thinking he'd forgotten about us) he returned, still with the broken van but he said we were ... read more

Hey everyone, We travelled from Brisbane to a place called Rainbow beach, this was our departure point to go on our 4WD tour to Fraser Island. The day before we went on the safari we met our groups. There were 2 jeeps travelling with 7 people in each one. Oue jeep was filled with myself, Laurie and Liam and 4 other Irish people ( I know what you're thinking, where would we store all the drink!!!). The Irish people are from Clare and are 2 couples called David and Sinead and Dec and Tina. In the other jeep were 2 English girls, Rachel and Debs, a Canadian guy called Mike, a Swedish guy called Simon, an American couple called Heather and Alex (nicknamed Asslicks after he spelled his name wrong!) and Sam the Australian. We all ... read more

Days 112 - 116 Jumped onboard the fun bus and 3 hours later got to Rainbow Beach. It's a really cute little town. We had a briefing about our Fraser Island trip tomorrow and got assigned to our group (there are 10 people per group). In the evening we ate out in a yummy little cafe and had packed our small bags for our trip tomorrow. Up bright and early for free pancakes and then we packed up the 4x4 that would be ours for the next 3 days. We headed off and caught a barge to the island, which was about a 20 minute ride away. After we landed on Fraster Island, we drove along the beach and through some rainforest before we parked up and had lunch. We then walked down a little pathway ... read more

Hello again! We arrived in Noosa on the 24th where we decided to book our Fraser Island trips etc. Within 2 hours we were on a coach up to Rainbow Beach to prepare for our briefing on our trip to Fraser Island. We spent one day at rainbow beach in which we spent time at the beach then got briefed on our trip. On the 26th we went over the island in a self drive 4x4 jeep. There were 9 people in our group, 7 of us and 2 other extras that we didnt know. With the self drive tours, you cant drive unless you are over 21 and therefore the other 2 in our group had to be older. We were put with an engaged couple - an ozzy guy and an english girl, he ... read more

After flying back to Brisbane from Christchurch, NZ, we moved on up the east coast to Hervey bay. This is the set off point for most of the Fraser island tours. We ended up in a really nice backpackers (Woolshed) that had a DVD player! We booked a 2 day 1 night tour on Fraser Island. Fraser Island is quite special as its the biggest sand island in the world and has lots of trees on it. We took a walk through the forests and walked along the huge beach. It's not safe to swim off the island there are too many sharks apparently. However there is a little area called Champagne Pools which are large rock pools that are big enough to swim in. We took the option to do a little flight around the ... read more

Hi you lot! Now onto my favourite part of the trip so far - Fraser Island. (Well we stopped in Brisbane on the way here but not much to report, pretty average city.) Just me and Millsy now as the other two are heading back to Sydney. Fraser is the world's largest sand island (not that you'd know it as most of the sand is covered in dense rainforest) and you need a 4WD as there are no real roads. Luckily we have Millsy's mum's car although it's not in quite such good condition as when we set out...... We got stuck in the sand before we even got onto the island! Then we got stuck 3 more times, requiring tows. And worst of all we impaled the car on a tree when reversing to avoid ... read more
