A White lake. A bit cloudy but beautiful white sands.
Our trip to Frasier Island was fantastic.

We went with an organised group in a 17 seater 4WD truck thing. The company we went with were called Trailblazer Tours and this is the exact tour we did:

99% of backpackers go for the self-drive tours and seem to enjoy it, mainly because of the cheap prices! However, with the guided tour:
-All food cooked for you and included in price
-All petrol included in price
-Guide drives, much lower risk of getting stuck in sand, and no risk of having to pay for damage to jeep
-Guide gets everyone up early and on the road, so you do LOADS more
-Guide knows best times to get to each spot to avoid the crowds
-Fridge to put your beer in !!!!
-Guide is super knowledgable

It's an amazing island that will rank near the top of my recommended things to see in Australia I'm sure. We were there for 2 nights and managed to squeeze in swimming & snorkelling in 3 lakes (Lake Wabby was easily the best), Andy & Anto both spotted turtles as we explored under-water but they managed to elude me!

The lakes are
An EchidnaAn Echidna
An Echidna

As found in the rainforest on the island
classified based on the colour of their water. The water gets it's colour based on the type of plantlife etc that live in the and around the lake. Lake Wabby is a green lake, Lake Birrabeen is a blue lake, and Lake Boomanjin is a red lake. The most famous one is Lake McKenzie but the tour does not go their due to it being so crowded with tourists.

I must say skipping McKenzie works out well as we had most of the places we visited to ourselves, and they are all stunning.
We also did a short trail through the rainforest (Central Station) which was great.

The food on the trip was perfect, on night one we had a proper Aussie BBQ, complete with Kangaroo sausages!! The second night was pasta which was also nice.

The whole group managed to get fairly p*ssed on the 2nd night during some
backpacker bonding. Lake Wabby was our saviour the next morning as it has
huge sand dunes on one side of it which we flew down on body boards and splashed
into the lake at the bottom.......perfect way to blow away the cobwebs. There
are photos on our website which barely do it justice with the sand dune on
one side and rainforest on the other side of the lake !

I can't recommend this trip highly enough, our guide Mike was excellent as well.

A MUST DO !!

I have left Ireland..........that country is dead to me! I'm an Irish accountant living & working in Sydney at the moment, having spent almost 4 months travelling through South East Asia, followed by 7 months work in Brisbane. I also spent the month of October travelling up the East coast and to Alice Springs. Am looking at leaving Sydney in November 2006, then onto New Zealand for 6 weeks, South America for 3 months, Central America for 5/6 weeks, Cuba , possibly Canada, then back to Europe. Latest plan is also to catch the Cricket World Cup in Jamaica in March 2007!!! Click the ... full info
