How beautiful is Australia? Seriously, this country is so lovely. I went to Cape Tribulation today where you have a lovely rainforest bordered by lovely beaches. I couldn't swim out since its jellyfish season, but still, it was beautiful! So my day consisted of a river cruise along the Daintree River. It was super cool and actually saw a few crocodiles! Then went on a walk through Cape Tribulation and saw the beach meeting the rainforest. I also had a lovely scoop of ice cream (or rather 4 scoops of authentic tropical fruit ice cream for $6) from Daintree Ice Cream Company. Can I just tell you that it was so freakin worth it?? The ice cream was delicious and the fruit was definitely weird looking! Then it was onto Mossman Gorge to learn of the ... read more

Well, we survived Auckland. Mainly due to a free trip that got us out of the city and I have to say New Zealand is beautiful, so we're looking forward to going back in Jan. The Rainforest was the first port of call. Had a brilliant day, driving through the rainforest, going to a Wildlife Sanctuary where we got to hold a Koala (tick) feed Kangaroo's (unexpected tick) and stroke a baby Crocodile. Saw some breath taking views and went for a walk along Cape Tribulation Beach/ In the rainforest. Here our tour guide-who looked suspiciously like Steve Irwin and was called Steve- proceeded to pick up a large red ant with a green bum and bite the bum off. When he uttered the words, you try it, I couldn't resist. I'm like a child in ... read more

Day 49, 30/10/11 I need a job...so today I spent the morning job hunting; popping in and out of loads of cafes, coffee shops, restaurants and even Subway hoping for a job. Got rid of a fair few CV's and even searched online and applied for a few on there so fingers crossed something will crop up. Booked our Camper Van in the afternoon for tomorrow and then had lunch back at the hostel. Uploaded some of my photos and then went to Coles supermarket for some ingredients for dinner before playing Cluedo and Monopoly in Hostel with some Germans. Day 50, 31/10/11 We picked up our Camper Van at 8am and it is a tiny thing but has everything and looks great fun. It had two seats in the front, then a sofa in the ... read more

“Thanks for the note, I appreciate that, I was out bowling”.

Mooie foto’s gemaakt. Je ... read more

21-8-11 Travelled to Lion’s Den Hotel at Helensvale today & booked into the camping area behind the pub, $26 a night with power, water & showers. We went to Cooktown for groceries & fuel, $1.47 for petrol & 99c for auto gas. We then went back to Lion’s Den for lunch, a very old pub built in 1875 with lots of character. We were lined up ordering lunch & a woman came up behind him & gave him a big squeeze, he nearly died, it was Di & Tom that we met on our travels in Darwin & visited in S.A. Well we had a great afternoon catching up on all the goss & having a few drinks, with a band playing in the background. There was a beautiful Jade Tree with the most brilliant blooms ... read more

Geo: -16.1, 145.46It wasn't as tough maneuvering a Spaceship along the wrong side of the road as I thought it might be and we made our way north along the coast almost incident free until we arrived in the heart of Cape Tribulation. Along the way we learned that it was something of an obligation to wave at anyone else we saw driving a Spaceship, and it was equally important to not wave at those driving any other rental vehicle (of course, the Grey Nomads wandering all through Australia with camper trailers firmly in tow, had to be acknowledged with a subtle wave just off the top of the steering wheel). The folks in Australian tourism bill Cape Trib as the oldest rainforest in the world and the only place where a rainforest meets a beach- ... read more

The "Bloomfield Track" was a briliant scenic drive from Cooktown to Cape Tribulation. It is a 4x4 track and a great short cut. It was well graded but very very steep and windy. Lots of things to stop and look at on the way. A very big crocodile sunning itself on the bank of the Daintree River (sorry no photo, couldn't stop). The Bloomfield Falls which are just before you cross the river are worth the walk to look at. Peter got there way ahead of me as he dosen't seem to notice the rocks etc that you have to scramble over. If you look closely he is actually in the photo...just a long way away. River is now easy to cross as it has a concrete causeway, apparently it used to be a tricky crossing ... read more

The drive from Cairns to Port Douglas ranks as one of the great drives of Australia. Once you escape the roundabouts of Cairns, the road turns into this winding, coast hugging, scenic beauty. Every so often you get a visage of an idyllic beach that only hippies and surfies dare to camp along. Would love to come back here with a convertible Grande Tourer vehicle to wind through the curves and drink in the excitement. Port Douglas is a resort town, and a breath of fresh air. Anthony smiled as he said it reminded him of the markets and shopping strips of Balmain. We treated ourselves to the best coffee of the trip thus far (go to Café Ecco – it’s calling you). The Sunday markets were fun and were really a joy to walk amongst ... read more
