Arrived in Australia! Australasia » Australia » Queensland » Cairns » Cairns By GembeanJune 21st 2007 Hi all, Arrived in Australia last week, and it's been rain rain rain ever since! Staying in Cairns mostly, your standard city, nothing too exciting. Also took a trip up to Cape Tribulation to enjoy a bit of the rainforest and beach but it was awful. Torrential rain for the whole 3 days we were up there, a filthy hostel etc... not great! So far pretty unimpressed with Australia but hoping it will get better. Had a brief look into... read more

Hi eveyone, sorry it has taken so long we have had a few technical issues but here we are anyway! So we arrived in Cairns on the 3rd June 07 just over 2 weeks ago and it has been all go since. The first couple of days we just looked around Cairns taking it all in, we booked a trip on the great barrier reef where Bri went scuba diving and I went snorkling. The weather was not great it rained a bit but the sun came out for a few hours so I could start on my tan! After a few days we started on the hunt for our camper van, we trailed the hostels looking for adverts and picked a few we wanted to take a look at. The first one was owned ... read more

I am only just getting round to update this blog as its well out of date so I'll make it short and sweet so I can get my new ventures on here asap! To cut a long story short I arrived in Cairns on the 17th of June where I spent a few days before heading to Port Douglas which was a lovely place and then also went up to the Cape Tribulation and did some horse riding on ther beach and through the rainforest, jungle surfing (you are attached to a harness and swing from tree to tree at a great height!) and also a night walk in the rainforest. I then decided to go back to place I love most, yes it had to be Brissy! Pictures to follow shortly....................................................... ... read more

On our second day in Cairns we went on "Safari" into the Rainforest. We visited the Daintree River, taking a cruise downstream where we spotted several crocodiles and a load of tree snakes. We took a walk round the rainforest looking for Cassowaries and learning about the various foliage. We got a little closer to nature during our BBQ lunch, when a Huntsman spider (the biggest in the world - this one only the size of a fist!!) crawled up Dom's leg and towards his head. In his haste to get rid of it he brushed it on to Bex, who luckily didn't realise it had been on her until it was swept off - otherwise there most definitely would have been tears. After lunch we went for a swim in a nearby creek - of ... read more

Hi! The last week or so has been busy trying to sort out my time here. In brief I've been in Cairns, Cape Tribulation, Port Douglas then Cairns again. ............ When I arrived in Cairns it was 25 degrees and really humid. It has since cooled down but I'm still in shorts, flip flops, bikini, sunglasses, sunhat etc having ditched the fleece, raincoat, covered shoes, headscarf etc (for now, apparently down south is very cold!) The first few days I solidly trawled the many, many tourist agencies (all hostels double up as these as well) and read brochures. The price of activities in Oz shell shocked me again, I have quickly (and begrudginly) had to increase my Oz budget by a half. The hardest decision was what company to go with to learn to dive ... read more

Wir sind Montag den 11. Juni in Cairns (ueber Sydney) nach ca. 14 (11 + 3) Stunden Flug angekommen. Quantas Langstreckenfluege sind echt zu empfehlen. Super Service und Unterhaltungsprogramm. Wir konnten sogar Computerspiele zocken. Cairns Just arrived at Cairns we enjoyed the sun and relaxed during the first two days at the beach. Afterwards the weather became worse and we decided to start a trip to Cape Tripulation which is located in the Daintree rainforest. Cape Tripulation is famous for it's nice beaches and it's beautiful nature. During a nightwalk through the rainforest we saw lots of spiders and other amazing animals and plants. (sorry, no pictures - were not allowed) Back in Cairns we began to plan our trip down the coast. We had the choice to travel by the Greyhound Bus, Car or Campervan. ... read more

Left Mission Beach on the 29th May (with a lovely raft rash!) and wouldn't you know it, after so much crap weather the sun decided to split the trees the minute we got on the bus for Cairns. And of course it was miserable when we arrived in Cairns- not impressed at all! Cairns is a very pretty little city known as the gateway where the Great Barrier Reef meets the tropical rain forest, a national heritage site where two national tresures co-exist side by side. Me, Sus and Linz checked into the Cairns Beach House Hostel and well, it wasn't the best at all and don't get me started on the staff...useless really. After familiarising ourselves with the city and getting to know our English and Canadian dormies we settled for an early night and ... read more

Hello folks! It is day 3 for me downunder and it is absolutely pouring it down outside! It is their first wet day of the winter - typical it has coincided with my arrival!! I am wearing a jumper today as it is about 8 degrees, I hear you are having a bit of a heatwave back home. I must be the only person who can go to Australia and be met with worse weather than in England! Going back a few days, my flight was looooong. I thought I was going to have a repeat of my Canada incident where I was sick in a limo and down marble stairs after a long flight. Qantas are a great airline to travel with, they gave you your own TV screen with a choice of about 30 ... read more
