Got up backed and checked out. My Ferry ride wasnt till 1:00. SO I hung out at the hostel for a while. Had breaky then sat and read and talked to some Israely chap with crosseyes (wasnt sure which eye I should be looking into). There are loads of Israely travelers over here. They all seem to come over after doing there 3 years mandatory Army stint. Time came to catch the bus. So I did. It was ANZAC day today, Australian remeberance day. Unlike the remeberance day back home alot of people here use it as an excuse to where fake war medals and then get hammered. We picked up some of these people on the way to the ferry terminal, all suited and booted but highly lubricated. Caught the ferry back to the ... read more

Hey everyone, Well I have arrived in cains. The airport that I left from at Alice Springs was miniture. It looked like a toy playmobile set. The flight was interesting as you could watch the changes of the land from red desert sand, to mountins to rich lush forsest as you approced the coast of queensland. The airport was right by the sea and for a moment it looked like we were going to land on the sea! I grabbed a free shuttle bus to cavanelles 149- the name of my hostle. This is a nice hostle with a pool and my room has 14 beds and 2 on suite showers woo. It is also very very cheap and comes with a free dinner everynight. For the last 4 nights I have had the same supper, ... read more

Well we are now in Cairns, well port douglas actually which is a little North of Cairns. We arrived in Cairns on Monday and have had an amazing time so far! We stayed in a hotel our first night and got upgraded to an apartment which was amazing and we got it for really cheap rate of internet! The next day we picked up our new camper van, sacked of wicked campers and was not impressed and went with a company called Backpacker campervans about $100 more expensive but so so much better, room to stand in back, has grill, microwave and 2 hobs and a hand helf shower thing you hang off back door. The height of the ceiling means it is a lot cooler making it easier to sleep which is the main ... read more

Devil's got a hold of me... he won't let go I feel the Lord pulling... but he's pulling dead slow Some of us do the winning some of us do the losing... it's just who does the choosing! In the end... we are all winners...

Our new favourite piece of equipment is our roof top tent which we have just installed on the truck and tested. I thought I might share a few pictures with you as we had never really known they were available until recently. The thought of setting up a dome tent every night had been daunting us for months so we are very happy that we have found such a simple solution. It takes no time to set up, has a matress and you can leave made up and ready to go at the drop of a hat. The only draw back is that the car is now 2.3m high so carparks are out and low hanging branches a real hazard. The tent is a tribute to eBay as we paid about half of what they ... read more

A short drive out from Cairns, Northbound along the coast highway, Leanne took us for a quick swim, on what turned out to be a rather overcast afternoon. Today was the first day since our arrival in Australia, where it has not rained! It was so refreshing to get wet, even though the water seemed pretty cool (in reality it was probably quite warm!) and mess around swimming between large boulders half submerged in the rapids and pools... read more

Today has been a shopping day. Only two full days left in Oz and with most sights seen we are turning our attention to the shops. I wasn't going to add an entry for today but just had to comment on my delighted finding in Cairns shopping mall. As some kind of Easter event, a farm is visiting with a stall set up in the centre of the mall. Besides the usual farm animals they had 4 cages of guinea pigs!! AND most of them were babies! They were so cute and incredibly tame. I guess they get used to be handled every couple of minutes. I out-aged everyone by a good 20 years. Shashi just watched and took my photo. I am definitely going to get some more guineas soon. This evening we decided to ... read more

We arrived into Cairns at 10.30pm, after a three hour stop in Sydney airport. No idea what Sydney even looks like though! It was great to be picked up by Leanne, who took us to a mates house where we have had a mattress on the floor for a couple of nights. It always makes travel better when you have a local to stay with and show you what the culture really is like. Yesterday we were taken to a game of Aussie rules football. We still have little idea of the rules, but we are not sure even the locals know all the complexities of the sport! In true aussie style, the spectating was accompanied by a fair amount of beer, leading to some interesting comments being yelled to the players. Luckily the local ... read more
