Our arrival in Thailand was of course a little shocking. But we found our guesthouse just off of the crazy tourist haven Kho San Road. We took it easy for our first visit to Bangkok as we were a little under the weather, but that didn't stop us from indulging in some great thai food. We found out pretty quick that tuk-tuks take you to where they can get free gas coupons..and that resulted in Clay buying a really nice suit. But we also got to see the impressive reclining Buddha and some beautiful chedis decorated in tiny colourful tiles where the ashes of four of the previous kings are entombed. From Bangkok we flew to Phuket which is where it really gets touristy. There's people at every corner trying to get you buy one thing ... read more

Well, we've been away from the blog for a while now! Our last post was after Fraser Island, and honestly there wasn't too much to write about from there to Sydney. We drove down the east coast, stopping at the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Byron Bay and (of course) Nimbim, before arriving in Sydney. Unfortunately Ive already burned my photos and mailed them home, so the two you see right now are the only photos of Sydney left on my camera. To make a long story short, we arrived in Sydney, drove straight to the Kings Cross Backpacker Car Market, where we sold our car (after five long days) for $2000 dollars. Considering we put 30,000 kms on it and it took us from Perth to Sydney, and everywhere in between, we were extremely happy ... read more

Well travelling on from Cairns was a bit of a relief for us, as we had been living in John'O land..which is the caravan park we lived in for almost two months owned by pshcho John'O who just frothed over the only power he's obviously ever had in life, by kicking people out of his park just for fun. Anyhoo, our first destination was Far North Queensland's Atherton Tablelands which are riddled with one amazing waterfall after another submerged in lush rainforest. We camped along a river our first night where little birds swooped and drank from the little pools in front of us, and a freaky little spotted possum darted around us eating dinner at night. We headed to Townsville the take off point to Magnetic Island. The weather was a bit drab but that ... read more

We made it! 4000 kms and five and a half days later we rolled into Cairns. Leaving tropical Broome, we traveled through the barren red centre before arriving in the tropical mountains of northeast Queensland. Along the way we got close to come saltwater Crocs at a crocodile farm in Wyndam and had some close calls with animals on the road in the Northern Territory. The highways in the NT have a 130 kph speed limit which is great for traveling large distances quickly, but dangerous when stray animals run in front of your car. In one morning we had a wild bore and a large feral dog run in front of our car. If it wasn’t for Clay's "Andretti-like" driving we may not have survived. Another day a giant hawk was eating road kill in ... read more

On from the dolphins in Monkey Mia we headed to the famous Coral Bay which is along the Ningaloo Marine Park. Coral Bay is unique (as this part of the world is) because just off the beach was the coral reef. The aqua blue waters were nice and warm and provided excellent snorkelling just a few metres into the water. After a day of snorkelling and lounging in the sun, we decided to pay for the most expensive experience of a lifetime and basically the main attraction of the Coral Bay and Exmouth area, and that is to swim with the whale sharks. They are the worlds largest species of fish and come into the area every year for a couple of months. So the next day we headed onto a boat which waits for a ... read more

Our first stop, and first caravan park, was in Cervantes where the ancient Pinnacles stand. They're basically limestone pillars ranging from a few cm to a few metres in height scattered across the desert. Quite impressive actually. And while wandering among the pinnacles we encountered our first emus! Which we of course chased to take photos of. We gave our first go at fishing off a pier in Jurien Bay with no luck, as we watched the other fishermen just pull them in, but I reckon they were cheating using burley, but we're getting excited about catching dinner one day none the less. Next area of interest was the Hutt River Province Principality, which I'm sure most people have never heard of. Where a farmer, now Prince Leonard, successfully seceded from the Commonwealth of Australia through ... read more
