Well, when we took off from Heathrow on a dull and grey English morning Jim was still without visa. He decided to chance it and fly anyway, though there was a good chance he would be turned back, or detained for extensive anal examination upon arrival. I managed to persuade the overworked BA check in guy that Kitesurfing kit is sporting equipment and that it should be treated as a windsurfer which travel free. So I got my 25kgs of boards and kites on without paying what would have been £100 extra baggage. The Quantas 747 is pretty close to a sardine can, particularly when you are 6ft 3”. On takeoff the pilot apologised that the entertainment system (on which I had carefully planned 25hours of films to watch), was broken, all it would show as ... read more

I head back to Syndey for a week to catch up with Sar before my trip to NZ (and also because I love Syndey!) Catch a flight from Brisbane (1 hour), and am in Crow's Nest later that day. Lee is away on business for the first 2 evenings, so Sar and I catch up over wine and take-aways, and just generally enjoy girl talk!! ... read more

Byron in a nutshell: partied all night, slept on the beach all day. Met up with Cosi (girl who I met on Fraser Island) and we stayed at a guy's house who rented out his rooms to travellers. This made a refreshing change to staying at a hostel, and meant that all my unwashed clothes could be unpacked and spread about my bed, so that made me feel right at home. Byron has a real mix of people from geriatric hippies (a large proportion of the town!) to seemingly 12 year old (but in reality 18) Oz girls and boys getting drunk; so me and Cosi fitted right in!! We mainly caught some serious rays at the beach during the day, or practised our surfing skills, as we are both planning on entering the next World ... read more

I spent a feqw days in Byron Bay, this tunred out to be longer than i had planned but it just seemed far better that Surfers (where i briefly went) which seems so capitalist that i just headed back to Byron. Byron is a moor relaxed place, in some ways its like an exponentially smaller san francisco, which is good. I got there, with no hostel to stay in and this wasn't good, the place is so popular that every bed was booked out, which was a shame. I had to get a more expensive hotewl room for my first night, butv was able to book into a hostel for the next three. In my hostel i met a gang of seven Irish guys who were really friendly, accompanying them were two norweigian girls and a ... read more

Hi All, Time for the next installment! Sorry it's taken a while, I wrote it but forgot to publish, d'oh! We are on a roadtrip up the East Coast at the moment with another couple, Mike and Monique. Camping or staying in hostels all the way. We've stopped at various places but have spent most of our time in Byron Bay and Surfers Paradise so far. Port Macquarie was our first stop - a little seaside town where we swam, chilled out and visited a koala sanctuary - not seen any wild ones yet though. Next stop Byron Bay which I loved. For those of you who haven't been, it's this chilled out little surfer town with a gorgeous beach and great atmosphere. Our campsite overlooked the beach and we spent most of our time there, ... read more

My time here was the best. It is such a beautiful town. The owner of the hostel took me on a tour round the town and down to the water to show me these massive sting rays. They were huge! A guy was cutting up some fish and throwing the leftovers into the water where the sting ray would gulp it up through his belly whole! On my walk around Narooma I came across what I thought were 'heaps' of stones but in fact they were crabs. Absolutely hundreds of them. I crouched down to have a closer look and take some photos and I noticed that they were appearing from underneath them mud. The sound of their movement was so loud, it was strange. Sabine and I also went on a bike ride (oh how ... read more

After yesterday, a bit of fresh air was required. I set out through Darlinghurst hoping a good start would lift my spirits. It worked. I glided through the cafe world like a bee pollinating flowers. Hover a bit, see if any one is interested then on to the next scene. The bee gets just a little bit of nectar (donation) and the flower gets pollinated (stickers go out). Nice analogy. Then a bus to Rose bay where previously I'd had no luck. I hate to delete or discount anywhere in Australia from the wave of support for " Southern Cross and Boomerang" so a return was a chance for Rose Bay to be "on side". No problem. For a quiet place, this time the response was terrific. I continued on a walking tour to the cliffs ... read more

So we arrived in Cronulla and have been backwards and forwards to the Blue Mountains... as we like it so much. The weather has reminded us of home as one day it is grey and then the next it is wet... the only difference is when the sun shines the weather ends up as hot as 40 degrees!!! Well, hope you enjoy this new lot of photo's .... Missing you all Suzanne and Tony xx xx... read more

Saa har jeg vaeret paa en dejlig tur til Blue Mountains ca. 130 km fra Sydney. Fantastisk landskab med de flotteste bjerge og meget frodigt landskab. Fed tur i 4WD, ogsaa saadan lidt off-road. Her til aften saa jeg i ... read more
