Well I arrived safely, walked in to my hostel dorm to find 9 swedish peple...all very nice people but all speaking swedish to each other so i felt totally isolated! went for a stroll round Darling Harbour which is just near the hostel. its beautiful, very quaint and extremely touristy. then i walked up through the city to the bridge and the opera house! very nice city. Its so clean and theres trees everywhere. Slept very badly because i was feeling ever so lonely and a bit panicked because I had no idea what my master plan was for the next 15 weeks! 10000 miles from home, alone in a strange city with no idea where i'll be sleeping after sunday! eep!! anyway Im sure i'll settle to it, and get my bearings!... read more

Day 94 Checked out and got a lift to the wharf then boarded the ferry back to Syndey. Caught the underground, walked a bit then checked into our hostel. Went for a mooch around yet more shops but were knackered so just chilled out at the hostel. Had dinner and that was about it!... read more

That's not a knife......this is a knife As my boss at Sydney Dept. of Education, the good old Terry Crotty (Snotty Crotty), would say: There are two things I hate about Bushwalking. Bush and Walking. He was never the funniest man on the planet, but with his jokes about employing Sweedish girls called Agnetha and asking us to Put the cat out every time he left the office for the day, (yes, every day), Adam and I loved him, in the way you love a senile old grandad. Anyway, Adam, Smoss and their mate Ben, who had turned up over Christmas after trecking around the globe, had managed to get a little trip out into the Ku-Ring-GaiChase National Park and HawkesburyRiver area organised to sample the infamous bush. It was a good day out, tramping around ... read more

After arriving in Sydney and hanging out in Manly for a couple of days I decided to take myself off to the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, by train. I stayed in Katoomba, a queer hilly town that reminded me of those small French/Italian Alpine towns you suddenly come across when driving through the, er, French/Italian Alps. This might have been something to do with the 10 degree temperature drop (well, it felt like it!) and the swirling mist as the train climbed higher and higher from the suburbs of Sydney. I did some good walks on my own round and down by the Three Sisters and National Pass and across to Katoomba Falls, walking through rain and eucalypt forest. You can see why the Blue Mountains are so named. The fine mist of moisture and ... read more

Today was "normal" in that it started out busy, went into a midday lull and finished with a flourish. The most notable incident, apart from the usual parade of supporters eager to get a "flag of our own", was when I saw the old "Ausflag " designs flying from a building on Bond Street. I went in to try to find who had the power to get these flags flown from a complex which included the Macquarie Bank. They had to be big. Found out it was the DMG or MDG giant engineering firm. Tried to get to the person in charge but ended leaving a sticker with the receptionist with the request that she find out who authorized it and to give them my sticker in the distant hope they might decide to upgrade to ... read more

Hello from Byron Bay - the hippi part of the east coast! Byron has been our home for a good two weeks and its been nice to finally settle down somewhere for a change. We have been staying in a pretty nice lodge with its own pool etc and 9 of us are staying together in an apartment which has allowed us to cut on living costs as it has its own kitchen etc etc. Over the last week or so ive become a pretty dab hand in the old kitchen, cooking up mexican meals, sweet thai chilli chicken and other gourmet meals!! Byron is a fairly small town with one main strip leading up to the beach. Conveniently where we are staying is directly opposite one of the most popular clubs in the area called ... read more

Help - I've been taken to Sydney in a big aeroplane with a kangaroo on the tail. The journey was very long - 24 hours in all - and my captor is a scary woman with a streaming cold and a red nose. She marched me all the way round Sydney today despite the illness and jet lag situation. It's a pretty cool place. We were a bit disappointed by Sydney harbour because we couldn't see the opera house, but then we realised it was the wrong one and once we'd marched round a bit more we found the right harbour and we liked it - it was really windy and there were cool boats. Here are some photos. The weather isn't very good today, but my captor says we're going to learn to surf and ... read more

As planned I went to SBS today. I got up early so I could arrive in time to spruik the employees arriving for work. Took the northern line to St. Leonard's and walked to headquarters. This is in the suburbs and at first I thought this is going to be a bust but after a half an hour people started arriving. I had one of the best runs ever. There wouldn't be a monarchist in the building. One guy said he'd give a sticker to Jenny Brockie. After things quietened down, I went in to reception to ask to speak to Jennie as I thought I saw her drive in. I was told to sit and wait. Then George Negus came in and I jumped up and tried to tell him that I had been thrown ... read more
