Days 90 & 91 Another early start, we walked up to our pick up and clambered aboard the bus at 7.20. The Blue Mountains are about an hr and a half from Sydney and our first stop was to see some Kangaroos. We took some piccies and then jumped back on the bus and were driven to another part to do an eco walk. The walk lasted 3 hours through rainforest and we saw some lizards but luckily no snakes!! The views were really nice - they are called the blue mountains because of the blue mist the euycaliptus trees give off. We had lunch and then headed for Grouse Valley where we walked down the Furber staris into Jamison Valley to view the 3 sisters rock formation, which was pretty unimpressive given all the hype ... read more

10.02.06 We caught our bus at 9.15am. It was a long trip with a lot of stops. At around 2pm we got onto our train for 3 more hours. Was shattered and very hot by the time we got there. With our bags we went in search for somewhere to stay. After 2 or 3 that were too expensive and 2 that were booked up we came across Homebase. A real s**t hole! It was disgusting and dirty. But was fed up of carrying bags and walking in the heat that we booked into a dorm there. Luckily it was only for one night. That eveing after dinner. (shepards pie in a tin and curry in a tin) we went out for a couple of drinks, but neither of us were really in a good mood. ... read more

We made an early start (5.30pm) and got a good run through Sydney, had breakfast on the way (Heatherbrae) and arrived at Treachery Camp, Seal Rocks at 10am. As we were the first of the Beach Lodge group to arrive we checked in and deposited our bags in the beach lodge common room. We then looked for the campers and found Eric and Susan. Eric had set up a large tarp, barbeque, tables and chairs. Basically we had two groups staying at Treachery Camp, 19 at the Beach Lodge (nowhere near the beach) and about another 30 who were camping. After the other Beach Lodge residents arrived we were allocated a cabin and then got ready for the beach. The beach was a bit of a trek from the camping ground, we had to climb a ... read more

Today started with a tack through Darlinghurst on my way to the Cruising Yacht Club for the Saturday race. Spruiking was OK. Went through the park and ended up in front of the club where several members got stickers. Nice. Sailing was the order of the day. We went out. Windward was good. We're in the mix. Rounded Manly mark. All's well. Got asymetrical working. We're passing boats. Then meltdown. Sail flogs. Wraps. Very ugly. After much effort we get it down (in tatters). Back at the club and a couple of jugs later, life goes on. I farewell these sailing mates (Dave, Matt and Hughey) and hope to see them again in a few months. My walk back was verging on rock star. It seemed every other person wanted a sticker. Over thirty went out. ... read more

Hei haa! We left the Princes highway at Geelong and headed for the Great Ocean Road which starts at Torquay just to the south. Stopped off in Torquay to have a look around a craft fair on the sea front, nice little place but we didn’t buy anything, just had a coffee and moved on. The great ocean road was built by veterans of the first world war and what a job they did. As soon as you hit the coastline, the camera comes out as the views are stunning,. Then you drive on and turn the next bend and the views are even better. Had a couple of stops in the look outs and took some pictures and made our way slowly to Apollo Bay where we booked into a motel and got a takeaway, which we ... read more

After relaxing in Crow's Nest, head into central Syndey. Wander around The Rocks area in more detail, and visit The Museum of Modern Art. It was a disturbing visit, and not what I was expecting! The general themes were Sex, War and Policitics, with loads of really grotesque models and statues dipicting the about theme. Not for the weak hearted. After this, I head to Syndey bridge and walk across it and back. Views of the opera house and city are fabulous. In the evening, go along to a friend of Sar's (Dan) for a BBQ with Sar and Lee. Dan and I met in the UK years ago through Sar, so it was great seeing her again.... read more

So it's almost time to say good-bye to Australia and the sun has finally come out, which will make it even harder to leave! Although I don't seem to be able to tan in this country as you have to use factor 30 all the time! I can't believe how quickly time has flown this past two weeks but I have done sooooooo much! I've also met a few Stopgap candidates along the way who seem to remember my name from when they were in the UK, which is hilarious but annoying as they all keep asking me for an advance! I spent the last week in Cairns where I completed my advance diving qualification... yep, I can now go down 30 meters and do night dives! It was amazing, I went on a 3 days ... read more

Further down the coast I stayed in a place called Merimbula (all of you must go and buy big maps of Australia as these placenames probably mean nothing to you...) The hostel was a 2 minute walk to the beach. How perfect is that. On my first day I got a bus to Bega and went to the Bega Cheese factory there. I tried so many different types of cheese and ate alot of it! mmmm :) I bought the best cheese ever, it was made with pesto...oh yes... and you got to walk into a certain part of the factory and watch them make the cheese...haha i loved it! Day two in Merimbula I got another bus but this time going south to Eden. Here I went to a whale museum. There was a big ... read more
