journeying to spokane via greyhound was less than exciting, I felt very dubious at the bus station in Seattle, which felt very shaby...there was plenty of room on the bus however and The scenery became desert like after we crossed the mountains, the sky clear and blue, comfortably warm in the midday sun..... I was met in Spokane by Ian who guided me around the high lights, Japanese gardens and parks.. we all met up for supper Ian, Pam, James and Will.... The next day, which was Halloween, we visited friends (jane and John) 16 acres - an old Indian winter camp and now a retreat centre..After sauna and a dip in the creek, we shared supper then held a ceremony in an old storage cave. I called in and then we jouneyed to the land ... read more

Hello everyone, this is Sean. I am sadly back in the united states. So here is what happened. We were having a great time traveling as you all have seen and read about. And we were making are way to the coast to go relax and swim in the sea. We wanted to stop in a small town on the way were you can get a $7 message. But on the bus ride there I started to feel really bad. When we got there I felt worse so I rested in bed for a couple of days. After 2 days I thought it was time to see the doctor. He was very nice and he took a blood test for malaria. It came back negative so he thought I just had an infection. The next day ... read more

Nov 7. Baltimore,MD Vitto had a busy day addressing all the damages caused to the boat by running it under the conditions that we did yesterday. The entire city of Baltimore is a Maritime Museum. It used to be a main ship maker in the past. The visitors can feel the history in the air. It is not a touristy port like Annapolis and that makes it much more interesting. It is historic and interesting. The maritime museum city has many faces. There are regular museums in every block of the waterfront but also there is a fleet of different types of ships that have been donated to the city by different entities to be converted into maritime self learning schools and interactive museums. All ships of the fleet are in pristine condition and open to ... read more

"Exploration is not a choice, really; it's an imperative." Michael Collins, Apollo 11 I finally managed to sleep until a decent hour Tuesday morning which is why the blog entries have gotten a bit behind. Never mind -- it felt good to sleep and not wake up while it was still dark outside. The reason I am in DC is to attend the annual conference for my work. So -- today I had to stop the playing and get down to work. It wasn't as bad saying good-bye to Mom and Lynn as it usually is because I will see them again in about a week and a half. Oh yes -- four transatlantic flights in as many Saturdays. Don't ask! I'm putting it down to a senior moment. Mom and Lynn drove me over to ... read more

We are having an extended stay in Key West and the weather has been great - upper 70's and lower 80's. We started out at the Key West Bight City Marina. It turned out that most of the race boats entered in the Key West World Championship Races were also staying at this marina. What a colorful group! They are the Nascar of the boating world. The boats are brightly painted, fast, and loud. They also come with flashy girls - literally. The boat across the dock from us was from Texas. The two girls on board wore cowboy hats, bikinis in Texas flag material, and crotchless leather chaps. What a sight. There were an abundance of girls in thongs too. Fortunately this group does not stay on their boats after they get tied up. They ... read more

Obfuscator writes: Connecticut proved to be much more reasonable than Rhode Island, at least in terms of keeping us entertained. That's not to say that Connecticut was entirely non-disappointing. Groton, which is across the Thames River from New London, is home to a major submarine base for the Navy. It's also home to the Submarine Museum and U.S.S. Nautilus, which was the first nuclear submarine. We had high hopes for this, being interested in the craziness that is submarine history. Fortunately for us, it didn't seem to be closed for the season, a refreshing change in this part of the country. Unfortunately for us, it was closed until mid-November for renovations, and since we didn't have a week in our schedule to spare, we knew we wouldn't be making it back for this one. New London ... read more

The Green Build conference started on November 7th. Bill Clinton gave the opening address at the Greenbuild conference today. it was quite interesting although he didn't really say anything new and exciting. For some reason the Americas are rather fixated on Carbon. Everything they talk about is to do with carbon emissions and global warming. For a country that didn't sign Kyoto that are rather interested in it now. Actually to the detriment of other matters, which is more than a little scary. In true American form they have fixated only on one part of the problem and are ignoring everything else. The exhibition is pretty interesting. It is amazing to have an entire hall filled with sustainable products and companies. Makes a pleasant change. The conference itself hasn't been the most fascinating thing in the ... read more

Let your love flow outward through the universe, To its height, its depth, its broad extent, A limitless love, without hatred or enmity. Then as you stand or walk, Sit or lie down, As long as you are awake, Strive for this with a one-pointed mind; Your life will bring heaven to earth. -Sutta Nipata So, it's been a whole year since we've not only left word with you all on our old, dear travel blog here, but it's also been a year as well since we returned from one of the best trips of our lives. North America » United States » New York November 7th 2007

On the 28th October we headed off for a holiday to New York and Pittsburgh. Mike Newhouse (the best man at our wedding in June) was getting married in Pittsburgh on November 3rd. After much research on airfares on every website on the net, Jamy was ambushed one night with the news that it would only cost $50 more in airfares to go to New York City as well. Fortunately he didn't take much convincing and thus we ended up having 4 days in New York City prior to heading over for the wedding. We arrived in NYC on the Sunday afternoon and after negotiating the subway (easier said than done with 2 suitcases)..we made it to our accomodation. The US military has a lodge in downtown Manhattan which is only $50pp per night - a ... read more

Hello from Oklahoma. I’m just east of Oklahoma City tonight after a leisurely 292 miles on the road. Had a slow dial up connection at Petit Jean so I didn’t upload an entry last night. Surprisingly I have an extended network connection with my cell phone (and therefore my cell broadband modem) here so I’m using the campground’s wireless. Not sure what to expect as far as coverage goes out in the boonies of Wichita Mountains NWR tomorrow and Friday. I looked at a Verizon coverage map and it appears I may in fact have better coverage than here on the outskirts of OKC. Go figure. So who knows if I’ll have a connection (or the time) to update the next couple of days? Yesterday was a nice, relaxing day on Petit Jean Mountain. It was ... read more
