Stout's PointView of the Arksansas River from Stout's Point on Petit Jean Mountain.
Hello from Oklahoma. I’m just east of Oklahoma City tonight after a leisurely 292 miles on the road.
Had a slow dial up connection at Petit Jean so I didn’t upload an entry last night. Surprisingly I have an extended network connection with my cell phone (and therefore my cell broadband modem) here so I’m using the campground’s wireless.
Not sure what to expect as far as coverage goes out in the boonies of Wichita Mountains NWR tomorrow and Friday. I looked at a Verizon coverage map and it appears I may in fact have better coverage than here on the outskirts of OKC. Go figure. So who knows if I’ll have a connection (or the time) to update the next couple of days?
Yesterday was a nice, relaxing day on Petit Jean Mountain. It was a bit nippy as the high only got up to 54 (after a balmy 80 on Monday).
I went back to Stout’s Point overlook before checking out the 50 plus antique and classic autos at The Museum of Automobiles.
I took a short walk to view Cedar Falls but there’s not much water flowing right now. It was still a

nice little outing.
For those of you who don’t know much about Petit Jean Mountain, it is Arkansas’ first state park. In 1953, Winthrop Rockefeller (grandson of John D. Rockefeller, Sr.) moved to Arkansas. His fascination with Petit Jean Mountain led to a purchase of significant acreage on the mountain. He began raising cattle on Winrock Farms. Winthrop is a former Arkansas Governor. He also founded The Museum of Automobiles and several of his cars are displayed there.
Here are a few images from Tuesday’s outings.
Since I’m “carrying my home” with me, it’s time to do the usual evening routine - clean up the dinner dishes!
I should arrive at Wichita Mountains NWR by lunchtime and hope to get set up and explore the area all afternoon. Bison roam the area so I’ll hopefully see them along with deer and other wildlife.
Hope I’ll be able to send updates while there.
Thanks for checking in and traveling along with me.

Turtle RocksThere are lots of interesting rock formations in the park. Here is an image of Turtle Rocks. It really looks like turtle shells.
