September 25, 2010: From Austin we hopped a plane to go to the wedding of Emily and Peter in Vermont--an east coast state. Emily is my youngest sister Becky's youngest child. Emily and Peter's wedding was so well planned, it allowed for all the guests to be comfortable and relaxed and simply enjoy the day/weekend. Nature cooperated with autumn foliage and a pleasant temperature. The crew of young nieces and nephews had lots of grass to run around on and play, and the wedding party all stayed together in a large country inn on the grounds. Emily's touch was everywhere--she grew all the flowers over the past summer and the tent was lined with photos of Emily and Peter, and also of their parents and grandparents. Peter's band, "The Grift", played the music for the night, ... read more

John had told me about the fall foliage in Vermont. I had to see it for myself. Marlyn tagged along for the trip. It was nice traveling with someone. Along the way we stopped for some ice cream at the Ben n' Jerry's facility.... read more

Greetings from Vermont! We left Lake Placid on Monday and headed to Vermont which wasn't very far but we had to take a ferry across Lake Champlain to get there. We were a little hesitant about this but hey life's an adventure right? Well you will see from the pictures that it was a piece of cake and quite an adventure all right. Considering the time and fuel that we saved by doing this it was well worth it. It only took 25 minutes to cross and it was a breeze. We even fit in lunch while we were going across so that saved us some time. Aren't we thrifty? Vermont is a very quaint state. The towns are all pretty small and very Mayberryish. We went to the Ben & Jerry ice cream factory and ... read more

Oh dear friends, I do so hope that you all have wonderful days like this in your future. Why, I ask myself, are we so lucky? What a wonderful day.... We slept in--heaven---and decided to stay in Montreal for the afternoon. First, I must mention that we had been upgraded to a Suite at the Residence Inn so we had two rooms and a balcony, along with a small kitchen, which we did not touch. So, after a normal hotel breakfast, we packed up, re-parked the car, and headed out to learn the intricacies of the subway, "le tube", en francais. We actually managed to arrive at the Bastille de Notre Dame just as the bells were ringing for noon. It is a beatiful cathedral and we wandered around, slipping the tour, until we had our ... read more

African Proverb Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn’t matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle. When the sun comes up, you better start running. We are now in Vermont, our point of entry is the northwest corner bordering NY and Quebec. We drove south on the peninsula to Grand Isle SP. After a stop at Ethan Allen Homestead (ho-hum), we took a scenic road in the ski area to Smuggler’s Notch SP. Stowe Mt. Resort is quite a lovely town, ultimately we found the Trapp Family Inn. Yes the Trapp Family eventually found ... read more

Walking across the stage and finally experiencing the moment of holding my degree. At long last, a two year journey of late nights, working through lunches, being a student while being on vacation, it has all come to an end. As of this posted date, my next work hard/play hard destination was in Vermont to finish my Master’s program, as well as celebrate. Now that my future trips and adventures will be true in name, absent of homework and papers, does this mean my travelblog entries will change as well? An answer only possible to find with the passage of time. Over the past two years, Norwich proved to be a very positive option for me. While I wanted to gain a Master’s in my field, this one being in Diplomacy with a Conflict Resolution focus, ... read more

Ok now i have a bit of time on a computer at our motel. So from our last update we made our way to Richford Vermont...it was kind of a wierd little town. Slept in the park which at first i wasn't too keen on, but it worked for a free place to throw up the tent. It rained really hard for about an hour. And then cleared up. The next day we got up and should have gotten an early start but were feeling a bit lazy and weren't too excited about doing this part of the river as we had drug the boat up rapids and really shallow areas the whole day before. Not fun. So we started asking for a ride somewhere, either to Newport or to the border of Quebec which was ... read more
