So...someone from the newspaper interviewed us and did a little article on us. Figured some of you would like to read it so i'll post the link. http://www.bangordailynews.com/detail/147824.html We've been thoroughly enjoying ourselves in Fort Kent. Well mosly just doing a lot of sleeping, eating, and reading. The people up here are so nice and we've been invited over to dinner and had great conversation! Still waiting to sell the canoe, and then we'll see if we have time to check out the coast! That would be nice! Oh took the Pequod out for one last adventure on the Fish River yesterday! It was a really nice river with a great current! Take care! Whit and Brian... read more

Sorry this is a long one, lots has happened!! After i last wrote we took a day off in Jackman. We woke up to rain and didn't feel like getting up and going. By noon though it cleared up and we still didn't feel like leaving. So we just bummed around all day, made some great hobo dinners over our neighbors fire! The next day we took off onto the Moose river and down to Long Pond. It was quite windy but it was on our backs so i got out the tarp and made a sail! We took down the 7 or 8 miles in a few short hours! Back onto the Moose river and before some huge rapids we got out to portage to Little and Big Brassua lakes. Got a little confused by ... read more

So...we had quite a tragic accident the other day and now have lost treasure below the dam at Spencer Lake, ME. Our camera. Yes. We got careless and somehow it slipped out without us noticing. We even swam around in the freezing cold water in hopes that it might have floated, nope. Anyways, had i have written a few days ago this email might come out a little more depressing, but we have had our mourning and have moved on! After Rangeley we started portaging to the main branch of the Dead River, and again were offered a ride. Took it of course and camped right by the river that night. Next morning we got up and got in to the river. The first part was great and was plenty deep but started getting shallow as ... read more

Ahoy from the great state of Maine! Fanstastic, beautiful state so far! We started in a few days ago. But starting from where i left you last. After we left Groveton, NH we started walking the canoe past all of the dams and to find a place to put in. Well past the last dam it was a bit steep on the banks and a little shallow for paddling. We saw some people sitting on their porch and asked if they knew where we could put in. Got to talking with them and they told us it was pretty shallow and a big storm was about to hit (literally a few minutes away). Anyways they said they would give us a ride somewhere like to a campspot so we could get in our tent before it ... read more

Quick update for y'all! Set out from New Port onto the Clyde River, oh actually we got a ride over the first section of it because it didn't sound like fun (or safe) and we didn't want to walk. Got to Salem Pond and little Salem Pond and then started UP the Clyde. Didn't make it as far as we wanted but got to a little town and bunked down for the night behind a little convenient store and got ready for the rain! Which came later that night and poured on into the next day! We hurried up and packed up during a break in the rain and ate breakfast at the store. Then onto the Clyde for a very wet day. But made it to Island Pond where Brian fell in love with ice ... read more

June 2nd 2010

Ok now i have a bit of time on a computer at our motel. So from our last update we made our way to Richford Vermont...it was kind of a wierd little town. Slept in the park which at first i wasn't too keen on, but it worked for a free place to throw up the tent. It rained really hard for about an hour. And then cleared up. The next day we got up and should have gotten an early start but were feeling a bit lazy and weren't too excited about doing this part of the river as we had drug the boat up rapids and really shallow areas the whole day before. Not fun. So we started asking for a ride somewhere, either to Newport or to the border of Quebec which was ... read more

Hello there! Just going to write quick because i don't have much time on the library computer. We're in Newport, taking another day for a break! We went into Quebec the last couple of days, definitely a highlight of our trip but i'll have to give details later. Back in Vermont today and woke up to sprinkling and then full on rain. We tried to paddle across to an actual campsite (didn't stay there last night because it's 25$ a night and didn't want to pay to only be there a few hours). Anyways started paddling and it seemed a bit choppy to paddle safely so i suggested portaging...i suppose either way we would be soaking wet. And we are. We tried getting a ride but all the people in big trucks just flew on by. ... read more

Alrighty! Have a few minutes at a local library in Enosburgh Falls Vermont! Vermont has been pretty country, lots of green of course, but not foresty like new york. Lots and lots of farms! And ya know that wonderful whiff of cows every here and there! Well we left Plattsburgh couple of nights ago i guess three or four days ago now. (losing track of time here...) We had to go into town that morning and pick stuff up and got a late start. Paddled to the ferry that took us across Lake Champlain. Had we have known that it was going to be a perfect day that day we might have gotten up early and just paddled it. But since it was the afternoon there were too many boats out making big wakes so it ... read more

Hello again! So took off from Saranac Lake about four days ago now. There were quite the lack of campsites from there to here so we really booked it through. We stayed the first night at Franklin Falls Pond. We were looking for a sweet campsite on an island, but someone was already there. We pulled up to see if there might be room for another tent. Nobody was there, they must have been out fishing. Anyways we walked around the island where those people had left a ton of dirty toilet paper all over. We were a bit annoyed and were going to poke it with a stick and put it in their fire place so they could burn it. Well there was too much to do that, so we just put a litttle there ... read more
