Flying to Europe can be a chore. The overseas flights tend to be in the evening, depositing you in Europe in the AM, but you arrive tired from getting no sleep on the plane. Some people can simply go out like a light, but I tend to stay awake, and feel horrible all day. The problem is, you can't go to sleep during the day because then you can't sleep that night. This time around, it worked out fairly well. We flew out at 5:30 to Frankfurt, then a one hour layover, connecting to Turkey via Turkish Air. By that time, you're so tired, you're operating on fumes, and you have to really push yourself to keep going, because you're not quite there. To add to the drama, a guy on the plane had a heart ... read more

Here I am, already slacking on this blog, and on the cusp of our big journey down that long road to adventure. We have not stopped moving for the past 48 hours, getting ready for this trip. The challenge stems from the fact that our departure just happens to coincide with all of our preparations for Spring. This entails many responsibilities in the yard and around the house. Way too many to think about. I did manage to accomplish many goals, and that feels good upon departure. The wood is cut, this Winter’s wood is mostly stacked, and the yard is in order. I was pondering cutting the grass, but decided to let it grow. Also, I sealed (hopefully) the garden from woodchucks, and the blueberries are properly prepped for Summer. Let’s hope for berries. We ... read more

We had a bit of drama just getting to the airport at the bus station, but it all turned out well and added to the overall adventure of our trip. It was sort of fun, actually, and made it interesting because it forced us to adapt and come up with a new plan. We ended up driving down to New London at their park and ride and catching the bus over there. Luckily, we had a couple of hours to spare, and it wasn't stressful. Looking at the bright side, and you always have to look at the bright side, if we had not gone to A's performance, we would have really been stressed because we would have had no time to spare. Either way, it all worked out. We caught the bus, had some food ... read more

We had a load of things to take care of before we flew out of Boston, but first and foremost was A's performance. She really wanted to get up there and play, so we scrambled to get things finished and wrapped up so we could leave early enough to catch her show, then make it to the bus which would take us to the airport. The show was a lot of fun, and we didn't realize, or rather, nobody told us (wah-wah) that we were supposed to make a lunch reservation and sit for the show. Everyone else seemed to know this, because the place was packed, and everyone sitting in the restaurant was really there for the show. Oh well, live and learn as usual. We managed to sit in the back and not be ... read more

March 19, 2011 offered a rare Celestial Event called a Perigree Moon. If you go to CNN today you can see some amazing photos of the moon on Saturday night. I've added a couple of my own. Clearly I need some photography lessons from Team Turner. We drove to Manchester, Vermont so that Merry Jo could travel to her 50th state. the moon was clear and crisp.... read more

We made an impromptu trip to Vermont over a weekend. Left right after work on Friday. There was still a little snow on the ground. We stayed at the Middlebury Inn, which is an old hotel on the national historic registry. Breakfast was included in our stay and we had pancakes with real Vermont maple syrup. The town of Middlebury is like something out of book. It is beautiful, quaint, and has been untouched by corporate chains. It is a college town that is small, but has a lot of things to do because of the college. On Saturday, we drove into Burlington and walked around the Church Street Market Place. It is a little too commercial, but a neat place to walk around. We also drove up by Lake Champlain and walked out on the ... read more

“Wow! Your house is truly beautiful” – It was. Eric and Benny were stood at the end of their drives off a quiet single track road on an Island in the middle of Lake Champlain, Vermont, USA. Behind them was a heart-warming view of New England in the fall, or autumn as I call it. They had matching large clapperboard houses on the east coast of the small Island. The houses were immaculate in their identical plots of verdant, religiously clipped green grass, and each had a matching car garage off to one side. Their large porches looked out over an un-interrupted view of the lake and the hills beyond. On this day in October the sun was setting behind us, casting comforting sun east over the millpond lake to the changing golden hills of Vermont ... read more

Another very short entry, but probably one of the prettiest entries we have made to date. LEAF-PEEPING ALONG ROUTE 100. Route 100 runs through the heart of Vermont. In the fall (around middle of October) the trees of New England gets ready for the winter and what follows is a color-spectacle like no other. Deep green turns to yellow, orange or a deep red. All around you it is just a color spectacle. Take your time. Drive slowly - very slowly. Don't be rushed. Take the occasional honk from the other motorists with a grain of salt. Living in Connecticut we just took the fast route up to NEWPORT. During the fall this part of the country gets pretty expensive with accommodation since there are not that many options in most places and it seems like ... read more

Gday again after a break. Too lousy to pay the $15 fee in the last hotel - so its catch up time. We have continued to have excellent weather for the past two days but that is ending as we type. Bucketing down outside and we could even get snow tonight. Not too bad tho considering we are staying in a substantial ski resort area - even if it is a little early. The Autumnal show has been magnificent although the higher you get, the more the trees are bare. Even had a chairlift ride up WildCat Mountain. Good fun. Hard to know what photos to attach - so there is a bit of a flood with us in them....... (ego is still healthy!) We have stopped for lunch - or "just to poke 'round"according to ... read more
