After being in the rocky, deserts of the Southwest, Vermont was a welcome change, with it's lush, green landscapes. Vermont is like no other state. In fact most people want to keep it that way. There are lots of charming little towns that still have stores that are OPEN right in the middle of the town! Rutland even made Walmart put it's store there. There are lots of quiet dirt roads with small old timey places to poke around in and of course LOTS of cows. If you go to Montpelier, be sure to try the maple creamee's at the Morse [View Full Entry]

Everyone seems to ask, “You must be excited about your trip.” Well, yes, in some ways, although at this point there is more energy going into planning/worrying/details than relaxing dreams of luxuriating on the beach somewhere. Not that we are asking for any sympathy, but traveling for a long period, I think, is different than a shorter vacation. Rather than leave the daily grind of regular life behind, a long trip brings a different set of daily challenges (although I know most people would gladly trade going to work everyday for figuring out how best to spend time in Thailand or [View Full Entry]

Answers to the Questions Everyone Asks Basics like Itinerary and Timeframe: Leaving August 25, 2005 and returning May 22, 2006. Flying Boston—Zurich (with our tandem bikes in tow), then biking from Switzerland to Spain through northern Italy, southern France and across Spain to Granada (8 weeks or so). Then a month in Granada, where we hope to study Spanish and will send our bikes home from there, then we have to get back to Barcelona where we fly to Israel for most of December. Tel Aviv to London on Christmas Day, where we are stuck for 3 days before we can [View Full Entry]

It is all too easy to wake up at 4 am thinking of things to do before we go, not the least of which is figuring out the details and entrails of the world of technology and travel. After the third try to email out this blog address (correctly) to everyone, I think I have it right (if you are here, you found it!). Now to figure out how to upload photos here (at least from this computer), then to figure out how to do this from our camera or the IPOD or the handheld computer. For those wondering about what [View Full Entry]

We flew to Newark Airport from Salt Lake City via Houston. There was a cool space shop in the airport and we were so tempted to buy stuff but felt it would be a little fake as we were not actually visiting the space centre or even Houston, we were only here to swap planes so resisted buying space paraphernalia and space food for our kids (or was my husband really buying it for himself... hmmmm interesting :) On domestic flights in the United States there is hardly any food served, so with two planes to catch we spent most of [View Full Entry]

I have now completed my three weeks of staff training and am now a certified van driver! Since my last journal I have been climbing, mountain biking, country dancing, out for blueberry pancakes, shopping and spent my two days off in Vermont. It has been awesome! In Vermont I stayed in a house right by a lake and went swimming, kayaking and just chilled out. Just want I needed to recover from all my hard work! Now only a few hours left of freedom until the kids arrive. I have one group of 12 and am living with a group of [View Full Entry]

Now that the school year has ended, we must get to real planning for end of August RTW departure date. All these technology questions are so different from travel way back in the late 80s when a paper diary and pen were the only recording device I needed. Now: digital camera, ipod, pda or laptop???? Adapters, chargers, flash memory cards, blogsites.... Hard to know what is really worth having and what is too much. And if we bring this tech stuff, what will really work (is there WiFi in Laos?), how to upload frmo pda to a site like this, how [View Full Entry]
