This place was amazing. If you are ever in Oklahoma City, this is a must see. I spent 1/2 a day there and it was not enough time. However, you do extensive walking and I got very tired. Inside you will find: . Many galleries of western art and sculptures. . Galleries of native American art and sculptures. . A gallery dedicated to Rodeos. . A gallery dedicated to the Military in the west. . An entire gallery dedicated to Colt weapons. You must see it to believe it. ... read more

We sent 4 days in Gutherie, OK at a wonderful RV park. It is surrounded by two golf courses with all pull thru sites with full hookups except cable. It has a very good wifi system. The people who run the park are extremely friendly and helpful. I would recommend this park to all. This was my base of operations to visit the area.... read more

Visited the National Memorial today. It was an overcast day, rather gloomy actually. Sort of fits. It is daunting to visit the site. I have included a number of photos which explain what I saw. I did not go into the museum as I wanted to visit another place and would not have enough time nor strength. If you are ever in Oklahoma City. This is a must see. ... read more

There’s Tulsa time and then there’s Wichita Mountains time. I have discovered yet another wonderful location across our fruited plains!!! We are so blessed to have such a diverse country to explore. Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge is definitely worth the detour off the beaten path. I arrived just before noon on Thursday and had my pick of 10 of the 13 sites with electricity. I either forgot or didn’t read there was no water on the individual sites. No problem as they had water available. Since I wasn’t assigned a site and could pick and choose, I unhooked the Jeep in a parking area near the electric loop section. I filled the fresh water tank in the RV and then drove around in the Jeep to choose my site. At first I was going to take ... read more

Hello from Oklahoma. I’m just east of Oklahoma City tonight after a leisurely 292 miles on the road. Had a slow dial up connection at Petit Jean so I didn’t upload an entry last night. Surprisingly I have an extended network connection with my cell phone (and therefore my cell broadband modem) here so I’m using the campground’s wireless. Not sure what to expect as far as coverage goes out in the boonies of Wichita Mountains NWR tomorrow and Friday. I looked at a Verizon coverage map and it appears I may in fact have better coverage than here on the outskirts of OKC. Go figure. So who knows if I’ll have a connection (or the time) to update the next couple of days? Yesterday was a nice, relaxing day on Petit Jean Mountain. It was ... read more

We left Joplin, Missouri at 9.30am and 10 minutes down the road we entered Kansas - No sign of Dorothy though, I guess she is still in Oz with Toto. Anyway - Thats completely irrelevant! We stopped at a local shop to grab a souvenir from Kansas and the owner had just started a route 66 travellers signature book, she asked us to sign it as her first three. We then felt pretty comfortable with where we were heading so up went the stereo with classic 80's tunes and some bopping away by us all, (to be honest though Katie was really going for it!) not so long later (whilst still going for it) Katie attempted to tell Nige he needed to stop, unable to hear me due to the stereo, Katie continued in her actions ... read more

Thursday (13th) Wayne and I went to the hospital for appointment with Orthopaedic Doctor who wanted more x-rays on ankle and wrist to ensure all okay. Took most of the morning whilst Chris and Dean collected the U-haul van, strapped the bikes in securely and changed the drop off to Las Vegas as no Eaglerider depot in Santa Fe. Headed towards the boarder 'run for the boarder', stopped at a couple of spots for photo's, huge cross with statues - used a golf cart to get around site. Now in Texas and arrived at Amarillo Super 8, went shopping at Wal-Mart, using a motorised wheelchair, great fun when worked out how in goes. Guys took photo's but I didn't care - all got bits to now go in the U-Haul - no longer a one backpack ... read more

We slept in this morning, getting up at 7:45, had breakfast and a walk and continued on our eastward journey on Route 40. The scenery was mostly flat, a few hills, a mesa here and there, and power poles and towers. There was one straight section of road where I saw a tower at the horizon and I counted the miles that we could see ahead of us - it was 14 miles. We past two distant wind farms to the south of the highway while in New Mexico. We crossed over the state line into Texas. This was our first time ever in this state. We lost another hour and are now in Central Time Zone. As we crossed the state line we noticed that white grass replaced the dirt on the flat roadsides. There ... read more

My trip from Kansas City to Tulsa was pleasant. Quite a few of the fields lining the highway were flooded in the southern part of Missouri, I have been lucky to avoid some of the record rain fall that has been experienced in the American heartland. The TV station in Tulsa said that they are more than 11” ahead of normal rainfall with four months still to go. One of the draws to visit Tulsa was to visit our good friend, Tony. Wally first met Tony when he went to college in Stoke on Trent back in 1964. Tony had moved to South Africa, then in the early 1980s he moved to the U.S. and was employed by Acme Brick, when Wally joined Acme our friendship was renewed. We had visited Tony and his family in ... read more

It took us 8.5 hours to get to Fort Worth. We stayed with Jared’s friend’s Cody and Sarah. They have a beautiful custom built house in a quiet development. Sarah is due to have a baby any day now... we took a tour of the house and looked at the nursery, it was so cute! We hung out in the living room and watched a tv show, “Army Wives”, then went to sleep b/c we were so tired from the long drive (and the hurricane’s). On Tuesday we drove to Oklahoma City…on the way there we drove through the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. It was AMAZING! I felt like I could reach up and touch the clouds, they were so low. We drove through the refuge and saw a herd of buffalo. We saw one by ... read more
