I went home to Tulsa to see the family. It was a great little time. Saw the brother and the mom and dad and the papa and gramma and even the little dog. One night we drove out to the middle of nowhere to see comets and shooting stars. Another evening we went to see the Tulsa Drillers baseball team be slaughtered in a sweltering baseball defeat that will go down in history. I got to see my old teachers Byron Shen and Gary Sweeney too. Drew and Byron and I went for a game of golf. Oh, and of course, how could I forget the goose that my Dad's friend Fred cooked. It was positively succulent. Cheers.... read more

Welcome to Day Two! We woke up this morning around 8am, showered, ate some cereal and headed out on the road. We got a bit turned around in the beginning, just finding our way back to Route 66, but after we found it it was smooth sailing....we kind of. We finished up Missouri and continued on to Kansas, a whopping 13.2 miles!!! In Kansas we passed over the Marsh Arch Bridge (the last of its kind), it was very cool (sorry that it is a bit crooked). After passing over the bridge and driving a couple more miles of Kansas we crossed the state line into Quapaw, Oklahoma. In Quapaw we passed the Spanish Revival-style Coleman Theater. Many more miles down the road we entered the town of Miami, Oklahoma only to find out that ... read more

This all started in 2003 with a casual comment made at my dinner table by mentor and friend, Jim S, "Janet, you should go to the Orff Institute." I hadn't even thought about it before, and certainly didn't consider that I might get to go someday. I glanced at Lisa across the table and her eyes lit up. We've been planning for it every since then. Thanks to Fund for Teachers (http://www.fundforteachers.org) for making it all happen. They have given us an opportunity of a lifetime to go and experience Orff at the Mozarteum, the place where Gunild Keetman herself co-founded the Orff Institute. We're looking forward to rich and rewarding musical experiences in Orff process. We also expect to be challenged, but we hope that we don't have homework! This will give us the opportunities ... read more

Day Two, Part One, Friday, June 29, 2007 Woke up and left Hays around 10:30ish after having sandwiches for breakfast. The only difference today in regards to the view is that it is sunny, other than that it is still flat farmland. Today seems more beautiful though, maybe because we are getting used to the view? I do like mountains though and there is not much water around either… Much easier to tell the difference between cattle and bales of hay in the sun too! Thank you for the clarification Susan! Elan: “We couldn’t have done it without you Aunt Susan!” ☺ Also bales of hay are brown while the cattle are sometimes brown but often white or black! Lots of fields of corn everywhere. We read that Interstate 70 is Main Street, USA. It goes ... read more

June 26, 2007-June 27, 2007 Arrived at the ANC airport in good time. Though we did not pay attention to which terminal, north or south. Went to south first and of course we had to go back to the north one for Continental. More signs would have been nice. Took advantage of curbside baggage check in which was rather nice. Once I got in the airport there were many people in the building. Stood in line for a bit before getting through, had to put gels, pastes and liquids into my small ziploc while standing in line, forgot to do that at home. Now I'm waiting with so many people, so many in fact we are sitting on the floor lining the hallway. All seats are taken. I wonder where people are all headed? I suppose ... read more

Day 17 So, last night was an adventure. We had severe thunderstorm warnings with high wind damage possibilities. 50 mph winds with gusts up to 70mph. The camper was rocking and we heard something in the bathroom. Opening the door, we saw that the wind had ripped off our vent. After stopping to purchase some souvenirs, we bought a new vent. When Benji went to install our new vent, he realized it didn’t fit and we headed back to the store. Mike called us. It was nice to hear from him. But his news wasn’t good. There’s major flooding in the area we’re headed into. And, he told us we left a shirt, sock, and our garbage can. We knew about the can and sock. Loooong day. Lots of driving. And, like always, my phone ... read more

Arrived 2 and a half hours late! Plane was delayed in Houston, TX then no pilot, then bad weather, then too much weight on the plane... Finally got to see Elan, take a look at him, being a civilian agrees with him! Went around OKC picking up stuff for the roadtrip then to Pho Noodles for dinner. Got an intro to Lucy, more on her later. Weather is hot and sunny even though Elan said I would be in rainy weather and we want to leave by Thursday to get out of the bad weather. Of course off in the distance one can see ominous dark clouds. Went to the weigh station to weigh the empty car and tomorrow back again to weigh it full, something for his records. Back to his apartment, some sprinkling and ... read more

The Team is back nested in the familiar with sweet thoughts of the past 3 weeks. As the days unfold and we have had time to process all we experienced, the impact of our trip is taking hold. Son & Mom will never be the same. We will attempt to share the major observations from the trip, leaving the most intimate thoughts just between The Team. * As much as the liberal news media would want the world to believe, the God Bless the USA is truly blessed by God and is a phenomenal place to live. Citizens in the US have the option to live the Simple Life as in the countryside in Romania BUT US citizens also have access within a few miles to the best the world has to offer. The Team ... read more

Two rounds down in Oklahoma, lets hope there are two more. I shot rounds of 72 yesterday and 68 today. Currently it is up in the air whether I will make the cut or not. It is hard to imagine shooting 4 under for two days and possibly making the cut, but I guess that’s how it goes some weeks. Yesterday’s 72 was a very good ball striking day and not a very good putting day. I believe I hit 14 greens but only had 2 birdies to show for it. Throw in a couple of bad bogies and you have 72, T-99th. It was just one of those days where I could not get anything going at all, but as good as I hit the ball I really did not feel bad about my round. ... read more

UntitledChristopher E. and Elizabeth F.It is T-Minus 5 days until we leave for Florence. I am working today and tomorrow and taking the rest of the week off to pack and get ready. I am kind of sad to leave because my internship at the Federal Defender's office has been extremely rewarding and I am learning so much. I am so excited to travel through Europe again, and especially to be back in Italy. Rome is my favorite city and I always get a familiar feeling while I am there. Maybe I lived there in a past life...or maybe it's the delicious gelato. While we are in Rome, we are going to see the Vatican and have lunch with the Ambassador to the Vatican (my former neighbor). I also want to go back to the Colliseum ... read more
