Thursday (13th) Wayne and I went to the hospital for appointment with Orthopaedic Doctor who wanted more x-rays on ankle and wrist to ensure all okay. Took most of the morning whilst Chris and Dean collected the U-haul van, strapped the bikes in securely and changed the drop off to Las Vegas as no Eaglerider depot in Santa Fe. Headed towards the boarder 'run for the boarder', stopped at a couple of spots for photo's, huge cross with statues - used a golf cart to get around site. Now in Texas and arrived at Amarillo Super 8, went shopping at Wal-Mart, using a motorised wheelchair, great fun when worked out how in goes. Guys took photo's but I didn't care - all got bits to now go in the U-Haul - no longer a one backpack biking holiday! Collected by Limo and taken to the Big Texas - 72 oz steak. Great food and people!!! Enjoyed evening throughly and got more t-shirts, etc.
Friday (14th) headed out, stopping at HD shop and then towards the state line, crossing over and stopping at Dairy Queen for ice cream and break. Lunch at Adian Midpoint Cafe 1139 to Chicago and 1139 miles
to Los Angeles along the original alinement, so the owner stated. Yummy ugly pie as detailed in Dean's map book! Stopped at Cadillac Ranch where 10 cars are sticking out of the ground, covered in grafety. Long way to Alberquerque but made it to the Super 8. Olive Garden for food which had never ending soup and salad, very nice pizza.
Saturday (15th) changed time zones and Dean's alarm went off early so headed out earlier than expected (good thing), views and bridges along way, stopping at El Rancho (film star restaurant) for lunch, went to meotour site which was very interesting before heading to Flagstaff, sun coming down and hard for the guys to see again. Got some sunset photo's. Went to Outback Restaurant.
Sunday (16th) headed towards Grand Canyon, fantastic views and spent a couple of hours at main viewing point and in gift shop. Miles and miles along Route 66, trying to find somewhere to stop for food, found Roadkill Cafe, apparently can bring your own animals for them to cook! Travelled with sun going down again, arriving at Kingman Super 8, all got in U-Haul van (bit of a squash) to Denny's for food
- not great food!
Monday (17th) Up later as few miles to do today, heading towards Hoover Dam, taking photos and having lunch on the other side at a Casino. Next stop Las Vegas to drop off two of the bikes, will be a relief. Guy was okay, 'it happens' but girl in shop was very offish, paid excess and left. Super 8 in Las Vegas biggest in America and even had jacussi which was fab for the bruises! Hot and cold them. Guys borrowed a wheelchair and scotted me along the strip for food at Chinese Buffet that Dean had been last time he was here. Very nice but had difficulty on the esculator. Taken back to room, guys went to casino next door or did washing! I sleet well!
Tuesday (18th) Stayed here in Las Vegas - no riding. Wayne and Chris took the U-Haul van back and got a Buick 4by4. Dean and I had a leisurly breakfast - pancakes mmm! All went out to HD shop, Hard Rock Cafe for lunch and then onto shopping mall, got tracksuit and Timberland Boots (needed for journey home). Had another dip in the jaccussi before headed to
the Harley Cafe for food - really nice food and atmosphere, had bikers moving around room. On way back stopped to watch water display and into casino for a little flutter. Lost Wayne and headed back to motel, Wayne arrived about 15 minutes later.
Wednesday (19th) Guys enjoyed day off from riding and reluctant to get back on bikes. Headed towards state line, stopping to take photo's now in California and at Essex. Arrived at Pasadina Super 8, found mexican restaurant so all set. Watched CSI before sleep.
Thursday (20th) Travelled to Santa Monica Pier on the outskirts of Los Angeles to comlete the Route 66 and had lunch at Bubba Gump (Forrest Gump memorbilia) very nice food but got it thrown down me, not a good look! Headed off for last leg dropping bikes in Los Angeles, very hard to find although phoning them up, eventually asked two bikers en route and they were going there. Guys glad to have dropped bikes off and now head to the last HD shop on trip. Got a few bits, guy chatted me up in the shop (nice) and heading back to Santa Monica for accommodation for the next two
nights. Got rooms at Best Western on the sea front with views. Chris and Dean had problems as only one bed! Went to Italian Restaurant along Third Street Promanade, yummy calaone and then to bed.
