Hello Everyone! Only 3 more days until I depart for Mumbai, India for the month of July! I'm putting the finishing touches on packing my bags and getting ready for the adventure of a lifetime. I just received my recovery medical supply package from CFHI this past weekend. It is filled with a variety of medical supplies (syringes, gloves, cathader kits, alcohol swabs, etc.) that are collected from various hospitals around the country that would otherwise be thrown out. CFHI then organizes the supplies and ships them to students participating in their international medical elective programs. The students then carry the supplies to their host country as a donation- a great way to be introduced to the country and the medical staff! I will update this blog as often as possible to keep everyone up ... read more

That seems to be the theme of every day for me. Although, to be fair, I'm a much better last minute packer - I'm talking '30 minutes until I need to leave for the airport' kind of last minute, I guess it's just a gift I have. It's definitely not heriditary because when my parents leave for a trip the luggage is in the front room of the house days before (not sure if this is an actual function of them being anally prepared or an indication of their immense desire to leave the cold/rain weather that so marks our region). Anywho, I'm looking at not a lot of time before the journey and have been trying to sharpen up some Spanish so I can at least make it from the Aeropuerto (see?)a la casa SIN ... read more

Day three of our Cape Cod vacation was devoted to whale watching. I had researched the big 3 companies on the Cape; Portuguese Princess (www.princesswhalewatch.com) and Dolphin Fleet (www.whalewatch.com) out of Provincetown and Hyannis Whale Watcher out of Barnstable (www.whales.net). We decided to go with Portuguese Princess for several reasons. First, they didn't charge admission for my 4 year old. Secondly, they offered a family discount rate of $90 for two adults and two children. That made sailing with them about $50 cheaper than sailing with the Hyannis group. Finally, I thought driving out to Provincetown would be interesting (I had heard it was an eclectic, artsy little village with great people watching) and I really wanted to see the rest of the Cape. We packed up our cooler and headed out to P-Town. The ride ... read more

Hi - I woke up this morning very excited - my bags are all packed, and there's not much left to attend to. Since I'm going to be exhausted when I arrive in Rome, I figure I may as well send the first leg of my trip. But since I won't be able to fill you in on the specifics of the first leg, I'll just have to make them up: Logan was a mess - one of those elder-cart drivers plowed into one of the de-icing trucks on the runway (don't ask me what it was doing there), and my flight was delayed by 4 hours. When I finally got in the air the two five-year-old twins behind me fought the entire way. Thankfully, one of the flight attendants slipped some vodka into their milk ... read more

“What evil spirits have you familiarity with? None. Have you made no contract with the devil? No. Why do you hurt these children? I do not hurt them. I scorn it. Who do you employ then to do it? I employ no body. What creature do you employ then? No creature. I am falsely accused “ Her defense was useless. She was hanged anyway. Along with 19 others. Her crime - she was accused of being a witch. You may scoff at this now, but in 1692 people did believe in witches and witchcraft. This is the real defense of “Sarah Good" in the Salem Witch trials. It may have been over 300 years ago, but Salem still is all about the witches trial. The story goes thus …some teenagers in the small village of ... read more

Day two of our budget vacation started off with beautiful breezy weather. We slept in and my husband got up and made everyone pancakes. I packed lunches in our cooler and then we were off to Hyannis to take part in the Pirate Adventures Cruise on the Sea Gypsy (www.pirateadventurescapecod.com). According to the website, the pirate cruise leaves from the harbor and is geared towards ages 3-11. Reservations are required, but truth be told, I called them the morning of the cruise at 8am and was able to get a same day reservation for the 2pm sailing. I didn't want to book too far ahead because I wanted to make sure we had great weather. There are restaurants on the harbor,Baxter's or Tugboats, that sell seafood and have great views of the ships. What I was ... read more

I thought it was about time I finalized my travel blog. I have been back in the U.S. for almost two weeks. My last days in Italy were so wonderful and amazing. I checked out of my Tuscan hostel and said goodbye to my roommates. I checked into The Hotel Derby in Florence, with a beautiful view of the city, especially the Duomo. I relaxed a little on the rooftop and then went to further explore Florence. I walked over the Ponte Vecchio looking mostly at the scenery. I walked along the river to discover some new amazing sites but the further I got away from my hotel the more menacing the sky started to look. I decided I better turn around so I wouldn't get caught in a rain shower. I was about a ... read more

Doing Cape Cod cheaply means finding the right accommodations. I have rented vacation homes/villas before; once in Orlando and once in the Hamptons. Having had great luck with them, I decided to give it a go again. The websites I poured over were www.vrbo.com, www.cyberrentals.com and www.weneedavacation.com. These all have homes, villas, or condos for rent by owner which is sometimes much cheaper than going with a rental agency which tacks on a fee. The vacation home owner usually holds a security deposit which is refunded after your stay. Sometimes you will be required to sign a rental agreement. One thing I noticed about Cape Cod while searching for homes is there are a few weeks during the summer season that you might find cheaper than others. Many homeowners had the last week in June discounted ... read more
