My drive to the Cape Cod National Seashore was longer than I thought it would be, but I was so glad to finally arrive. I checked into a private campground operated by a couple I met in Maui last fall. We went to dinner at a Mediterranean restaurant, then walked P-town (Provincetown), which was a hoot on Friday night. This town is very lively, with lots of gays and lesbians, trinket shops, and of course art galleries (I really enjoyed the photography at Steve Katz Gallery). A number of bars had piano players or other entertainment, which was fun to watch. Also, some shows had their stars trying to lure you to come to the show. They were funny folks, some transvestites, others just barely clad as women, with lots of funny come on li... read more

Weer is goed. Rond de 30 graden steeds. Morgen CN tower, en dan naar Niagrafalls.... Groet!!! ... read more

Saturday, July 21 2007 Molly & I spent a lovely morning with her friend from college, Natalia. Molly & I had bought some malawach at the Israeli market and so we took it to Natalia’s to make there. Natalia made some wonderful Arabic coffee for us. Notice Natalia’s beautiful living room, she has such good taste in colors! ☺ Molly’s off to work at Bluestone-Pizza/MiddleEastern food now while I putter around and plan to go to bed early. Molly’s Thoughts I think I look to much like my brother….it’s a tad bit scary. Yes I understand we’re related and all, but still its scary. Ok so how does this relate to a travel blog? Well I saw pictures of him on this and pictures of me and well one thought led to another and I decided ... read more

I had to drag myself out of bed this morning. I was not looking forward to the 5 hour drive to my aunt's. Mom and I went out to Sugar and Spice for breakfast. It is in an old barn with three levels, and they make their own maple syrup. I watched them while we waited for our food! I had pumpkin pancakes that tasted just like pumpkin pie once you added the syrup. YUM. The gift shop was more of the same, and we drove out to Chittenden Dam. It was a beautiful drive. One house owner had put Muck boots of flowers on all his posts. I forgot my camera though! We hung out at the apartment until I stopped procrastinating at 1 pm. The traffic was insane on 95 around Boston, and getting ... read more

The Hector is the little ship that brought 189 Scots to Nova Scotia in 1773, forming the first Scottish settlement in "New Scotland". The Mayflower, most of you will know, was the slightly larger ship that brought 102 people to Massachusetts from England (actually 2 were from the Isle of Man - Myles Standish and his wife). Just as the replica of the Mayflower can be seen and boarded in Plymouth, the replica of the Hector can be seen and boarded in Pictou, Nova Scotia. For those of us who are Canadians of Scottish descent, our own pilgrimage to Pictou can be just as moving as the journey to see where the Pilgrims landed is for Americans. Many Americans are very proud that they can trace their family tree back to the Mayflower. The ironic twist ... read more

Boston has been our favourite place so far - very much a Uni town with a really good feel. We spent a total of four days exploring the place and seeing the sights, but it must have rained on a least two of these days. We've learnt that a lot of America's history is based around this part of the country and almost always has something to do with the British. Either us invading or the Americans trying to get rid of us. On the day we arrived we spent the afternoon doing washing (this really made us feel like we were back at uni) and went out for dinner at a Vietnamese resturant and finishing the night off watching the Red Sox getting spanked by Kansas City in a bar. On our first full day ... read more

UntitledWell, I finally got this blog set up. I would have done it sooner, but who really wants to hear about needles the doctor insisted on sticking in my arms. I have spent the past month researching all the places we will go...maybe. It seems that even though SE Asia is a mere 480,000 sq. mi. (approx an 1/8 of the size of the U.S. and for you New Englanders, NE is 70,000 sq. mi.) covering all of that territory will be difficult as transportation is unreliable. This is yet to be seen though. Laos, for example, doesn't have a railroad system AT ALL. It can't be any worse than the road to Timbukto...can it? I am always interested in how people live in these far off places of the world, duh why else would i ... read more

Anchorage to Detroit to Boston Tuesday, July 17, 2007 Elan dropped me off at the airport and I headed in around 5:30. Check-in was not too bad but the line to go through security was rather long and tedious. They had one detector open and the TSA man was taking a very long time to check and ask questions. Then we had to show the man who was guiding people through the metal detector our boarding passes again. Got to my gate with plenty of time and waited to board. The Northwest Airlines plane was full they told us; boarding was done though with an all call for all rows to board at once! Of course this took forever. I had a middle seat-ugh! The worst part was the man in the aisle seat who was ... read more

Friday (July 13th) & Saturday (July 14th): This weekend was such a blur. The booze consumption was so much, even for our pro-level standards. Alyssa warned me that her friends could drink, but I thought it was "girl-speak," where things are seen through rose-colored shades. Yknow, like when a girl says her friend is "cute;" we all know what that usually means. I stand corrected. These girls could DRINK! As I said, the weekend was a blur, so I'm just going to include a highlight reel here. If anyone who participated wants to add things that I missed, feel free to in the comments. I'll try to stay somewhat chronological. There was karaoke at the Sea Dogs on Friday. That's a given. Highlights include Dave and I doing our famous duet of "Faithfully." Instead of ... read more

Thursday: At midnight, our friend Whitney turned 21. That should've been all the encouragement we needed, but there was the added incentive of the Beer Olympics weekend. Whitney and Brion's roommate, Alyssa, invited a ton of their college friends down to the Cape for sun and debauchery. They started to arrive during the day and early evening when Whit and I were tending bar. I got my first hint at the trouble this weekend was going to cause when my cousin Brion texted me and asked if it was ok if he and Dave could come in for a drink. For those who are unfamiliar with that situation, although Dave is one of my best friends, he was under a temporary ban from the Fairway for his actions on St. Patty's Day. That's a story ... read more
