October 4 - 6, 2007 This was my first time ever going to the New England area and I absolutely adored it. I flew into Logan International at 5pm on the 4th of October. Landing I could see hundreds - probably thousands - of sailboats and all of these old 3 or 4-story homes that you see on TV and look haunted. It was exactly how I pictured New England looking. I stayed at the Hyatt Harborside Hotel which is across the harbor from downtown Boston. The view from my room was amazing! I went downstairs and had dinner at the hotel restaurant and the view from my seat was the sun setting over Boston. As the lights came on I grabbed my camera and took some pictures of the city all lit up. Breathtaking! I ... read more

Visited Countries Map I have lived in The wonderful state of Massachusetts all my life and I have visited places like Plymouth rock, the Mayflower,Bunker Hill and various over historical sites and can't believe how many people still have not visited Massachusetts. We have a myriad of state parks you can both tent and Rv camp like Myles standish state park, Wampatuck and many more and be right next door to some of the places I mentioned. Trust me when I tell you This state has a lot more to offer than people give it credit for.... read more

It was a frantic flapping of struggle as a broiler chicken’s wings slammed against a white plastic bucket. It was having its jugular cut. Being “processed”. I didn’t think I’d even make it though the demonstration, but I wanted to try. The team of us volunteers, all hands on, were to finish off all the broilers on the farm today. Let me cut the suspense up-front and tell you, there’s no blood on my hands, but I wasn’t completely innocent. The process goes pretty much like this: You drag the chickens over to the designated area, mostly out of the visitors’ gaze, but hey - we’re a farm. The set-up resembles a macabre county fair picnic area, two white plastic tables, wobbly chairs, and some weapons of mass destruction. Not to mention some mood music blasting ... read more

What a day. I’ve done more new things today than in the last 12 months combined, including chasing escapees, milking goats, watching a bovine lull through labor and pushing my vegetarian self. Below you’ll get only the stories on the edge of life and death. Details of the other escapades coming soon… Part I I really had paid no attention to Nicole until this morning. Everyone else goes on and on about her, waiting for her impending labor. Right before chores this morning, though, I stopped and admired her. A Jersey cow of mixed light browns and blacks, and just about the sweetest cow face I’ve ever seen. She was already a week late, so everyone’s been bubbling over with anticipation (though a new group of ducklings did steal the show a bit yesterday). We were ... read more

Dave and I left Maryland around 8:30 am. We drove over the the Delaware Memorial Bridge, into Pennsylvania, up the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey, into New York and over the Tapanzee Bridge. We then went through Connecticut, into Rhode Island, and finally into Massachusetts. We drove over the Braga Bridge in Fall River, up Route 24 and onto Route 44 and then we arrived home at about 4:45 pm. It was great to be home. We were met by Jessica, Keith, Sammantha and Brooke. Jessie had cleaned our house for us and also cooked supper for us. What a GREAT daughter! Footnote: Dave went to the doctor's Tuesday morning and then went to the hospital for an ultrasound. They found a blood clot in his leg and admitted him to the hospital immediately. As ... read more

Hey everyone, sorry we havent updated in a while. A bit slack, and we couldnt find the internet anywhere. Well, its everywhere, but its all WiFi. Well, we've finished with Chicago. Its an ok city, kinda boring and really not set up for tourists which was really noticable for us having been all over the place. Plus we took a tour when the Bears were playing on Sunday arvo. Which basically shuts down half the city. I cracked my head on a trolley bus and broke my glasses again, so I threw a shitty. Which was fun for all. Especially Abbey. Then we moved on to Niagara Falls. Now, we got a hotel that was in Niagara falls, but apparently that doesnt mean it has to be anywhere close to Niagara Falls. It felt like we ... read more

Apologies for the delay in entries- travelling in a group for once meant there was no chance to stop at a library to put an entry in. So just over 3 weeks ago Shazza and I picked my brother Jimmy from the airport in Montreal. It was great to see the first familiar face from home in 7 months, let alone my younger bro's (who I hadn't seen for almost 18 months). I formally introduced Jimmy to Shazza, although they'd already heard a lot about each other. He was impressed to see her, and Shazza was pretty happy to have someone to navigate the way back to the hostel, situated in Old Montreal. Unlike Quebec City, Montreal is a mixture of the old, classic buildings on cobblestone streets, as well as modern architecture. We caught up ... read more

I have to say, it’s the one thing I’ve been squeamish about since the second day here on the farm. They failed to mention in the job description: handling machinery. Intimidating, rusty, unreliable, putt-putt gas-guzzling machinery. I certainly wasn’t up first this time. I let some chic about 30 lbs lighter and 13 years younger get up on that beast. I let one more volunteer go, then mustered up the courage. And up until the moment I was in that torn leather seat, was thinking No Way. Nuh-Uh. Then, feeling the brakes jump a bit under my foot and rear while I lifted the bucket up off the ground, a teensy bit of testosterone pumped into my blood. Power. Invincibility. There’s an entire sequence, which I used as a soothing repetitive preoccupation of my nervous ... read more
