Today we was an exciting day filled with a lot of work. We woke up at about 7:00 and got ready for the day. We left at about 8:30 a.m. and went and met up with Yin and Chris at the Kawaihae Pier. We went down to the pier to work on the canoe Makali'i which means small eye, with Chadd Paishon a captain and navigator. In 1976 Chadd and a bunch of others built a canoe, Hokulea and sailed to Tahiti under the navigation of Mau Piailug from Satawal an island in Micronesia. Mau taught them how to navigate using just the stars, moon, sun, and the feeling of the ocean. Chadd gave us a history and showed us around the canoe. It is a very large canoe. It was finished in Febuary 4, 1995 ... read more

As usual we got up to an early start. The girls and Heather departed the doors at 7:20 a.m. Jan Straley left the house at about 7 o'clock with Chris and Yen to ride on the boat. They took a cruise around the ocean taking photo's of whales flukes. The rest of us drove to Weimea where the Hawaii Preparatory Academy School is to visit with Gary Jarvill. It is about a 20 minute drive from the house. As arriving into the parking lot, Heather called Mr. Jarvill wondering where he was at. We waited for him to meet us at the parking space between the dorms and the school. When Jarvill came, he gave each and every one of us a huge welcome. We were all so stoked to see our teacher from when we ... read more

We stayed in Hawaii till the 4th March and loved every minute its beautiful. We did heaps of things here, north shore tour, big island tour, pearl harbour (sad place). Yay our skin finally got some sun again. Chris and I did a dinner cruise for our one year anniversary. Was beautiful, saw whales and its baby, dolphins and the best sunset ever (and the stupid camera went flat right on sunset then worked again as soon as it was finished). We will definitly come here again.... read more

Today we had an early start as usual. Got ready and out of the doors at 8:30 a.m. This morning it rained for the first time, which is funny because it's the dry side of the big island. We drove to the National Park Service called Pu'ukohola Heiau to see and hear about the black tip reef sharks. We saw about 7 overall. After hearing Kat's and Lehua presentations of the sharks, we walked along the beach. Our feet got seriously diirrttyy from the mud. Mary and Nia found some wicked shells shaped like cones. Our group walked with Chris and Jan passing the temple of the whale along the way to the Vistors Center. We looked through the Vistors Center and learned great facts about Pu'ukohola Heiau. At the Vistors Center there were displays of ... read more

Today was a mellow day. We woke up around 8:00 am and started cleaning and packing. We had to tie luggage to the top of the the van and it was like tetris putting the luggage and gear in the van. At 12:30 we finally left the house to have lunch. We got some sushi and went to the park to eat it. It was a nice park with a waterfall and some surfers. Afterwards, we started the hour and a half drive to the other side of the island, Kona. Us girls passed out for the whole trip. Once we got to the house we checked it out and unpacked. The house is so nice. After we unpacked we decided to relax and watch some t.v. for the first time all trip. The sun was ... read more

Aloha! We had a great time with Katie and Kevin in Kauai hiking, surfing, eating, drinking, and hanging out. We arrived our first night welcomed with a beautiful sunset and a keg party down the street. It was quite interesting to say the least. The next morning a stop at the local Costco was in order. We picked up a foam longboard to make our surf board collection complete and to ensure that the beginners in the group, aka Lizzie, didn't get a concussion. We had a fun weekend exploring the island and searching for the local surf spots; Kevin was happy to have a parter in crime! Kauai is a very mountainous island and is known for their spectacular hiking. We hiked the Kahili Ridge trail which had great views but a few obstacles. The ... read more

This morning we got up around 7 a.m. We had a later start than usual. We left the house around 9 a.m. We headed to the Saturday Farmer's Market downtown Hilo. We spent a few hours shopping. There was lots of Hawaiian crafts and produce being sold everywhere. It was a hot hot day. At around 12:15 p.m. we met up with Jason and his family along with Trisann and ate lunch at some Thai food restaurant. It was alright. After we got done eating, we left to the shopping mall. We spent about an hour there. Once we were all tired of walking around the mall, we went to the beach to go snorkling with Jason and his 2 children. The beach that we were at was shallow causing Nia and Mary to get some ... read more

This morning we got up to an early start. Our group left the house at 7:15 a.m. meeting Lehua at Richardson's Ocean's Park to print designs on our Kihei (robes for ceremonies). Using our imagination we created different patterns and sketched down our ideas onto our Kilei with the tools of nature's plants. After our Kihei's dried from the paint, we ate lunch and drove to the cultural school. At the school we took samples of water in one of the largest fish ponds. The fish pond was cold because majority of the water comes from the mountain. There is a low percentage of salt in the pond. The students of the Charter School blocked the ocean's water that comes into the ponds with a rock wall. Each pond has a gate to close out fish ... read more
