June 18-19 Yesterday I didn’t do much…motivation was lacking, but truthfully I was pretty excited about my book. I woke up and took my time in the morning. At 10:45 I walked down to the yoga studio for another hour and a half Power Yoga class with Dorian. Again I was the only one; again he kicked my butt. It is truly the most challenging yoga class I’ve taken. After yoga, I grabbed my Starbucks coffee and headed back up the hill to the house where I remained for the rest of the day. It was nice to read all day, and I was disappointed when I reached the end of my book Water for Elephants. I really enjoyed it. Oh well, back to Atlas Shrugged for the time being. Today I woke up at 7:30, ... read more

June 17 Something woke me extra early and when I glanced at my phone it read 5:45. Ideally, I should have gotten out of bed and gotten an early start to my day, but I feel asleep for another hour. At 6:45 I decided to make today my Pearl Harbor day. I had read that there was a flea market at Aloha Stadium on Wednesdays, so even if I got to Pearl Harbor later than the recommended time, at least I’d have somewhere to go to kill time. So, I ate my usual breakfast of a yogurt and graham cracker with peanut butter (healthy, right) got dressed and ready, checked out the bus schedule and was out the door by 7:30. From what I’ve read, you can’t bring anything onto the tour of the U.S.S. Arizona, ... read more

June 16 The birds chirping outside of my window wake me each morning. They make the strangest calls, mimicking each other back and forth, so by 7:30am I’m usually awake. I woke up excited to hike. I showered, packed, got dressed, and waited….nothing. Around 9am I texted Greg to see if we were still on, and at 10 he called to tell me that he’d have to go in the afternoon. Bummer.. With nothing else planned I decided to go on my own hike. The buses around here are plentiful and I found a route that runs not far from my house up to the top of nearby St. Louis Heights. Wow! The view on the road up the Heights was incredible. It felt a lot like driving the small roads up Camelback Mountain and getting ... read more

June 15-16 These past two days have been so uneventful, they really don’t even deserve a blog, but it’s my main source of communication with people, so I will blog anyway. I spent just about 24 hours in bed sleeping as much as I possibly could. I rented movies for entertainment including…”The Visitor”, “Yes Man”, & “Thank You for Smoking”. I appreciated the story, but “The Visitor” wasn’t as good as I expected. “Yes Man” was funny and definitely reminded me of what I’m doing here. And “Thank You…” was an entertaining flick too. I’m also reading Atlas Shrugged; right now I’m on page 70 out of like 1000. I’ve got a long way to go, but my sister Holly always said she loved it, so I’m going to give it a try. I tried reading ... read more

June 13 Usually, I wait until the very end of the day to type my blog because I am always hoping for a little more to write about. It’s 3pm here and I’m ready for sleep….I think today is over already. I was surprised that it was as easy as it was to get out of bed this morning. But by 8:10am I was out the door on my way down to Niketown for their Saturday morning group run. It’s about a 40 minute walk from my house to Niketown - there’s a giant golf course in between my house and the Waikiki strip so whichever way I go, I have to walk all the way around it. The sun was already super hot, and the skies were clear, and I was excited to have a ... read more

June 12 At 7am I woke up to movement upstairs. It was Bill’s voice - Yes! It was the first time I’d heard him since the day I got here, so I wasted no time. I ran upstairs to say hi. We talked for a few minutes and I even got him to remove the cockroach from the basement. On a side note I also mentioned to him these little dead bugs that had reappeared on the countertop downstairs. A few days earlier I had seen them, but the next day they were gone. It freaked me out, but sometimes I’d rather not even know the truth. But here they were again. So he told me that they die each night and then the geckos come in and eat them. Geckos - great. Honestly I don’t ... read more

June 10, 2009 12 hours of sleep last night. How about that! I woke up at 9am this morning with intentions to go for a run, but ended up watching "Australia" on my computer for an hour while lying in bed. Good choice of movie to bring, so far I've watched it for 2 days and still have another hour left to watch. Before I left home, I emailed a guy on Craigslist about a road bike he had for sale. Coincidentally, he is originally from Scottsdale and we're roughly the same age. He and his father run a masonry business here in Honolulu. I called him about the bike and he offered to take me to lunch today. So, instead of the run, I walked down to Safeway to meet up with Jason. It was ... read more

Thurs, June 11 ***blog down all day yesterday...you have no idea how happy it made me to see it up and working again today and with 9 comments!!!! Thank you! Here's yesterday's blog. I'll have a new one tonight too. What a good day. Sitting down at 9:30 pm, I realize that I did so much today. No wonder I’m tired. Christine says I need to be the “yes girl” like the movie. Say yes to everything. I do kind of feel like that. 5:30am I woke up and decided to hike Diamond Head Crater; what better time of day than sunrise. I walked to the bathroom and there, just outside the bathroom on the tile was…a roach - on his back. Ugh!!! Already! It’s only my third day here! It was still kicking, so I ... read more

June 8, 2009 Honolulu, Hawaii at 2am? Hmm..well as start this blog it’s 11 here in Honolulu and I’m not sure that sleep will come anytime soon. I’m not sad. It’s not that. I’m just…overwhelmed. I guess that it could’ve been predicted, but I sure didn’t see it coming. What a day. Back up to how this crazy idea began... I was hiking Camelback with Molly and Jim just two weeks ago when I reflected on my current situation and said, “Maybe I should look into spending the summer in Hawaii. I don’t have anything else to do.” And with that, I couldn’t get the thought out of my head. Yeah, why not go? My summer is as open and barren as the desert. If I don’t think of something I’ll be stuck to my couch ... read more
