July 6-7 Monday What is that? Clouds in the skies? Noooo! Well, I’ve been lucky, that’s for sure. I haven’t seen too many overcast or rainy days since I’ve arrived here; today just happened to be one of them. So, what do you do when it’s overcast in Hawaii? Shop, of course. Bill and I decided to head over to the Ala Moana Center to do some shopping for a while. I really love this mall! Come to think of it, I love all malls! But, this is truly a great place to spend the day shopping. And the sales! For a tourist destination, the sales are just incredible. I’m still thinking of heading back to the Lucky Brand store (all 75% off by the way) for a cute belt. Anyways, we spent a few hours ... read more

July 4-5 *2 pages of pictures again*there are some really pretty ones...don't forget to click 'next' Ah…7:45am, a little groggy, but water and two Excedrin (my best drinking buddy) have made it easy to stand up. It wasn’t the best night’s sleep for sure, but my Saturday morning run awaits me. Memories of the previous night quickly surface as I reach into my purse and pull out a giant handful of stuff I don’t remember ever putting in there: two crown royal pouches, two small American flags, and a necklace of some sort…ah…Chip. I love funny people! He must’ve pulled it off the ceiling and walls at the Nashville Bar. Very humorous. I tried catching a bus to get to Niketown by 9am, but I failed to check the holiday schedule and the bus wasn’t anywhere ... read more

July 3 This day is dedicated to my fabulous neighbor Heather who put me in touch with her friends from her old job. They have the best job in the whole world; they travel to the most amazing locations to facilitate business incentive travel. I’ve been hinting nonstop that I want to work there too…but apparently the economy isn’t doing too well right now and hiring isn’t happening? Maybe next year. Today I got a late start (which is happening more and more lately). I hopped onto the bus and headed to downtown Honolulu, which I really haven’t seen much of. It’s a really nice downtown, it just doesn’t have the hustle and bustle of most big city downtowns that I’ve seen. I arrived in time for the beginning of First Friday art walk, so I ... read more

June 30-July 2 Bill found me updating my blog early Tuesday morning and we decided to go on a run together. Everyone is faster than me, it sucks. We ran a 5.5 mile loop around Diamond Head which has some huge hills; not to mention that it was incredibly hot. But the ice cream we ate afterwards made keeping up with his faster stride worthwhile. Still sweating from the run, we decided to grab some beer and head to the beach. What a life! See how much fun not working can be? We walked down to San Souci Beach at the far east end of Waikiki; it’s small and popular with the locals, and we spent the next 3 hours or so laying out. Talk, talk, talk…all day long. This is what happens when you’re deprived ... read more

June 28-29 The blog site has been temperamental, to say the least. I’ve been trying to update for 2 days, but it was just now that it finally published. And so much has happened since my last entry! I’ve really had a great two days. It began early, early Sunday morning when I again woke up at 3am. Drinking…hash…can’t sleep…seeing the pattern? Anyways, I ventured upstairs (it’s where my computer is plugged into the modem) and came upon my roommate Mike sitting at his computer in the dining room. Head up, hand on mouse, totally asleep. It was hilarious! Definitely sleeping; the screen had even gone to sleep. I thought about taking a picture, but I don’t know him that well. So…I went back down to my room and laid in bed until I heard his ... read more

June 26-27 New day: no plans. Every few days I’ve woken up with the desire to branch out further from home to see some place new; today I decided to visit Kailua. It’s a small beach town, on the windward (east) side, probably only 30 minutes from here by car, but by bus, it’s over an hour. After over two weeks of feeling like a scrub, I chose today to straighten my hair, put on real clothes (and underwear, for those of you who read my last post), and cute sandals. The bus has become a less fun experience for me lately. It’s getting a little old. Today, I caught the transfer to Kailua from downtown Honolulu in front of the courthouse. The bus takes the Pali Highway over the Ko’olau mountain range straight to ... read more

June 24-25 Famous celebrity deaths seem to occur when I'm away from home. I was in Switzerland when JFK Jr died, in Mexico when Princess Diana died, and here today..the day that Farrah & M.J. died. I know, it happens all the time, but these have been memorable ones for me. Not the subject of my blog today at all....but it seemed a fitting title anyways. Not much…that’s what I’ve been up to. *Read a report today about the Most Expensive cities in the world. Only two U.S. cities made the top 15, I believe. Manhattan and Honolulu; it figures…trying to save $ and live cheaply this summer and I’m living in one of the most expensive cities in the world. That’s funny! Yesterday I woke up at 3am; must’ve been the drinking. I just couldn’t ... read more

June 23 Strange is probably the best word to describe my day - in a good way. I absolutely loved today. I just wish I had pictures to match my stories. Unfortunately, for the part of today that I wish I had it, my camera was in the car. Terri picked me up at 8am for our first hike together. I was excited; it was a hike I’d read about up in Makiki Heights off of Round Top Road. I believe this road becomes something called Tantalus. Whatever it is, the guide book says it’s “not to be missed” and I agree. The lookout on the top is even more spectacular than the one last week in St. Louis Heights. Anyways, we hiked for probably three hours on three gorgeous trails in the Manoa Valley: Ualaaka ... read more

June 21-22 The alarm on my phone buzzed under my pillow, but I was so tired it just became part of my dream. Till I realized there was a reason it was going off. (I haven’t set an alarm since I arrived here.) It was 5:45am and I had to get down to Kapiolani Park about a mile away to register for the 7am 10K - Aloha State Games. Hmmm…did I even want to do it? Not really anymore, but what the heck. It would be over in an hour and then I would take the rest of the day to relax. So I changed, put my new Hawaiian flower in my hair (trying to assimilate into my new life), and walked to the park. Again, it was another smallish road race. Just six miles…shouldn’t be ... read more

June 20 What a day! I’m so excited to write about it. I’m putting my favorite picture first…Me and Misty May-Treanor….read on to hear all about it! I woke up early enough to walk down to the farmers market at Kapiolani Community College. It’s about a mile up the road at the base of Diamond Head. Anyways, I had heard that you’ve got to get there early, and since the hours are from 7:30-11:00, I figured getting there at 7:30 is early enough; maybe not. Cars lined up waiting to find a parking space, and people were everywhere. Imagine the crowd mid Saturday at the Scottsdale Culinary Festival; that is exactly what it was like at 7:30am. I hear that Hawaiians are early risers, and from what I’ve seen, they really are. The market was cool, ... read more
